This movie is cinematic gold. Anyone who watches it and who can only muster a 2nd-grade level quip about Scientology in regard to what they've seen is a prime example of the lowest common denominator.
This was absolutely amazing writing. Beautifully executed by both Cruise and Kava. I was blown away the first time I saw this scene. A well deserved nomination for Cruise, and a nomination robbery for Kava.
The part where is laying in his bed with his Dad by his side and he asks, "who's gonna love me?"...Wow, that gets to me every single time and makes me cry. Cruise should have definitely won the Oscar for this, it doesn't get any better.

This is one of the most powerful scenes in Tom Cruise's career, together with the "advice of the galatically stupid" scene from A Few Good Men.

@superhornet69 I remember that scene so vividly. I saw that movie and I sobbed my eyes out at that scene. A week earlier, a girl publicly humiliated me in front of my cousin, who was visiting me. Then two days later, my grandfather died. I saw the movie a day after my grandfather's funeral, so needless to say, I was beyond depressed when he said to his dad, "Who's gonna love me?" Getting dissed and losing my granddad in the same week...that line echoed in my head for weeks.

The whole confrontation with his mother leading up to "who's ever gonna love me?" is probably the best scenes there is to illustrate clinical depression: anger, low self-esteem, guilt, pervasive sadness, catastrophic thinking, despair. This is one of the most powerful scenes in Tom Cruise's career, together with the "advice of the galatically stupid" scene from A Few Good Men.
