hi i was thinking of buying a Sony Omnidirectional Microphone for use to make songs with,would you recomend it? and do you know if it an just plug straight into the computer?
@edwarduzimaki Omnidirectional microphones are NOT recommending for home audio use as to they are sensitive to all sorts of background noise. They also tend to be very expensive in a recording mic.
With and decent interface you should be able to plug a mic into your computer, but what I would recommend is a usb powered condensor or a Shure SM58 USB package. This should simplify your recording process and still give you a decent level of quality. PM me if you have more ?'s
@InstantReverbPro well when i asked the question it was for the sony one but im now looking around more and saw he logitec standard desktop mic and apperantly it works well for music i heard some audio samples of it and it was really clear so i think im gonna buy that and get a pop filter. but the main reason why im replying is to ask i2 questions. 1. is it worth it to buy a low quality mic? and 2. what kind of recording programs can be used on pc to put audio files together?
@edwarduzimaki No, it's really not worth it to buy a low quality mic, especially when there are inexpensive solutions to be had that are priced the same.
As for the software(it's called a DAW by the way) PreSonus ships a copy of Cubase with their interfaces. For simplicity and price, get audacity. I'm pretty sure it's free.

There is some phase cancellation at 90 degrees and it's pretty obvous that it picks up the most highs directly on axis.

@M55ikael that's due to his head-worn mic going in and out of phase with the omni in the room.

a ha! i thought there was an uptown mic in there. this whole video is way too pro to be using a $150 mic or something like that.

Sounds like your intro is on a lav you're wearing.

@TyFord Hi Ty! Yes, the demonstrator is wearing a headworn mic. Do you think it would help if there were captions on-screen to distinguish?

@dvestore
prolly. :) Maybe next time.

This is a really good review. Makes complete sense.
What kind of mic are you using. Is it a Schoeps model?
It sounds really good when you are talking, and you are nowhere near a mic.

@ytb917 The presenter is wearing a headworn mic at first, then switches to the omni, which is a Sennheiser 8020.
