Yeah, at the Newark concert, I can say that they were dancing with the girls (or at least Yoochun) a little too much? I was completely shocked, since there were a couple of kids there lol
I completely agree with you. As much as I love JYJ, I do feel as though that in order to get the kind of success they want in the US, they need to start breaking out of the mould the Korean industry put them in, what with all the fanservice. It's not like they need to attach themselves to a different girl every night but they need to gradually involve themselves with women and stop thinking that they will 'hurt' their fans. I really hope that your wish to direct a JYJ video comes true ^^
These things work against them, not because they need to get half naked with some girls to appeal to more American fans, but rather because it takes some of the wind under their wings. They feel strange and may not be recieved well for something that, as you mentioned, is easy to fix. I hope JYJ the best because now they need more help than TVXQ2. Those guys don't care to appeal to an American audience. They don't need to but it might just be JYJ's salvation while they fix their legal problems.
Their "Before U Go" dance had some sexy moves, which might alienate some male fans, and ummm....ZERO women. Yunho claims he hasn't dated in over two years. Does this really strike anyone as normal? The president of SME told Heechul, I'll assume you know these artists, to date within the company so if he gets caught it is easier for the company to avoid a "scandal" Seriously, Heechul is like 27? Dating someone is a scandal? They are fucking insane. They take their chastity culture too far.
To highlight the case more, I know I'm writing too much but I always have so much to say about them, look at the two member TVXQ. They definitely attracted many new fans with their strong, manly KYHD video. They also released their "Before U Go" track with the pitiful romance between Yunho and Go Ara. These young handsome men...have you seen them dance much with women at their performances? No, you see a group of male dancers behind them. If it is a female dancer she is usually a celebrity.
They might understandibly be concerned about their predominantly Korean female fans reaction. They are insanely possesive. You would think these crazy bitches are on a mass date with them. That is probably part of the reason why they are cautious about women in their shows. I know Yoochun would have the most fun out of the three if he could dance freely with some attractive dancers without being labeled as "corrupting" to Korea's youth. Which GD, another BigBang member, was accused of.
Skinship with the opposite sex is seen as a "scandal" in Korea even though these young men are in their twenties. It's ridiculous. I don't know if you follow Big Bang, who definitely have some sexy videos...anyways, TOP, a member of the group once performed with Hyori Lee (I'm sure you know her!) for his song, Pretend to be Unconcerned. He kissed her on her FOREHEAD in a live performance and fans freaked out calling her all kinds of names. It was the most immature reaction I had ever seen.
As I stated earlier. It needs to start slowly. A few girls here or there, some duos or whatever and eventually they will portray this female-male interaction in a believable manner. I watched the live "Still in Love" performance and I mean this...Jae did not look all that comfortable. Many fans say it is because Jaejoong may be gay...which is fine...but that shouldn't affect the image he has to portray in his music and live performances. Another reason is cultural.
To continue...Make-up, girly clothes, seeing Junsu in that halter top..cringe worthy and maybe too much dancing for Americans' taste served against them which is heart-breaking, they worked very hard with language, racial and cultural barriers. And also, Kanye West? An ass because he had the connections and talents to have helped them project a more American style image and he didn't do anything for them. Just an egotistic half-hearted rap. Makes me go crazy but many other factors account here.
YES! This is the problem with how JYJ is being managed. They have talent and heart but how they come across..especially to non-Koreans or Japanese needs a bit of help. I don't expect them to start "macking" on girls but certainly some genuine male/female interaction is needed. It would also be great if they could get a female singer for some of their songs. It would build on their image in a way that wouldn't put them in an awkward situation. Jae did not look that happy dancing with those girls.
I seriously hope you get to direct a video for JYJ.It would just prove to the American Music industry that JYJ is not just termed as 'queer, all eyeliner, fags or WTFFashion' but them actualy playing the game right, or them acutaly finding the main idea of how they can make it into the American industry.
And By the way I found Triangle suprisingly hot, Jaejoongs hair extensions and Yoochuns black tank top, yumm<3
Don't loose hope on your dream, cause i seriously think it will become reality^^
I hope you achieve your dream with all my heart! JYJ have the talent to make it global, I truly wish tthat it would be you that could make it for them.
Ah, when watching Ayy Girl I seriously wanted to scream out of frustration, for everything you said in your review about the music video I similarly felt, I want to be able to support them openly but truefully I can end up wanting to hide it because of the prejuidice and hate, it's sad.
I really hope you succed and get your message through.
Have you thought of maybe trying to find a few guys, dress them up like jyj and remake the 'ayyy girl' yourself,in your own concept and show just how cool this song really is. or any other song like "be my girl". i'm sure you can do it and i would think the response will good if the fans know your intentions.you never know, the video becomes viral, becomes a talk amongst the kpop world.maybe jyj's team sees it, or even jyj themselves see it, if the video trends on twitter.
