@Rocky4306 i had this problem two months ago, download the synaptics driver. Not only will you have pinch to zoom but also two finger scrolling and other awesome stuff. Check your hardware and then go on its website to download the driver dont do it from dell.

i just bought the 1555(early xmas present)so i recieved it and i have not encountered any problems...i can play most top of the most demanding games on the market with no problems and i dont use the backlit keyboard because of the amount of battery it drinks!!!! i have it in windows 7 and is fast and my only problem is the hdmi. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH IT, is it to plug into an hdmi monitor or tv screen or what???? btw u spelt idiot wrong and plz reply!!!

I have the same computer bought in late Oct w Windows 7 OS. I have an audio problem. About every 5 mins, a quick buzzing sound occurs for about 1-2 seconds then everything is fine. This happens with audios and videos. Did you have any problems like this? Also, it won't awake from sleep mode.
the backlit light key.. which is a optional addon it should be on the F6 key. if its not there it means the dell studio that you bought did not come with it installed.

yeah...depends on what games you are playing..like fallout 3, you can play it with high details if u disable the anti-aliasing, it can be smooth and fast

Yeah it's great :) I'm using it now and got used to it. It works realy fast and I have had loads of updates since yesturday when I brought it. It has a realy good dell webcam central programme where you can edit your voice sound and make it realy deep and stressed e.c.t. lol and it has a realy high battery lifte of around 3 hours when on high performance but I use it on balanced and it's the same as max but the battery is longer.
So it looks like this laptop isn't that great..... damn..... i just bought on off best buy last night... oh well i pretty sure its the best i could of got for my money
Does anyone know if this laptop will support a 12.5mm high hard drive instead of the 9mm high one it comes with? I'm thinking of throwing a 1tb or 750gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue in mine, but I'm not sure if the form factor will fit. Either that or the Scorpio Black, I'm not sure which one i want yet.

First you need an AP to connect to, Acces Point. If you don't have one you can't go wireless.
At second, you need to have a wifi card ( I m sure you have it ;P)
and you have to go to the taskbar and right-click the 2 computerscreens with a red cross (windows vista he?) and connect to network, it should search for AP's and just connect to yours ;P

actually from what i know when downgrading your studio from vista to xp.. dell do have all the support drivers on there website so you can download...
Its Not Bad batterys dont last for ever so if you keep it unpluged everytime you use it your last time of your battery wont be 5.5 hours to 7 hours. My dad voyages alot and on the plane he uses his computer and he said he had to replace the battery twice. lol :P
well now upgrading from the standard isnt that much.. i would personally upgrade just so the fact that i would have that choice of adjustment to my personal needs.
i have the full hd screen and yes if you lower the resolution everything will turn crap. What i did to make things readable was to increase the windows dpi and installed a plugin for firefox so that is always zooms in 120%. The screen is really nice though, i think its worth it. But on the other hand, ive never seen a 720p so I couldnt really tell the difference.

I'm asking because I bought dell 1555 and I think that I don't have build-in bluetooth. I thought that my friends who were delivering to me notebook ordered bluetooth, but clearly not... or I dont know how to find it.
check on ur invoice if the blue tooth is there or not (generally it comes with the backage)
then if you want to turn on ur bluetooth you press (f3) button where the wireless button is.. then on the botton left hand corner on ur screen would pop up a lil window weather you have bluetooth and wireless on or off.
When I ordered my 1555 (trough phone after checking the internet specs) I had to manually select Bluetooth to be included on the internet site, and also the sales rep asked me if I wanted bluetooth or not. There's a fat chance that you don't have it if you didn't specifically order it depending on what country you live in. (Holland here, and it wasn't standard for my 1555)
I would be very surprised since all big gamers with rigs use much more than 4gb ram hence 64bit system, I would only imagine really old games not working but to be fair im just guessing

Show the Multitouch-Functions of the Tochpad, plug in a usb stick (even if its small enough, or would be better if it is) and let the disk get out of the laptop, show us some viewing angles, etc.
actually that is very common question.. as i have a 9 cell battery it does lift the laptop up about 20degrees. which give it that extra bit of air ventilation underneath. i mean i wouldnt say it get hot.. but it does get slightly above body temp.. so ur looking at 39'C

