  • this is good stuff. Kind of reminds me of Matt and Kim if they rocked harder

  • did I just see members of HEALTH singing in the mix there?

  • If Math The Band and Fang Island had sex while The Flaming Lips videotaped it, this would be produced.

  • @baxzyc No you.

  • that omnichord is pretty fucking radical.

  • my uncle john anderson promoted this band under hunnypotunliminted

  • well that was fricken awesome.

  • Why did these beautiful and brilliant boys have to go and break up their band, i had so much fun with them

  • psh the old singer made this band...why do they think its ok to keep the same name, it sounds nothing like it did.

  • this video is teh awesome

  • Considering this was uploaded in 2007, and the A-Punk video was made in 2007 and released in 2008, I think Garth Jennings took inspiration from this, and not the other way around.

  • I wished I could equally get away with being so daft.

  • is this the new star trek?

  • And emotion is a simple test to the synapse

Don't let it fool you into thinking that you've got brains

And the more you feel, the more you will take with you

So cut the flesh and let your blood flow to the drain

    You've got to

    Tear, burn, soil the flesh

    God will do the rest

    Scream, cry, pray, confess

    God will do the rest

  • did use a casio vl-tone sample. it sounds suberb.

  • This, to this day, is still one of my favorite music videos ever. It just looks like so much fun. I really hope they sort out their issues and continue making such amazing music.

  • GREAT!!!!

  • Finally somein real

  • um...catchy song. i guess i'm hooked. they should really get back together and cut a new album themselves.

  • Where did the Mae Shi go? No new material on the internets for many generations, forgotten heroes. Without a doubt one of my favorite bands of all time.

  • great band

  • man I love this song!!

  • i fucking love this song i heard it in a american eagle store

  • Ugh, really? That makes me feel a bit ill...

  • why?

  • so addictive!!

  • That potted plant = super swank.

  • I do like this lol I also like the Jet advert

  • Why is this song so addicting? I never like repetitive songs this much.

  • Check out Mae Shi featured in the new Samsung Jet commercial on the SamsungUK Youtube channel

  • this entire album tickles on the idea of religion, and really supports you to find your own religion (whatever that would mean to you), and living YOUR life rather than living someone elses (life/religion).

    amirite?

  • urrite!

but to me (without really reading all the lyrics), the Mae Shi only really sung about christianity, but I can't tell if it's positive or negative

  • Looks like MTVU is making a push for them.

  • I guess I didn't see any facetiousness in it. I mean, that's a really good interpretation, so I like YOUR reading of the song. But I'm still not convinced. The title, in context of the other lyrics, just makes me think of the way that some fundamentalist Christians think its okay to consume, consume, consume without regard for preservation, because the earth is only 6,000 years old. blah blah blah. Anyway. Sorry about the long, boring comment. I've said my piece.

  • Mommieslittleboy- you make a good point, and i completely agree with you in regard to the "fund Christians" ideas of consumption. its so true and a sadly laughable truth. However with this song, specifically with the lyrics "tear, burn, soil the flesh

god will do the rest" demonstrates that they are subtley mocking religion. I think the entire album is a nice stab at relgion.

  • The song is incredibly catchy, but the lyrics seem pretty passive aggressive. There's not a shred of doubt behind this kids, which is admirable, but makes me uncomfortable. It's like, they're having a good time, confidently telling everyone that if you're not Christian then you're stupid and misled. I bet Jesus would be a bit more considerate than that.

  • I believe they are being facetious. Which is the beauty of it- their atheists telling everyone to hurry up and die. pretty awesome.

  • Where did u find out they are atheists?

  • bslack07- this song and the entire album is a big shot at religion. On another note, before i even heard of the band i randomly sat next these guys on a flight from london standsted to dublin last year while they were touring Europe, and they didn't strike me as religious at all, just really laid back well intelligent people.

  • Are you saying that religious people aren't laid back and intelligent?