wow i feel bad for not finding this vlog earlier. that is a beautiful dream you have there and i sincerely think you can make it happen. the title of this vlog confused me at first then i understand. very interesting and true. i hope they make it big and change some sort of societal view on well groomed men.
Sometimes, i just wanna be their manager or someone who can actually just give opinions and suggestions freely to them but what can i mere fan like me do -_-
Ahh I really really really REALLY hope your dream will come true! I know that would be epic! :D
this is creepy cause i was just thinking/daydreaming of the same thing (video directing for free) earlier today before i found your video :O idk if you've heard their new songs but "mission make it" seems like a great song to work with for an MV, whats your take/imagination on it? :D
i love AKTFnews so much but i prefer to listen to more because i think you sound more mature and reasonable. and if you ever had the chance to direct a MV for JYJ i'm so sure it'll be a BLAST. i'm praying for your dream to come true and just keep your good work and who knows what the future is holding for us ^^
This is the first time I've commented on a Youtube video and it will probably be the last but I just really had to say this: I think you are the perfect representation of what a fan should be. You are articulate, honest, and bearably biased and for that I really, really, want to say thank you. Thank you so much for vocalizing what people like you and I want. Thank you for not kissing asses. Thank you for going after a dream that I'm sure will not die without a fight. Please don't ever give up.
Your dream is beautiful! Hopefully one day you get to direct their MV b/c right now they need someone like you, who is willing to make them appeal to the americans but not lose who they really are. On the bright side they probably did see your video since it had so many views! I really wish that you had connections w/ JYJ's management or publicist so you can tell them that you are willing to direct a MV for free! That would be awesome so please don't give up!!
well said! i hope you do get to direct a music video, and then you should let me meet them! kekeke if you would do that you would be on my "love for life" list! anyway i loved the video that got rejected too, but when i was commenting, my computer shut down on me (WTF!) but yeah. even if you don't get credit, i bet the staff will secretly look to you and other youtubers for advice lol
I agree with everything that you've said, in the Music Video review and in this video. "Learn the rules, and then break them"? I couldn't have said it better myself.
And I believe that JYJ management did see your vid and take some of your advice. Just went to the LA concert yesterday and imagine my surprise when I saw girls grinding against them onstage, very minimal makeup, and no "ethereal fashion"! =D I believe that you might've gotten through to some of the management at least!
its true that a lot of us JYJ fans have to suck up "shame"
i personally feel no shame in being a cassi and loving JYJ but at my school i get made fun of constantly because i am a blue eyed blond haired girl who loves korean music and apparently that is wrong...?
alot of the time i dont want to put up with people bitching about my fandom so i dont really openly watch the videos but i am still a proud JYJ fan and a proud TVXQ fan who will always keep the faith!
Hey, if they did reject your JYJ video, which means that they did watch it(: so your comments and suggestion might be listened to by the people in the company(: CHEERUP:D
I agree....make it seems like it's shameful to like JYJ....why be shameful. Anh cassies though when come to supporting the guys..does go crazy..including myself ...but when come to critic..i think we are all open mind and logically. and yes some fans of Asian artist always say "why do they have to change their style when then enter American market" well they need to adapt... American culture is still different from Asia...adapt to survive...I do hope they saw it...and evaluate
I think somebody from JYJ managment saw ur vid and actually followed ur suggestions!!During JYJ NY showcase there were girls as back up dancers and they didn't put heavy make up!!!!
i agree with you .. i hope that JYJ does see your video & listen to your advice & i also hope that you`d be able to direct an mv of theirs also ;) i also agree with you about aktfnews .. i also love that man to bits, though, i didn`t like how he talked about facing that shame also .. i mean, i might not understand how it feels to be a fanboy, but i`m proud that i`m a fangirl, even if my mum doesn`t really like me being one .. anyways, you are awesome & just good luck.
and if u are not an hormonal fan you know that love means honesty!!as real IFANS(meaning no con to Asia)we want JYJ to succeed here and for that to happen somethings need to change to appeal to Imarket!!
jyj don't need to change their selves it's true....they just need to show their true selves like we have already seen on their stalking pics!!what L say,it's the same for me, we have no connection to asia we just love TVXQ for their voices (ok also for their looks)and cause of that we look for trans on net for their songs,we buy albums and even dvds when there is no eng sub!JUST CAUSE WE LOVE THEIR AMAZING TALENT!and if u are not an hormonal fan you know that love means honesty
I love everything you say, it always makes me think. I'm not actually a TVXQ or JYJ fan, but you've made me really care about the situation and be interested. I guess this isn't a very compelling comment, I just wanted to share. :)
I love everything you say, it always makes me think. I'm not actually a TVXQ or JYJ fan, but you've made me really care about the situation and be interested. I guess this isn't a very compelling comment I just wanted to share. :)
you know what scares me the most? that cause of this bad experience they will stop promoting in the US and all over the world... I'll never get to see them :(
I believe you are trying very hard to give advises, with intention to impress JYJ. However, must remember, no one like to watch a over-9 minutes defensive criticism. When you post your comments on Youtube, please remember, make your video interesting or informative. You have to learn the rules, too.
