@hedonism13 I'd say at the beggining half it was made to seem well to quote the film "better than sex", however later in the film when you see the after effects, the baby being un cared for, tommy's breakdown and loss of his property, it becomes bad. only glamorized in the sense that it sets the mood for the film and is really the central subject matter of the film.

It takes you on a journey, yes, from the start where he explains why he didn't choose life to the end where he tells the viewer explicitly to choose life. But even at the beginning you can see that there lifestyle is a lifestyle that you want to avoid, and that the reason they live like that is because they're on heroin.

Probably the closest thing to encouraging drugs in the film is the fact that the sociopath is the only one not shooting up.
