I have this song on an old vinyl by Alex Campbell, a Scottish singer, would love to find a recording of it here as I do not have any way of playing the LP at present.
This is a good version, but I would love to hear Alex Campbell singing it in his very strong Scottish accent.
oh thanks for letting me know. I will have a look for it on Amazon and hope for a trip down memory lane to when I listened to him as a young girl in my tiny bedsit in Dublin.
A magical painting in words of a dark period in Scotland's industrial history, which culminated in the slaughter of the Calton Weavers strikers ,by the Third Regiment of Foot, at the orders of the mill owners and the Glasgow authorities of the day, proving that human life was cheap!!! These brave martyrs paved the way for a more civilized discourse between workers and their employers, so in their memory , Albainn gu Brath
Ditto, Mac. Same with the mill owners in Dundee. Bairns were beaten regularly for falling asleep there are records of kids being nailed to the loom by their ears.
So much money was raised by these greedy owners that they were able to leave huge tracts of land to the people of Dundee. Caird Park, Baxter Park, etc., called after them.
Some remember the owners, I remember the people who worked long hours for little or nothing.
Takes me back I've no heard this fur years or Hamish Imlach Thanks for uploading. classic.

Is that the graveyard opposite the Temptleton Business Centre? I'm thinking that it is. If so very good, it is most definitely the Calton. ;-)
