I found a list of bands I found on myspace 5 years ago and I've been looking through them and I am so glad. this band is freaking awesome! go past me!
Considering this was uploaded in 2007, and the A-Punk video was made in 2007 and released in 2008, I think Garth Jennings took inspiration from this, and not the other way around.
Run, run, run to your grave Cause they're coming for your brain but They will leave with your head And they've got money and science And they will leave you for dead Sleep, sleep, sleep in your tomb Don't bury your body with your diamonds Cause you know they'll dig up your grave And don't hold on to your riches Cause when you die, you're a slave
This, to this day, is still one of my favorite music videos ever. It just looks like so much fun. I really hope they sort out their issues and continue making such amazing music.
Where did the Mae Shi go? No new material on the internets for many generations, forgotten heroes. Without a doubt one of my favorite bands of all time.
that little white insturement that one guy is playing at the end is really alot of fun to mess with. hahah just discovered these guys today and played that freaken thing 2 day. :]
this entire album tickles on the idea of religion, and really supports you to find your own religion (whatever that would mean to you), and living YOUR life rather than living someone elses (life/religion).
I guess I didn't see any facetiousness in it. I mean, that's a really good interpretation, so I like YOUR reading of the song. But I'm still not convinced. The title, in context of the other lyrics, just makes me think of the way that some fundamentalist Christians think its okay to consume, consume, consume without regard for preservation, because the earth is only 6,000 years old. blah blah blah. Anyway. Sorry about the long, boring comment. I've said my piece.
Mommieslittleboy- you make a good point, and i completely agree with you in regard to the "fund Christians" ideas of consumption. its so true and a sadly laughable truth. However with this song, specifically with the lyrics "tear, burn, soil the flesh
god will do the rest" demonstrates that they are subtley mocking religion. I think the entire album is a nice stab at relgion.
The song is incredibly catchy, but the lyrics seem pretty passive aggressive. There's not a shred of doubt behind this kids, which is admirable, but makes me uncomfortable. It's like, they're having a good time, confidently telling everyone that if you're not Christian then you're stupid and misled. I bet Jesus would be a bit more considerate than that.
bslack07- this song and the entire album is a big shot at religion. On another note, before i even heard of the band i randomly sat next these guys on a flight from london standsted to dublin last year while they were touring Europe, and they didn't strike me as religious at all, just really laid back well intelligent people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Religious people are very intelligent- humans have evolved to be more succesful (i.e. procreate more) when they are predisposed to believe in religion.
Religion has nothing at all to do with intelligence.
There are plenty of good arguments for and against the existence of god in both science and philosophy. Einstein believed in god, and I'm sure your not claiming that Einstein was stupid.
So until you get some evidence for what you saying i suggest you stfu.
youll find that any study of the religiosity of prisoners in american prisons will show that they are overwhelmingly religious, and were so before they were incarcerated. it seems athiests have the sense and the morality to commit fewer crimes
Errrr Wrong.. A year before his death Einstein wrote (full letter at link):
The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still purely primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
while this is hardly the place for a religous discussion ill just point out 3 things
1. einstein, unfortunately for his reputation, used the word god in reference to his reverence for the natural universe, not yahweh god of the jews and christians
2. youll find in any study that links intelligence to religiosity generally the smarter people are the less likely they are to believe in god.
3. there are no arguments for god in science, the only thing the religious stand on is faith.
Ok so its 1am and I am drunk, too drunk to ever possibly care about some youtube comment, however this is the only time I am ever going to bother replying to one.
I really can't possibly be bothered to explain my point of view, possibly I explained myself badly in the first place. So I guess you'll just have to congratulate yourself on proving me wrong and I can drift back into a state of blissful apathy.
@CrunkRockSteadyEvan Have you ever read any books by Lee Strobel? Because you seriously should. (I'm not here to argue, all I ask is that you read some of his works with an unbiased mind. I've done the same with both ends of the spectrum-I wouldn't ask you to do anything I haven't.)

I randomly sat next to Jeff Bryon from the band, on a flight from London to Dublin, while they were touring Europe in May of 2008. Really awesome guy, and glad to hear the band is doing well. This song rocks!
Hillyh is a concept album in which they say what is God gets pissed off and deciedes to Go old testament on us humans. I really have no idea how that can be seen as christian in any way. Besides Young Marks. which is an absolutely Brilliant song is like an athiest anthem. Apart from the organised chaos another thing that sets the mae shi apart are thier amazing lyrics.
They're so atheist- they totally talk about how god exists and then how he get's mad. It's so intelligent to say that, like oh my god. I'm atheist because I think god hates people, too.
Thinking that god doesn't exist doesn't make you atheist at all. You have to think he exists and that he hates people, totally. Thats how shit works.
I was being sarcastic, in case you couldn't tell. I was insidiously making fun of Kaulayush for originally saying that they were atheist because they talked about how god was angered. Obviously that's a retarded statement, so I tried to use satire to say he was stupid. Sorry for the confusion.
What isn't satire? What I said? Yes it was. It was a literary tone used to make fun of a human weakness-in this case, stupidity, or the inability to accurately understand meanings of words or songs, or concepts of religion and God.
Hey, they could be Buddhist, "The Mai Shi" enough said. After all Buddhism is a religion with very little flaws, and of course good morals. I wouldn't be surprised if some white people would join, after all there's this Hollywood movie actor that did. I'm done wasting your people's time, lol.
The entire album is simply its more of a sneer at religion in all its forms. Like, "Young Marks" scorns people who use religion to justify war. "Pwnd" satirizes the vengeful god of the old testament. Lamb And The Lion", "Leech And Locust", "Book Of Numbers" -- all biblical references. How i do love Hlllyh, It's full with beautiful sarcasm.

And emotion is a simple test to the synapse
Don't let it fool you into thinking that you've got brains
And the more you feel, the more you will take with you
So cut the flesh and let your blood flow to the drain
You've got to
Tear, burn, soil the flesh
God will do the rest
Scream, cry, pray, confess
God will do the rest
