@ninjacharles11 Are you recording a game that plays in 60FPS? Call Of Duty?(BO/ MW2/3?) That happened with me when trying to record in BlackOps.. I guess because it's 60FPS and it's too fast for that Elgato Cap Card recorder..
I do not know for sure why it does this, just speculation; but that's partly why I eventually got the Hauppauge...
@pretstarpwnz If your HDTV has standard/composite input (and possibly output as well-you wouldn't need the splitters) then this Elgato Cap Card will work fine. Just understand that you won't be recording in HD just because you have a HDTV..
the software keeps saying elgato isnt plugged into my usb port on my computer wtf i cant recors but itll work for 2 mins then pop that error up but its plugged in??!?!?!?!?
@MrCaPprankcalls Well, I do not know.. maybe you need to activate it for the full(longer than 2 mins) version..Or you might try to uninstall and delete the ElgatoVideo Capture software program and then install it again..Make sure you update it. make sure you have all of the connections and recording settings correct.. Other than that, I don't know what it's doing or how to remedy the situation..
Hey I just got a new HD tv and I wanted to know if there is any possible way to connect it with HDMI xbox cables , I would be able to record In 720p HD. Please Respond
Can u plz help me out! I have the same capture card but it gives me no signal on the software for my mini Mac in the box where the video is supposed to be captured. I have an HD TV. Is it a mess up in the cords, my TV being HD or my computer? Plz respond.
@WillingToPooNvm Depending on the TB's(X11 or whatnot). The cap card should pick up the audio(game and party chat if you want) if you have it connected right with the splitters and such. If you are wanting to record your own voice, it will not pick it up through the headset, you would need a separate voice recording device and software.
@iKnowGamesAndTech It comes with the standard(r,y,w) cable with the plugs on both sides, but not the actual y splitters. But if you have an HDTV, it should have standard in and out ports, and you won't need the y splitters.
@BrokenChampion I do not really know much about the NES or SNES, so I don't really know what to tell you other then make sure the yellow plug is in..yellow is video, white and red are audio
@Guywithcontacts You can, but the viewing screen is only a few inches wide and high, it's not resizable, and what you see from the viewing screen is about a second or two latency, so that's really not advisable to try that..sorry
@TheKingOfCut You just press the stop recording button, then it will take you to the next screen where you can trim the recording if you want, if you don't then just continue and then there will be the last screen where you can just save it as a Quicktime, or import it into iMovie and other options..
So can i just plug the elgato into my mac, then plug my xbox360's rca cable into the elgato's female rca cables? will this then capture my gameplay? please reply soon
does any one know if it can pick up people talking in your game. i get the other people talking but not me. ? im not shur how to do live commentrys cus it only piks up other live voices, not mine
@NorthernEntrtainmnt You can get it to pick up the chat from other people in the game or party by going to the Xbox Guide, Preferences, Voice, then choose either TV, or Both(chat picked up just through the TV, or both the TV and headset).
You need a separate microphone recording your voice, then after, in editing, you would need to sync up both in-game chat and personal chat.
Hope that explains more and helps! I might make a video about how to do a live com, but on vacation now.
@xBarnstormer97x You dont. The S-Video is only the connection to the capture card, and the standard connectors go with the splitters and TV. You still need the red and white audio jacks with the s-video.
@xBarnstormer97x The other side of the cord connects to that Energizer multi-connection cord(or anything that you can get that connects to the xbox, has standard, and s-video. It's just that extra cord connection I show at 1:12 .. But the s-video really isn't that much better quality for the cost and trouble of getting the cords and setting it up.
@psdrummer80 You can, but I'd advise against trying that.. There is about a second(or more sometimes) delay that you see on the viewer window, and the window is only 4:3 inches, something like that -pretty small, and you can't resize it..
I use a Basic 3 Splliter set up with RAV cable and my card wont record PAL 60 In color but it will in PAL 50 how can I get it to record PAL60 in color????
@ikmachov I got the S-Video cable from Radioshack.
The component cable is the green, blue and red cables(HD).
The S-Video cable only offers a little bit better video quality from the regular Composite(yellow, red, white cables), but really isn't worth taking the time to find a S-Video cable and paying for it..
@SkylinexBleedsxRed yeah, I know..Don;t know how to really explain it any better. check out my newer/updated Elgato Video Capture Card Setup video if you are interested tho!
@SquatterCrab Possibly, not sure- just gotta try it..But I do know if it does work, you would only be able to play in 420p so the elgato can record..so it would be just playing in standard- 420p because that is what the elgato records in.. But you can try it and see if it works- you would not have to get the y splitters and extra cord..