@MarukoChan751 you said "no one likes to watch over-9 mins bla bla bla". You're wrong. I watched her review video over and over again because I LIKE it. My friends, fans and nonfans like it. Are we considered "no one", too? I know many JYJ fans are smart but not many are honest enough. Even I who usually update my nonfan friends about JYJ just kept my mouth shut since Ayy Girl was leaked. I hate to say this but I was a li'l ashamed and I am a FAN, not a hater.
This frustrates me, I want them to make it big now in the US, and maybe once they understand what they're singing, some more people around me will see what I see ><
I feel the same with the whole shame thing. I've tried to show my friends and family how amazing they are and how much talent they possess, but since I'm swedish all they comment on is that they're like asian Backstreet boys, singing in a really ridicilous language and that they all look the same. Since they're so damn narrowminded I can't even get them to really LISTEN to the music and their voices enough to realise that they're good at what they're doing!
"Team JYJ" have double-standards, what can I say? And I wasn't really impressed by that, tbh. ^^
And helllll yessss, I adore AKTFnews. He's fantastic and a great inspiration for many people. But that being said, I can't deny that I also picked up on the shame and 'gay' part in his entry and went "woahh wait a sec, isn't that a tad negative?" lol.
Chin up, hun. There are many people on your side. We just get hated on for speaking the controversial truth. ^^;;
The reason that your vid didn't get accepted was probably because they didn't understand what you where trying to say. If JYJs Korean staff run the channel they probably wrongly translated it.
But I believe you should give your best shot and pitch your ideas to JYJ.
I hope you get through to them. Try your best. I really hope you succeed.
this is absolutely right. they need to adapt themselves first so people will know that even though they are asians, they can keep up with the american music lifestyle. at this point they are still banking on the asian market, and while asian population is majority in the states, not all of them will support a fellow asian. (yes, this also calls out to wondergirls) just like what APL.d.AP from BEP said to 2ne1, just dont stick w/ the asian community, do the other side too to create a following.
I'd like to see u direct a JYJ mv. Of course, u'd need to overcome the passing out and the spazzing of being in front of them, but yeah - after that. YAM will support ya ;P
don't be sad about it. your purpose for making the video was to show how the music video is flawed but more importantly, how it can be better - and I think a lot of people have watched it and it's probably safe to say the JYJ management team and the boys themselves may have seen it as well (probably why they rejected it due to content) - the main point is it's likely they've seen it. you couldn't enter to win but you accomplished your gaol by getting the views up and out there to people
it's great to know there are people dealing with problems instead of worrying about them.. I really hope they give you the opportunity to show your talent!
I hope your dream comes true. I am a fellow film school graduate, so I definately feel where you are comming from. If I lived anywhere near you I would have helped out on the shoot for free.
We both know that the Asian market is VERY timid about gender interaction unless it's fan-service-homosexuality - which is possibly the most IRONIC aspect of this debate.
Keep doing what you do - you've obviously caught a LOT of attention - I know you're busy with school ...but please do another LDTV editorial soon...with all the humor & BITE ~~~~ get it girl!
Hey, I completely understand your feelings about your vid-review not being accepted, then having another vid...as you said...repeatedly addressing "shame based fandom'" placed as a shining example. (I like Ryan too, no hate here) But please don't dwell on it. Your balls-to-the-wall approach is WONDERFUL and appropriate for your personality and skill-set. (continued)
I honestly think that JYJ cannot stand HONEST critiques, so they couldn't accept yours. Everyone kept saying "Oh I love them BECAUSE..." but they never said anything negative or truthful. It's like they worship them. But I guess the contest was "WHY are you a #1 fan" instead of anything JYJ related. I was disappointed that your video didn't accepted, but it's funny how you're beating their view counts. Shows how awesome you are speaking up for people like me who wanted to say this some time ago.
I love what you have in mind for them! That's soo great!

That is probably part of the reason why they are cautious about women in their shows. I know Yoochun would have the most fun out of the three if he could dance freely with some attractive dancers without being labeled as "corrupting" to Korea's youth. Which GD, another BigBang member, was accused of.

Since they're so damn narrowminded I can't even get them to really LISTEN to the music and their voices enough to realise that they're good at what they're doing!

the sad thing is Micky doesn'e have time to check his mentioning! I'd love to see you as the MV director if they really wanna make a debut in the US!

Chin up, hun. There are many people on your side. We just get hated on for speaking the controversial truth. ^^;;

I hear you on the "shame" thing. It's the same way with me - I rarely tell people about my fandom, and if I do, I downplay it a LOT.
I'm not altogether sure why I do that. Maybe it's the association with the Psycho Cassies?

@itsthebigpicture erase. probably not majority but a very big population. BTW i saw attached. it's really good.

(continued)

constructive criticism !!!! thats all i saw and i heard in your video.... if JYJtour~ didnt put attetion in that... well.. now depends in them :D
i actually love you... you are a great fan... great person.. (funny one) haha~ & congrats for the views :D
