I know what Walt said- that" Disneyland will never be completed", but I agree with other posts here- it's a bit too much for the Haunted Mansion. The last addition of "Madam Leota's grave" featuring a moving sculptured face, was great- It really added to eerie/sinister atmosphere of the queue area. But I think they've gone too far here!
Did they make these changes to the original Disneyland Haunted Mansion as well? Because you'd assume of all versions of this famous ride to modify first, it would be THAT one!
Nevertheless, why oh WHY did I have to visit WDW two years ago?!
@disneylover101: You're not supposed to really know the ghosts are jolly until after Madame Leota's seance allows them to cross over. Despite some dark humor in the stretching room, you really aren't sure what their attitude is until after that. To be honest, they seem kind of ticked off until then. After the seance, only the bride is a negative personality. That's the concept of the ride - finding out that the ghosts are jolly after initially worrying that they're hostile. The new queue underc
Uhg. To me..the Haunted Mansion is supposed to be different from the rest of the park. You're supposed to step through the gates and feel like you're not even in the same park anymore. It's still corny, but a different kind of corny. A spooky corny. This is just corny corny. Makes me gag.
I'm really looking foward to this when I return to the Magic Kingdom - just not when it first comes out, because that would be a crazy time, everyone trying to go to see at once. It seems so cool and really seems to fit the Haunted Mansion's cooky, silly environment. Its not meant to be full out creepy or scary. To quote @CutesyBubblez from earlier "Hello, it's 999 "Happy Haunts", not spooky haunts." Thanks CutesyBubblez!
I have to say, I like this idea, regardelss of it being "not apart of the eerie Haunted Mansion" atmpsphere. Can't wait to see it. Oh, and for those saying you don't like it at all:
At least it's better than standing in a 2 hour line with nothing to do while you wait to get in the mansion.
@markbundles2 I completely agree. There are some things that could be toned down and/or look a bit tacky regarding the atmosphere, and I think the atmosphere was good, but I think it's an exciting bunch of new features anyway. Disneyland is supposed to be a fun place for children, ultimately, and this ensures maintained entertainment (at least more than there was before). And if people want the queue where nothing happens, there's still one there :P
These are great ideas one and all, a job well done - BUT not to be forced on people as part of the queue. To many of us it does ruin the experience, and thats just speaking the truth. If there was a way, a post show or or play area that had these elements, I would be applauding WDIs efforts. I think these guys are well meaning, talented, and doing what we would all like to do.
Is :Leota's tombstone back though? When I went for the first time back in 2006/07 (it was right at new years) that was the only thing that got me through the line, just staring at Leota. XD
When I was a kid, I hated standing in those long lines. I was stuck there with nothing to do and it felt like I was missing out on the magical experience. Now, kids won't feel that way. As for you adults with the negative comments, maybe you're too old and crabby to be visiting the Magic Kingdom. Maybe you should be going to an amusement park that caters to more adults. That would make the lines shorter and everyone would have a better experience.
What about Madame Leota's tombstone? I think, in my personal opinion, that they have done a great work, but this new queue can make the Haunted Mansion looks more comic than spooky...
A significant motivator for new queues is to adapt to the new shorter attention span of amusement parks guests. Disney is investing a great deal of money on making your queuing experience enjoyable along with your ride experience. Unfortunately WWoHP actually made a dent in Walt Disney World's attendance last year (though Disneyland made up for it). Disney is just doing what Disney does best and upping their game.
personally I think this is a perfect example of one of the best thing Disney does. They make the actual wait for their rides fun! Its not like an ordinary amusement park where your just standing in a roped off area for 45+ minutes, they actually make it interesting and fun to be in or just even look at!
Not only was it an inspired idea, but how well...professionally it was executed is amazing! Great stuff. After all these years to actually give a small but exciting face-lift to a classic Disney ride is a win-win.
These posts that are negative say nothing about this project...
This is reminding me of the history of the walkthrough Sleeping Beauty's Castle. So many people would stop for too long and look at everything, making the line back up. It does seem like there's a lot of open space in there... I'm sure the CMs will work out a system to keep people moving, or at least the ones who actually want to see 999 ghosts. This does seem really cool and I'll hope for the best.
Although I'm sure this is meant with good intentions, it seems incredibly sad to me that people are so impatient and easily bored that they need constant mental stimulation at Disney World. The queue games at space mountain slow everything down a ridiculous amount, and I don't think these renovations really mesh with the feel of the haunted mansion. The only place this kind of worked was for the pooh ride because the ride is made for little kids, who enjoy said constant mental stimulation.
i agree with u, im a huge fan of the haunted mansion, an i dont like the new stuff they did to it, the itneractive stuff, its gonna slow down the line and it looked better before they had all that new stuff in, before the new stuff was in the line moved fast and it was just easier. it doesnt fit with the whole theme either.
@DesslerAlmeidaGirl totally agree! but actually a barely ever see people doing the game in space mountain anymore people always just walk right by it. and not only did this ruin the look and feel of the mansion but it didnt even do anything for the switch backs in the queue. Poohs queue looks awful too but at least it actually is entertaining for that age group!
I like the idea of an immersive, interactive queue, but from watching the video of this one, I'm not too crazy about it right off the bat. But I guess I'd have to actually visit the attraction to really know what I think.
Anyway, people have to realize that things are gonna change. They always have been. Jack Sparrow invaded POTC and Judi Dench kicked Jeremy Irons out of Spaceship Earth? Boo-hoo. There are more important things to worry about.
wow - lots of negative comments ... I really like it. They didn't touch the classic show inside ... and those of you with kids would understand staying occupied in the queue is a good thing when the lines are long. Greatest ride of all time. (this or Pirates, can't decide)
What was it that Walt said, Disney would take care of the outside, and the ghosts could take care of the inside. basically, the outside wouldn't be haunted, only the inside. Of course, who cares what Walt said....
I don't think it's a good fit for the Haunted Mansion. Interactive gags and noises don't go along with the eerie atmosphere that a spooky old mansion should have. This type of queue worked for the Pooh ride, but here it detracts from the experience.
@Fiyeroni= The Captains tomb leaks water, probably to indicate his watery demise. I give it a year, before they shut the water off, just like how the cabin at Frontierland Disneyland doesn't burn anymore.
@Fiyeroni Haunted mansion has nothing really eerie about it, its always been about fun. Yea, if you are scared of ghosts, but the haunted mansion always had plenty of gags in it.
@Shimey013 Agreed, but that was usually reserved for the interior of the Mansion. This new queue breaks up the mystique and atmosphere of the Mansion -- made you anticipate what was coming up next. Leave the silly gags where they belong, after the ghosts materialize.
@Shimey013 imagineers who designd the ride a long time ago plannd the first half of the ride to b more spooky and eerie, and the other half to b a lil more lighthearted with few gags. so i think this interactive queue, while fun, does kinda take away from the spookiness thats left.
@Fiyeroni I disagree. The Haunted Mansion was never intended to be eerie or spooky. It's designed as a fun type of spooky. The original tombstones in the previous graveyard scene tell us that.