Best review of the refresh Studio 15 (1555) I've seen yet. Just bought one. Was worried about the speakers, battery life, display. But it seems those issues were addressed in this latest model. i have to agree with you on the DVD drive loading.. i have had times when i was installing RA2 it stuffed up half way due to reading issue. but it was fine afterwards. but i have to admit the dvd does load slow.. but i dont use the drive as often becoz most of the things gets transfered.
I just wonder WHY it's so slow. Other Dell notebooks I've read about read ok as well as other brands. I wonder if a FW upgrade can fix this or if it's a HW limitation. That was one of concerns too. The sound quality. My old HP laptop had Altec Lansing speakers and they sounded great. I just wanted to have a good sounding notebook.

What's about the fan of the book? Is it loud and/or comes it up often or is it quiet? I had a Dell Vostro and the fan turned on every 3-4 minutes. That was very annoying.

actually during my break i have tryed quite a few games on this laptop..
but in a general overview about gaming performance
I play COD4 MP on this laptop.. runs very smooth.. i would say its about 30-40fps
i also play The Last remnant on this laptop too.
if you dont know wat it is its a square neix game its quite graphics tolerate. it generally runs smooth but sometimes it does have the slight lag due to gaphics shading etc.. i do put it on max settings with shadow setting on mid
tbh i dont think i know... personally i find it very comfortable having low brigteness setting but that just me because there is generally enough lighting in the surrounding.
from what i have heard on the xps series there is quite alot of people saying they have heat distrubtion problems with the laptop. tho u do get a sleek design but your graphics card isnt as powerful as the studio 1555
needless to say both are pretty decent laptops but in terms of price range i wouldnt pay that extra buck for that better look
hey.. i kept on changing mine because when i got it they were still phasing out the 1537 and 1555 was coming out.. it took me about an hr or so til i finialised my order and it said it was 5-7 working days. like usual.. but i got mine in 4 working days. because i asked the outsource courier for dell deliver it the day after they received it.
in terms of the topo black its pretty gd but i do have to say fingerprints do get on it quite often. but then agian i baby it so i clean often too
hey i got ma studio 1555 last 10 days ago....and just yesterday....i installed tom clancy's HAWX it runs smooth, but after a couple of mintues of play it freezes and the screen turns black and then changes colors like the vista aurora screen saver only this time its white and purple, but mostly white. i tried other games like far cry 2, rainbow six vegas 2 and call of duty same problem. have you got that problem?

most games atm runs decently on this laptop
atm i got street fighter 4 and cod 4 which i run on this laptop alot and it runs 50-60 fps.
but note that cod 4 if u do enter into big MP maps with alot of effects happening u do see it taking a toll

ive had it since march and it only crashed counted 4-5 times i cant remember..
but i usually leave it on hibernate and doesnt switch off.. i remmber i left it like that without switching off for a month

Is there any indicators lights? for example for wifi or hdd usage etc. ?
I read on the Internet that "Backlit lights" version of notebook has it and "no Backlit lights" doesnt.

Not true... the studio 1555 does no have a HDD and wifi light.
tho wifi will desplay on ur screen if its turned on or off. the only lights u would see on the laptop would be.
Backlit lights (if u ordered it)
The power cable light (duos as a power indicator if your laptop is on red)
Your Power button
and your battery indicator light (underneath the laptop)

Show the Multitouch-Functions of the Tochpad, plug in a usb stick (even if its small enough, or would be better if it is) and let the disk get out of the laptop, show us some viewing angles, etc.

actually that is very common question.. as i have a 9 cell battery it does lift the laptop up about 20degrees. which give it that extra bit of air ventilation underneath. i mean i wouldnt say it get hot.. but it does get slightly above body temp.. so ur looking at 39'C

i had a play with it when i got it..
but i uninstalled it i think after a day... i look like a drunk when i wake up with my hair all messed up. so when i turn on my laptop i seriously dont need to remind myself i look like that.