Just asking. Not trying to pick a fight.

  • i dont think that religious are very intelligent the more intelligent you are the less religious you are. That not good but its a fact

  • Religion has nothing at all to do with intelligence.

There are plenty of good arguments for and against the existence of god in both science and philosophy. Einstein believed in god, and I'm sure your not claiming that Einstein was stupid.

So until you get some evidence for what you saying i suggest you stfu.

  • you should be more kind. If you were religious you would be. Thats what i am saying, being religious is a good thing

  • I think that would depend on the religion I chose, and how I interpreted the holy texts/ commandments of said religion.

  • I think you are right but anyway the statement i made below is not correct. We shouldnt talk about religion cause we make people angry

  • kindness is not related to religion

youll find that any study of the religiosity of prisoners in american prisons will show that they are overwhelmingly religious, and were so before they were incarcerated. it seems athiests have the sense and the morality to commit fewer crimes

or were just better at not getting caught

    ;)

  • Errrr Wrong.. A year before his death Einstein wrote (full letter at link):

The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weakness, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still purely primitive, legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.

  • while this is hardly the place for a religous discussion ill just point out 3 things

    1. einstein, unfortunately for his reputation, used the word god in reference to his reverence for the natural universe, not yahweh god of the jews and christians

    2. youll find in any study that links intelligence to religiosity generally the smarter people are the less likely they are to believe in god.

    3. there are no arguments for god in science, the only thing the religious stand on is faith.

    dont lie.

  • Ok so its 1am and I am drunk, too drunk to ever possibly care about some youtube comment, however this is the only time I am ever going to bother replying to one.

I really can't possibly be bothered to explain my point of view, possibly I explained myself badly in the first place. So I guess you'll just have to congratulate yourself on proving me wrong and I can drift back into a state of blissful apathy.

  • @CrunkRockSteadyEvan religion is not the only system in which there is a god.

  • @CrunkRockSteadyEvan Have you ever read any books by Lee Strobel? Because you seriously should. (I'm not here to argue, all I ask is that you read some of his works with an unbiased mind. I've done the same with both ends of the spectrum-I wouldn't ask you to do anything I haven't.)

  • This all looks so random ... love it!

  • Architecture in Helsinki Station on pandora yep yep.

  • Great video! Awesome song!

    Love the ending.

  • I love this song :)

And the video makes me happy ;) haha

  • does any one know what the instrument the guy in the orange shirt is playing at the beggining

  • omnichord

  • they r good so funy that song appears on a tv commercial of DC SHOES So is os fuckin fun ..............

  • the kinda sound a tid bit like polyphonic spree. real catchy.

  • lets'o people

  • dc shoes

i have been looking for this song for a long time

    is awesome

  • YES! me too.

  • they played this song on the dailly habit

  • they were good

  • bk is a shithouse!!

  • just like your house

  • SOunds like flaming lips rip off with wierd sounds, but thats good. Dont tell anyone but every night at 2:34 i make sure the curtains closed and i pull out my johnson and listen to this music for a good jacking!!

  • WTF?!?!

  • XDDDDDD

  • I find that sexy?

  • lol nice

  • @Darknads Except FL sux rhino and the mae shi are inspired and brilliant.

  • @Darknads

Ohhh I get it, like it's building up.

  • wuts that instrument??

  • Saw them at Nickel City Arcade in San Jose. Amazing show!

  • cool video.

  • Kinda sick Kinda 2004

  • Great song. I cant work thses guys out though. Lots of the songs on the album have great bits in it, and then they just ruin the song with some random nonsense. Kingdom come must be a contender for worst song of all time.

  • how is Kingdom one of the worst songs of all time??? theres no random nonsense in there songs really...

  • I think it's a stretch to call the album a satire on religion. My interpretation is that they're christian, but that's just my view. Doesn't really change the music for anyone; or at least, it SHOULDN'T...

