  • i wondered how to do this because in order to play sweet child o mine it needs to be tuned down a half step thanks man

  • How to tune your guitar down a ½ step.

Step 1: Tune your guitar down a ½ step.

    et voilà.

  • i like the way the guitar was horribly out of tune at the end

  • Yay! Now i can play Broken!

    lol.

thank you so much for this video. It helped a lot :D

  • Can this be done with a digital tuner?

  • @quirkjerks This advice is probably too late, but put a capo on first fret and tune in standard mode. Then remove capo & you'll be in half step tuning. Or if yyou have a flat mode button, press once and tune accordingly.

  • @quirkjerks that depends. alot of the digital tuners has a standard/flat toggle button. But if it doesn't have one, you can tune according to your standard tuner and find the spot just where the tuner for example changes between an underly tuned E and an overly tuned A (if tuning the 6th E string)

  • cheers dude massive help!

  • So extremely helpful. Thanks!!!

  • ur guitar is still out of tune

  • is tuning down 2 half steps tuning it down 1 step? and if it is not, how do you tune it by 2 half steps? I'm teaching myself so I probably won't get a lot of what you're talking about.

  • on my tuner it says 440 what do i set it to for half a step down

  • or play the note one fret lower

    i.e: its a 6 in standard tuning

    for dahs, play a 5

  • reeeaallly sweet t-shirt... GUNS N ROSES FOREVERRRRRR

  • nice video dude but how do I tune my guitar back to standard while it is in half step tuning?

  • You got me confused sometimes but overall the tutorial was ok

  • thanks man

  • FINALLY! I've been wanting to do this tuning, thanks for the video!!

  • Thanks man ! Your very helpful, keep it up! I appreciate your efforts.

  • thx for the easy to follow tutorial

  • Thanks, very helpful, ive been learning a lot of dear and the headlights and most of their stuff is a half step down. Plus the latest song i wrote is also a half step down. =]

  • now i can play aruarian dance... hehe...

you guys should learn it too....

    it' a good song....

    tnx again man,,,

  • tnx man,,,,

  • is it really called a half step down? i can only find full step down on my app for itouch. :S

  • good guide man, helped alot. expecialy with guns n roses songs

  • yeah thx man that helped alot. went to howto.com and they just told me to buy a chromatic tuner... they dont seem to realize how broke i am. lol, anyways thx

  • dude i think you were mistaken. maybe you already know by now(this video's like 2 years old) you're tuning it a whole step down already because before you tuned it, it was already a half step down. it would've been more accurate if you used a tuner before you posted this tutorial but i appreciate the method you use to tune it to half step and i also appreciate you sharing your knowledge to other people. ( :

  • thanks alot!

  • thanks mate, good vid

  • I just started playing a week ago, but why tune a half step down? can't you just play every note one fret down?

  • @wingknight28

you will learn in time young grasshopper

  • @wingknight28 Think about when you pluck a string that's open, no frets or anything. you'd want it to sound in tune with the fretted notes that are being played a half step down, wouldn't you?

  • Cool video, bro but its still out of tune, like it is Eb but properly Eb, you can the strings still oscillating, heres a tip for people, play the E and A strings open, you refine the tune, there shouldnt be any oscillating, when you play them together and by oscillating I mean like the wavy sound you hear. Good Luck.

  • thanks :)

  • Thanks mate.

  • Yo thx for puttin this up, i had no fuckin clue how to tune my guitar down before

  • this is only one of the few real E flat tutorials here in youtube..

  • this helped alot dude

  • good, got mine nice and half down

  • hey when i was watching this video i was wearing the same shirt !

  • @dantenava5 Me too!

  • @dantenava5 OH REALLY? :D THAT'S LAME. -_-

  • wow your guitar wasnt in tune at all when you were finished tuning....

  • thx. this vid helped me a lot. xD

  • thanks bro

  • so basically standard, but for the low E, just go to the forth fret. thanks :) loads of help

  • thanks dude.

  • @Holpala A capo will raise the pitch of you open strings. So you would only use a capo to tune it a whole step UP, not down.

  • @ItsSummerDarling i jus did it with a capo..the guy is right

  • @ItsSummerDarling Not quite, because if you put a capo on the first fret, since it's up a half step, tuning it down to standard tuning while the capo is on will leave you with a half step down from standard when you remove the capo.

  • @jheimendinger In other words, Holpala's advice is spot on

  • @jheimendinger Oh haha i gottcha. I guess I didn't read it right in the first place because that make so much sence now.

  • @jheimendinger no because when you put the capo on the first fret everything is moved up half a step so when u go to tune it to standard it then have to be brought a step down there fore when u take the tuner off it would be half a step down

what your trying is say is u basiclly jsut put the capo on then don't tune anything then take it off

  • tht would be a full step down..

  • Thanx! Im a newbie at guitar so this helped ALOT (:

  • you're a dildo

  • This was awesome thanks so much :)

  • Best one I could find! Very helpful, thanks bro.

  • made no sense...

  • THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!!!! In can finally play my fav songs yay!!!

  • easy as pie now, thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • @Bodybuildnetwork He is showing how to tune not play. I have to agree that some of it was confusing, but I think he did very well.

  • great tutorial

  • thanks man helped alot

  • thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yesss!!! finally, thanks :D i did it!! :)) im so happy.

  • thanks for the help. much obliged. is that even how you spell obliged? oh well.

  • thanks mate really helpfull just one question - do you move to 3rd fret on the e string to tune down 2 half steps? p.s. nice shirt!!

  • oh my god dude thanks!!!! i really needed this thankyou a billion

  • thanks man!

  • wow i actually prefer half step down.. its easier to play on my guitar since im kind of new.. but i personally think it sounds better..thanks btw

  • ehh. ima little bit lazy to listen to the rest of this video. standard tuning is good enough for me

  • My dumb ass friend wouldnt look this up, so i did for her and she now understands, thanks. =]

  • i needed this

  • you looked like you needed a piss.

  • @madcreator12 ahahaha

  • @madcreator12 I'm trying to tune my guitar down now and I need to piss.

  • @BoyleTonight That's some very interesting information.

  • @madcreator12 I'm glad I had the opportunity to share it with you.

  • this really made a little sense to me!

  • sooo u mean i have to tune all my strings to 4TH FRET except G string??? em i rite??

  • boring

  • well unless your wanting to tune your guitar half a step down it will be :/

  • OR just hold your finger on the first fret ofc :D

  • Best guide ever if you have a capo and a tuner:

    1. Use your capo on your first fret.

    2. Standard tune your guitar while the capo is on.

    And Voila :)

  • thanks u! that works

  • whats capo??

  • a capo is used to make the notes sound higher. it does that by becoming like the new starting point on the neck of your guitar. so if you put a capo on the 2nd fret. the 3 fret would be the new 1st fret

  • @Holpala thanks! very clear explanation:)

  • @Holpala i just tried.. but for some reason it doesn't work :( my tuner keeps showing the same

  • @mysteryguitarchick that means you got it right, its supposed to do that, when your done take the capo off and it will be half step down tuned

  • @LovelessxXo thnx:D

  • @Holpala Ah sweet man thanks so much for that tip.

  • @Holpala when i put the capo on am i going to put my finger on the 5th fret or on the 6th fret (with a capo on)?

  • @Holpala i love you, so much more simple