Best review of the refresh Studio 15 (1555) I've seen yet. Just bought one. Was worried about the speakers, battery life, display. But it seems those issues were addressed in this latest model. BTW how good is the slot loading DVD drive and is it as fast as most DVD drives? I've read it reads very slow. Can you comment? Thanks!

i have to agree with you on the DVD drive loading.. i have had times when i was installing RA2 it stuffed up half way due to reading issue. but it was fine afterwards. but i have to admit the dvd does load slow.. but i dont use the drive as often becoz most of the things gets transfered.

I just wonder WHY it's so slow. Other Dell notebooks I've read about read ok as well as other brands. I wonder if a FW upgrade can fix this or if it's a HW limitation. I also wonder WHY they removed the IR port. I actually bought a remote for the 1555 after being told by a Dell rep it would work. Then after seeing your vid. Called Dell and the tech looked part by part to confirm. I'm returning it because it DOESN'T work. Also how good is the WiFi card? How far can signal go with the 1555?THANKS!

well i did park outisde my friends house once and stole his wireless while he went out.. that was a gd 20m away straight line distance.
yea if u didnt look at my last video i did mention there is no IR port there. shouldnt never listen to dell sales ppl they will say yes to anything just to get a sale out of u

Yes after watching your vid. I called Dell tech support. Only then did they confirm NO IR PORT! I'm returning it. Sad. I really wanted a remote. lol. How good is the battery life on it using the 6- cell battery? Like using WiFi on battery power. Can I atleast get 2 hrs. THANKS AGAIN

moderate use with net via wifi with a 6 cell should last u for 3hrs-3.5hrs tops on battery save mode but general most 6sell would last u 2hrs easy.

I don't think my 1555 will have a power save mode as I opted for the XP Pro install. I loathe Vista! So what would you suggest for settings that use alot of power since I won't be running Vista. Thanks again for the reply!

i think by turnning ur sound to the max see if u see if the sound quality has some scratches. not sure how to describe it. but i can tell..
in comparison to the old studio its very good

That was one of concerns too. The sound quality. My old HP laptop had Altec Lansing speakers and they sounded great. I just wanted to have a good sounding notebook.

Nice review an nice notebook. I've never seen one with an extra contrast-controller.
What's about the fan of the book? Is it loud and/or comes it up often or is it quiet? I had a Dell Vostro and the fan turned on every 3-4 minutes. That was very annoying.

actually during my break i have tryed quite a few games on this laptop..
but in a general overview about gaming performance
I play COD4 MP on this laptop.. runs very smooth.. i would say its about 30-40fps
i also play The Last remnant on this laptop too.
if you dont know wat it is its a square neix game its quite graphics tolerate. it generally runs smooth but sometimes it does have the slight lag due to gaphics shading etc.. i do put it on max settings with shadow setting on mid

tbh i dont think i know... personally i find it very comfortable having low brigteness setting but that just me because there is generally enough lighting in the surrounding.

from what i have heard on the xps series there is quite alot of people saying they have heat distrubtion problems with the laptop. tho u do get a sleek design but your graphics card isnt as powerful as the studio 1555
needless to say both are pretty decent laptops but in terms of price range i wouldnt pay that extra buck for that better look
so +1 to studio 1555

chances are u have to get a adpter for IR probably a express 34mm or a usb.. but dont take my word for the usb coz i dont no if there is any..

hey.. i kept on changing mine because when i got it they were still phasing out the 1537 and 1555 was coming out.. it took me about an hr or so til i finialised my order and it said it was 5-7 working days. like usual.. but i got mine in 4 working days. because i asked the outsource courier for dell deliver it the day after they received it.
in terms of the topo black its pretty gd but i do have to say fingerprints do get on it quite often. but then agian i baby it so i clean often too

hey i got ma studio 1555 last 10 days ago....and just yesterday....i installed tom clancy's HAWX it runs smooth, but after a couple of mintues of play it freezes and the screen turns black and then changes colors like the vista aurora screen saver only this time its white and purple, but mostly white. i tried other games like far cry 2, rainbow six vegas 2 and call of duty same problem. have you got that problem?
