  • @swaay1000 130 gallon tank would be a GOOD size but I would go by the rule of thumb 10 gallons per inch of turtle shell so I would get a 160 gallon . But 130 is fine

  • hey is a 130 gallon pond good for three turtles 4 inches 5 and 6 inches

  • when you start a turtle tank... does that turtle tnk need to go through a nitrogen cycle ?

  • i'd put up more water maybe an inch above the right part of that drift wood

  • i like the second pond 10x better!

  • ive had my drift wood for years that i got from the river and never had a problem so im not sure why you said it will cause lots of problems first off i used a sand blaster with chipped mapple instead of sand and then soaked it for a week doing 20 percent water changes every day thats what i do with all my wood everytime get it btw i also sell it to pet stores thats my job anyways nice vid ima subscribe

  • @scalecrawler08 Ah, you see this was never mentioned. Many just take it and toss it in. The bacteria, and organisms on the wood itself from that point can cause damage to a healthy tank. You clearly know what you are doing =D.

  • cool tank, just picked up a 55 myself

  • how much did your texas map cost you

  • @002andyme I do not keep texas maps. But generally they should be about 30 usd

  • i had drift wood in my tank but it made the water brown, but i liked the tank alot better with it in. How can i stop this from happening?

  • @RockUrSox88 Thats what drift wood does. It leaches tannins. The only real thing you can do is continue to soak it in water. Depending on the wood and the size of it it can take months or years to completely leach out. You can also boil it, remove the water, and reboil it to help get the tannins out faster.

  • @perpetualwandrer o thanks man ima boil it now

  • @RockUrSox88 THE BEST WAY TO GET GRIFT WOOD IS GO TO THE RAPIDS AT YOUR LOCAL RIVER IT WONT TURN YOUR TANK BROWN

  • @scalecrawler08 Caps are not necessary, and that way can lead to some serious issues in your tank. Not the smartest way to get drift wood at all.

  • mine doesnt sink either but I put a rock on it and it sinks. The rock makes it look so natural!

  • @RoboHamsterify Yours does look good. Just remember, Grape Vine is a soft wood, so it rots faster than say oak or mopani. It will develop a jelly like coating around it. It wont harm the water, or turtles, its just the saps leaching out.

  • I have a Ouachita map turtle, they make good map turtles as pets. :)

  • where did you get those fake plants?

  • @mariogamecrazy A pet store

  • Yah I saw you posted a video I will watch it if you get a chance make a video of your bearded dragon

  • my Pearl River Map Turtle is shy to ^_^

  • Yes I love the drift wood really brings the tank alive!! Wow more turtles huh? Lol yah it was alot for a Mexican mud and the turtle was aggressive towards the loggerhead musk they had i'n there they were $99 each nice can't wait to see a video you gonna do an unpacking one? Lol

  • @emostars71 I will if I am able to get one

  • nice, good luck on the nesting area.

  • @snapperzrule Right, I have had good luck mainly with fish. They don't touch em most of the time.

  • Nice driftwood, I wouldn't put expensive fish in there because turtles eat everything and anything they can

  • has waffle layed eggs yet, because i have a sure idea for u, make a nesting box, more like tank, if u have an extra 20gallon long or even 10 ,maybe too small, put whatever substrate ur using for the other thing u had in it, and keep it warm, leave waffle in there for about 2 to 4 hours a day and let her dig around and find a nice spot to lay her eggs, remember just the dirt, etc. and the tank, if u want to get real fancy add a small area for swimming with plexi ,just an idea use it if u want to:)

  • @snapperzrule Yes I could do that. I am thinking however, to build a 2x3 nesting/basking area next year attached to a 300 gal or 150 gal stock tank. I will let her do as she pleases right now. ITs her first season to lay, so I dont expect much to be honest. I also think the nesting area I have now is too small anyhow

  • Nice!!!! I love the piece of work looks really good and cant wait to see the pearl river map a bit more since he seemed shy...the ponds look good what are you keeping out there? I thought of you actaully at this mall I go to at the pet shop they have a mexican musk turtle for $199

  • @emostars71 THats a lot for a mexican musk imo. Ill do another video of the black knob and the pearl river tomorrow when the black knob comes . Thanks I love the tank

  • yeah but when theyre little they grow fast, almost triple its size in a year, nice.

  • where do you get mossballs?

  • @dumaszproductions I found mine at pet co

  • i no you have onwned many of these breeds of turtles and i cant decide which i am going to buy so maybe you can give a little imput. its between a common musk, mississippi map, a reeves and a southern painted i have done research on all too. alos i want a smaller species as you can see so if you have another idea of a smaller one let me no. Thanks a lot as always great new vid

  • @jkl1041 I now love muds, musks, and maps a lot. Maps are a gamble, males are small, females are huge. You can def look into stinkpots (common musk), 3 stripe mud turtles. Razor backs tend to get a little larger, but still stay small. I am not a fan of painteds, but southerns are smallish. Reeves are neat, but I hear they are known to reach 8-11 inches.

  • @perpetualwandrer thank you thank you ill take painteds out and reeves turtle too but i like them so im still debating im liking stinpots more and more also what are your most recommended map turtles along with mud and musks thanks and last one i promise

  • @jkl1041 Feel free to ask as much as you want. I love to help, its why I make videos.

For maps, you have two choices: Broad headed and narrow headed. Broad headed, means their heads become very wide when adults. These include Alabama, pear river, and Barbour's map turtles. Narrow headed include everything else, Ouchita, false, mississippi, Northern and southern Black knobs, yellow botched, Cagles, and a few others. Some do not like the broad heads.

  • @jkl1041 Now for me I love most of the species with great color. Texas maps, Barbour's, alabama, Yellow Blotched, and pearl rivers. Sometimes MIssissippis can have great color too. it all depends. Now for musks/muds, I love all north american species. I also love Red Cheek muds, south american species, and Mexican Giant musks. Red cheeks might be a good idea for you. They do stay small and are great

  • @perpetualwandrer i will look more into red cheeks and i will let you know what i eventually decide on thanks a lot

  • @jkl1041 Sounds great. I love mine dearly

  • @perpetualwandrer ok i have done research and i couldnt find anything on red cheek muds. ive googled them and even you tubed them and i barely can find info on them so ive come to you lol can you give me any info you have on red cheeks messege me them or whatever thanks a lot!

  • thanks man, so how big is the pearl river map?

  • @snapperzrule A little larger than a quarter

  • Wow you have the most amazing enclosures i have ever seen for turtles i hope to get mine in homes like that one day!

  • @ReptoMan12 Thank you, all I can say is be creative and patient. It pays off
