Serving in the military did me lots of good. I wish all our politicians were required to serve also. The President of the United States should be required to serve in the military in order to be eligible to run for the office of POTUSA.

I didn't know this. I agree that all presidents should have to serve in the military before even being considered for election. They should not say things, when asked why the didn't serve, such as that the Vietnam War was over and the didn't think there was anything more to do. (Look at the current occupant of the Oval Office.)

Lovely video, and I greatly admire both of these men. However, I disagree about leaders needing to have military experience. The separation of civilian leadership from the military is critical for our continuing democracy. In countries where the military is too closely tied to the leadership, democracy tends to disappear. After all, there is great power centered in the military. Plus, as General/President Eisenhower first pointed out, the military-industrial complex is a huge problem.

Nothing against Mr. Kristofferson at all but.....he left the Army long ago, I could say more than forty years ago. Why all this all of a sudden?. As a matter of fact I can see in the public is the late Mr. Jack Kemp who passed away more than two years ago.

My vote goes to vets serving America, particularly those in foreign countries and who just came back from wars and that are homeless. Lets concentrate resources on helping the homeless and not pompous celebrations for the rich. Six year army vet myself; two and half years overseas in the 70s. Lets get this country back on track by helping the many who suffer on the streets without medical care or shelter or a hot meal. Been there myself. We need to help our people each and every day. My X husband served two tours in Nam as well, went AWOL when he signed up for another tour. I never got child support from him either. He decided he wanted my oldest son and of course the child protective services got involved. Final judgement they told him I was 10 times better of a mother than he would ever think of being a father. It was said in front of me. Oh, all the courts ordered him to pay me was $15 dollars a month for each child. Only had 2 boys.
OK I have watched the vid and read more than300 comments, question... My father left my mom after giving her 2 boys She had to take out a warrent on him in order to get support... My father joined the army to stay out of jail.. active warrent for his arrest when he joined .. he did 2 tours ..army finally gave mom child support 2 months before he was discharged came home went to jail 4 times for non support .Went to his grave acting like he did it for the USA. should he be considered a hero?
My question is this- why didn't the FATHER get custody and the MOTHER pay the father instead??? Or at the very least, why didn't the father get true joint custody? If fathers were treated fairly in the USA then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
The answer to my question, however, is fairly obvious. When people with kids walk into divorce court the outcome is predetermined. The father has no chance at fairness or justice.

I was sort of surprised by the person this was going to be given to until I heard him speak. He did the award proud and honored the country, and those whom serve it. He also made the most amazing suggestion that the Predisent be required to be from the military! I think that no one that leads it should not have that training. Thank you Kris and Congratulations.

My vote goes to vets serving America, particularly those in foreign countries and who just came back from wars and that are homeless. Lets concentrate resources on helping the homeless and not pompous celebrations for the rich. Six year army vet myself; two and half years overseas in the 70s. Lets get this country back on track by helping the many who suffer on the streets without medical care or shelter or a hot meal. Been there myself. We need to help our people each and every day. My X husband served two tours in Nam as well, went AWOL when he signed up for another tour. I never got child support from him either. He decided he wanted my oldest son and of course the child protective services got involved. Final judgement they told him I was 10 times better of a mother than he would ever think of being a father. It was said in front of me. Oh, all the courts ordered him to pay me was $15 dollars a month for each child. Only had 2 boys.

OK I have watched the vid and read more than300 comments, question... My father left my mom after giving her 2 boys She had to take out a warrent on him in order to get support... My father joined the army to stay out of jail.. active warrent for his arrest when he joined .. he did 2 tours ..army finally gave mom child support 2 months before he was discharged came home went to jail 4 times for non support .Went to his grave acting like he did it for the USA. should he be considered a hero?

The answer to my question, however, is fairly obvious. When people with kids walk into divorce court the outcome is predetermined. The father has no chance at fairness or justice.