@Yayap7 do these work on macbooks, does it come with editing software, can you edit it in i life 11 do you have to watch your computer screen or can you watch your tv?
@hulk239239 Yes it works with MacBooks/anything Mac, the Elgato Video Capture Card does come with the specific capturing software as in install disk. Then after you are finished capping whatever you want, you can trim the sides and have a few different options of what else you want to do with it.:: edit it with iMovie, send to youtube, watch in quicktime and 1 or 2 more options..
the viewing window is pretty small and has about a half second delay to it, so don't try to play on ur computer..
@Yayap7 sorry but one last question.i have a sky box and the xbox plugged into a 3 way adapter thats connected to the tv so i push a button on the adapter to change the picture on the tv from sky to the xbox.how do i connect the capture card and still be able to watch sky then change it to play the xbox(the 3 coloured wires go into a scart adapter that came with the xbox.the adapter ive got is called a maxview scart switch box incase you want to search it to see what i mean.
@randomblok Thanks! Mmm, if there is a 30.pin connector from the iPad to AV/ projector kind of cable(or device) then possibly... but if there is, probably would be hard to find(unless you have it..)
I don't know i even something like that would be definite iPad recording capability..
@LightningRegiment Let's play=LP It's when you do commentaries when your playing the game. There's blind let's plays which is when you just got the game and you don't know how to beat it, and there's normal ones where you know what you're doing.
@LightningRegiment ahh yeah, I know what Let's Play's are, just didn't recognize that LP= Let's Play..
umm, you can record it with the Elgato, then export it to iMovie and do a commentary over it and edit it there.
But as far with doing live LP's, I'm not sure of what the main or best way to do a live commentary with playing it..
You could Probably record yourself through the computer in iMovie or something, while capturing it in the Video Capture, than once you are finished with that..cont.>
@Rroaj heh, thanks. Yeah that's cool that you noticed the picture, it's of a farmhouse in Arkansas that my grandmother painted. I think it was one of the relatives houses, or just a nice house she decided to make a painting of...
@rusticclimber -possibly.. The Elgato Video Capture is only compatible with the Macintosh, and the software does need to be installed properly so it can work. Check the box to see the OS requirements. And for S-Video, the red and white jacks do still need to be plugged in to get audio.
other than the normal stuff and what is included in the video, I don't know what else to tell you..
-The device that you have could be defective... don't know..
@UGAowns247 -umm, not sure where else to specifically get them..and I don't really know of their name either.. male of one end and 2 female on the other side AV adapters..sorry
@UGAowns247 -depending on your set up, if your macbook is pretty close to the xbox(or whatever you're using it for..) then you don't need any extension cables or anything..
~all you will really need is the 3 splitters and the double ended(male) AV cable...~
and I think the Elgato comes with the double ended AV cable..
Hey i have the same Capture card and lately some of my videos i havent uploaded yet have random speed up spots where everything will speed up for a few seconds at a time. Can u help me?
@Ronin6330 -sorry for not getting to you earlier....!
umm I really don't know why your clips/gameplay would do that.. are you uploading it straight from the capture software?(I'm assuming Elgato..), or doing some stuff with it in video editing program, then uploading it..??
is you internet connection sketchy or laggy?...slow upload might interfere..
are they odd like that right after you record it?.. maybe the chords aren't secure or something..?
@INKDinc -Yes, the link of the product is in the bottom of the description.
It's just an universal S-Video and Composite adapter for Wii,PS3/PS2, and Xbox 360 and is 6 feet long. But I'm sure you can find a better one with just the one adapter of the console(s) that you have and is S-Video/Composite/Component somewhere!!
@D3ADLYMisT -faster Internet connection.. Like suddenlink or something.. What I have is about 120-130(average) Kilobytes per second...-pretty slow!...so better gameplay and no lagg!!..(hopefully)
@D3ADLYMisT -Just use the two audio jacks and plug them in to the X11's and then plug them in to the Y splitters..-I think.., I don't have a TB X11- tho Im thinking if getting one, but is another better one ganna come out soon(ish)??...other than the $200 X41's.....
@straitupslapstick -Yeah, I have looked at the Trittons and they look good as well, but I have not been able to find good prices on the Tritton website..(and haven't been able to find them..), but also I have herd somewhat disconcerting/bad reports of them..but idk still..
This has been flagged as spam show
So I have an output on my TV, I can capture sound BUT not video, can you help???