  • i just saw them in austin, fuckin wicked

  • That would be the best 200 I ever spent. Too bad I dont live in LA. Or even remotely close to California.

These guys were amazing at Harvest of Hope Festival. They threw a parachute over the crowd and everyone rushed to get under it.

  • is it true that they'll play a concert for you if you pay them 100 bucks or something? If you live in their area?

  • apparently so, pay them $200 i think and they will play your house party if you live downtown LA

  • That is so cool

  • LOVE!

  • hey... are they the guys who performed in scrubs movie? I kinda forgotten which episode but they do remind of this band who appeared in that series.

  • i think the band who appeared in that episode were the polyphonic spree. they do sound like each other.

  • I randomly sat next to Jeff Bryon from the band, on a flight from London to Dublin, while they were touring Europe in May of 2008. Really awesome guy, and glad to hear the band is doing well. This song rocks!

  • Damn, this song's so fucking righteous.

  • They are so athiest its unbelievable. haha.

Hillyh is a concept album in which they say what is God gets pissed off and deciedes to Go old testament on us humans. I really have no idea how that can be seen as christian in any way. Besides Young Marks. which is an absolutely Brilliant song is like an athiest anthem. Apart from the organised chaos another thing that sets the mae shi apart are thier amazing lyrics.

  • They're so atheist- they totally talk about how god exists and then how he get's mad. It's so intelligent to say that, like oh my god. I'm atheist because I think god hates people, too.

Thinking that god doesn't exist doesn't make you atheist at all. You have to think he exists and that he hates people, totally. Thats how shit works.

  • Wrong. Atheist = "one who believes there is no deity."

  • I was being sarcastic, in case you couldn't tell. I was insidiously making fun of Kaulayush for originally saying that they were atheist because they talked about how god was angered. Obviously that's a retarded statement, so I tried to use satire to say he was stupid. Sorry for the confusion.

  • not to b rude or anything but sarcasm isn't something you can really express in text

  • Not satire.

  • What isn't satire? What I said? Yes it was. It was a literary tone used to make fun of a human weakness-in this case, stupidity, or the inability to accurately understand meanings of words or songs, or concepts of religion and God.

  • No, you're right. Sorry. You're the Jonathan Swift of the Youtube generation.

  • stroke paso x aqui )=D

  • OMNICHORD OMNICHORD OMNICHORD,

    best "instrument" ever invented-nichord.

oh my god i love the omnichord,

    OMNICHORD! OMNICHORD! OMNICHORD! OMNICHORD!

  • i usually hate christian rock, but hating mae shi is impossible because they are so good :)

  • they're christian rock??

  • ya what?? I've never heard any kind of christian reference ever in any of their music... EVER

  • "god will do the rest" at like 2:45... it doesn't mean they're christian rock, though.

  • Hey, they could be Buddhist, "The Mai Shi" enough said. After all Buddhism is a religion with very little flaws, and of course good morals. I wouldn't be surprised if some white people would join, after all there's this Hollywood movie actor that did. I'm done wasting your people's time, lol.

  • They arent christian rock, they just did their whole album about the bible, listen to their other songs or look up lyrics, but anywho...

  • The entire album is simply its more of a sneer at religion in all its forms. Like, "Young Marks" scorns people who use religion to justify war. "Pwnd" satirizes the vengeful god of the old testament. Lamb And The Lion", "Leech And Locust", "Book Of Numbers" -- all biblical references. How i do love Hlllyh, It's full with beautiful sarcasm.

  • i saw these guys in paredes de coura, in portugal!!

they were just amazing. awesome band and this song is really cool

  • Hey. This is a music geek question. There is a little white thing that the guy on the right in orange shirt has and I was wondering if anyone knows what that instrument is?

  • that is an omnichord, they bought it at goodwill

  • I saw these guys yesterday!!! They were amazing, I wish they'd play at my house!!!

  • Awesome song and video. An anthem for this decade.
