@giova942 you may be the only person in the world who thinks that. this guitar sounds incredible through the pick up, the sound is so full yet the highs and lows arent diminished
@TheOriginalZombie1 You have to set the pickup right. The pots are very sensitive. You have to roll back the lows and highs a good amount and move up from there. You cant place the lows and highs all at 12 O'clock and judge from there. The pickups do pick up the top woods very well, hints why the pickup is so sensitive. For a sound guy, this is a great pickup because more of a frequency is better than less of a frequency. Adding a frequency when its not there, causes distortion.
yes a microphone will always be better but...in a full band set up, its not going to happen with out feedback. Fishman eliminated this with the Aura pedal. L.R. Baggs Anthem did it by cutting all the lows out of the internal pickup and using the UST side of the pickup to compensate. Gibson and Martin now use the Fishman Aura or Anthem in their newer line ;)
Ok, now that i have had this guitar for a year. The guitar has aged a little and it sounding even better. I use Elixir Nano Bronze and its pretty balanced. As far as the pickup, its great actually now that i figured it out ha. The tone control is VERY sensitive! Setting it just right: its sound better than many Fishman and on par with the L.R Element. Live i use my laptop effect to give it body with a 64' Neumann 147 impulse...using Reverberate LE impulse generator.
@randommiker crazy how Gibson puts those not so decent Fishman pickups in their guitar and this guitar blows it away! Goes to show how many people buy in ignorance to a head stock label.
I just use the modern console preamp but I recognized it doesn't do justice to the tone of this guitar at all, so I combine the two methods direct and with mic to get the sound. A decent tube preamp could do the job, too. I didn't have a gig with this guitar so far - so maybe your solution could be the better options. Please report me your results ;)
This guitar sounds incredible good right out of the box. The pickup is good and I got very satisfying results with it thru a Pod X3 as Preamp /fx-Unit (via mic and /or direct), Solid bottom & solid top promise a sound development for years. It is a beauty in Vinatge Cherry Burst. Go get it.
@PantheonLM What do you use on the X3 with this? Even though the pickups get decent with bass and treble down, its still does not do justice for the tones of this guitar. I am replacing it with a LR Baggs Anthem. ;) I heard that with a great preamp, the Shadow NanoFlex sounds better. Not sure if the X3 counts as the better preamp. You think so?
Also, the condenser in this video does suck. So..i will do a video demo myself with a MXL V67 Magami for a more natural tone picked up. These guitars really should be priced higher than posted. The top is solid as advertised and the back is solid also. the sides are not but hey....the original Texan was laminated all the way around so..it really shows thats really more into the build
I have one of these in the Cherry Burst. Very nice axe! At first i really did not like the pickups but then realized that the pickup controls are different than others. You have to set Bass and Treble all the way down to "0" then start adding measures from there. "0" position is neutral unlike it being 12 o'clock or "5" on others preamps. After that i noticed this thing really cuts through the mix live and does not kill most of the natural tone.
what is it plugged in?

@randommiker Epiphone is owned by Gibson....so I find it amazing how they would put a better pickup in the Epiphone.