azneggroll1 9 months ago
@azneggroll1 The Elgato Video Capture package only comes with the white capcard, the Elgato software installation disk, and an adapter for Europe.
So pretty much all that you see in the video you do need to be able to work with the capcard.
Note: you do not need the S-Video cable or adapter for it if you do not want to record with the SVideo.

JHgamer101 10 months ago
@JHgamer101 yep, to record with ths capture card, you need to play in standard- the regular white, red and yellow cables..
You can't play with the HD cables, and the xbox cable cord has to be set to TV, instead of HDTV- on the little switch.
Yayap7 10 months ago
hey i need help i just got a HDTV and when i connect it its says no signal it worked on my sd TV , can you help me?
ProGamerKarahan14 10 months ago
@ProGamerKarahan14 Are you still using the Standard(YRW) cables on your HDTV?
The TV needs to be tuned to Standard(It's called different things on different TV's- Even though it is an HDTV.
The Composite cables won't work with the Elgato, as it is standard.
Yayap7 10 months ago
@Yayap7 i use the yellow, red and white cables and i connect them with a EXT(RGB) Cable but it says no signal. but how can i record on my HDTV?
ProGamerKarahan14 10 months ago
@ProGamerKarahan14 You cannot record in HD unless you have an HD compatible Capture Card, example: the Hauppauge HDPVR.
So even though you may have an HD TV, you cannot capture or use the HD/Component(RGB) for recording with the Elgato Video Capture.
I hope this helps you! If not, then just ask and explain more and I should be able to better explain as well!
Yayap7 10 months ago
@Yayap7 so the only solution is to buy a HD PVR?
ProGamerKarahan14 10 months ago
@ProGamerKarahan14 If you want to capture in HD/ full 720p or higher, then yes., You will need a HD Capture Card.
There is the Hauppauge HDPVR -which is the most common one at the moment.
and then there is the Black Magic Intensity Pro, which is a card that you install in a desktop computer.
There are others, but those are the main ones that I am aware of.
I am using the Hauppauge HDPVR, on 720p, and on my Mac- using the Elgato EyeTV 3 software.

@UGAowns247 -umm, not sure where else to specifically get them..and I don't really know of their name either.. male of one end and 2 female on the other side AV adapters..sorry
Yayap7 1 year ago
@UGAowns247 -depending on your set up, if your macbook is pretty close to the xbox(or whatever you're using it for..) then you don't need any extension cables or anything..
~all you will really need is the 3 splitters and the double ended(male) AV cable...~
and I think the Elgato comes with the double ended AV cable..

Hey i have the same Capture card and lately some of my videos i havent uploaded yet have random speed up spots where everything will speed up for a few seconds at a time. Can u help me?
Ronin6330 1 year ago
@Ronin6330 -sorry for not getting to you earlier....!
umm I really don't know why your clips/gameplay would do that.. are you uploading it straight from the capture software?(I'm assuming Elgato..), or doing some stuff with it in video editing program, then uploading it..??
is you internet connection sketchy or laggy?...slow upload might interfere..
are they odd like that right after you record it?.. maybe the chords aren't secure or something..?
sorry if none of this helps..! ;-(

can you post a link to where you got the cable that attaches xbox 360 components with the s video thanks good video
INKDinc 1 year ago
@INKDinc -Yes, the link of the product is in the bottom of the description.
It's just an universal S-Video and Composite adapter for Wii,PS3/PS2, and Xbox 360 and is 6 feet long. But I'm sure you can find a better one with just the one adapter of the console(s) that you have and is S-Video/Composite/Component somewhere!!
