ok JENM20 but there are good shark info sites on the net too. try the likesharks site, it has videos articles and tonnes of info on each species. type likesharks into google and its like the 5th or 6th result
This is a great video. The people swimming and cage diving with them are totally fortunate to have been selected to do so. Watching wild great whites who are not in "captivity" or stuck in a beach liner rope/net is truly a blessing. I have not swam with them while in a cage, however, I have been diving for my job off the coast of Long Island, N.Y. searching for hammerheads and low and behold, we saw 4 great whites swimming by and they stayed in our chum lines, feeding. We GOT OUT OF THE WATER.
the female with the obvious mating scars is right about 19... (going by what Mauricio, the resident Marine Biologist at Guadalupe said, I didn't measure myself ;-) she is out almost every season.. boats leave out of San Diego and Encinata Sept-Dec if you would like to see in person.
very beautiful i love sharks they need all the support they can get , way to many sharks are killed every year by people ,and there is no reason for it at all for this but sick people . love the sharks.
:-) Good catch, you know your sharks. The big female is actual one of the more docile sharks at Guadalupe, but she is certainly intimidating when up close.
Typically the males are smaller than the females..and yes much more aggressive. Sharks, like people are never a sure thing, big females get aggressive too... but a good rule of thumb is that the males are quicker to bite.
that is a female, and those are mating scars. when the male mounts her he grips on close to the gills with his teeth. This is a shark we call Scarboard (like Starboard, but scar) as her scars are quite substantial. There are videos of some shark species mating that show this behavior, although great white mating has never been filmed. Thanks so much for asking an intelligent question that I actually know the answer to :-)
Just been blown away by that footage! I'm a Brit, so no Great Whites off our coast (yet...), but I was wondering- who did you charter for this trip? Any information would be gratefully received! Many thanks.
nice work all around. nice footage, nice music...great work I love these incredible creatures they are truly magnificent!...My ultimate dream is to see the great white up close. Done the bungee ,sky diving but to see nature like the great white, lion and crocodile are my future for sure.
Wow! Very Very Cool Video. I am assuming this was not in US water by the use of the bait, but other then that this is some of the more spectacular white shark footage I have seen. I love the music too. What was up with that one shark with the wounds? Congrats on a very nicely produced piece. Where was this filmed?
Yup... it was a female shark (as someone fairly shark smart mentioned below). They often have mating scars, males will often have scars, either from other sharks, or from getting caught up in something. Females are usually first ID'd by mating scars around the gills from where the males hold on during mating, and then of course by the lack of an extra set of fin like appendages on the underside. Thanks for the comment!
Good film. They almost convince me they are gentle, peaceful creature - but try telling it to the seals!! Beautiful footage, I love to see them swimming.
wow!!! you got some good footage of those golfish mate! which one was the 19 footer? some of those look like small cars! the first one is big as is the one at around 2.08!! look how thicks its body is! cool video.
That is one of our originals, 689 Design music studio. Zander Vera composed and created the piece. Thanks so much for the compliment, he ill really love it... we do a ton of commercials, but really enjoy personal things like this... We will have some scored pieces coming out soon.
Same way I feel about people! Thanks for watching and commenting though, I am leaving this Friday to shoot some more Great Whites, so will post more soon.
You can adoptashark online at this website called adoptashark, I adopted a hammerhead with a satellite tag, very cool, they tell you where it went and how deep etc.
