I live in Grand Rapids. On that part of the highway, where the sections of road connect, there is a jump in pavement. Most likely the main reason the truck flipped, along with speed of course. You should try hitting that on a motorcycle... nearly get airborne.

@TheCalgarydoug I think the video tells it all. The driver aplied the brakes(probably hard) and as they said the cargo shifted. You can see the trailer pull closer to the cab(obviously the brakes where applied), and once the heavy trailer has it's own momentum game overand the cab has to go along for the ride.

@DeeZanic There are Qualcomms or some variant in almost every Tractor trailer nowadays. USA Truck is a big company. They definitely have qualcomms. They record everything. I also work for a one of the BIG 3. If you hit the brakes too hard (AKA Hard braking event or Rapid decelleration) they are sending you messages asking what happend seconds later. If you go around a ramp to fast it sets off what is called a Rollover event if you follow too closely it sets off an alarm. They see everything.

The company that owns the truck is one of the many "student mills" in the trucking industry, Don't know about this company in particular, But typically, these "mills" hire drivers right out of truck driving school, give them maybe 2 months of additional training, pay them less than nothing and too often, this is the result of that inexperience. If they last 4-6 months, they make them driver trainers. Because once a driver has 1 yr of experience he can move on to a better paying job.
