The Buddha taught that we have no soul & there's nothing to become one with. It's a little different though, depending on if we're talking about Theravada or Mahayana school of thought & it's fleshed out differently with Tibetan Buddhism. But yeah, what u learned would be good for a westernized buddhist

The idea started in India when the Indo-Europeans invaded in 1500 BC beginning with them Vedic religion. People in India see Karma and reincarnation as natural law, like it's gravity. That's just how they believe things operate. Cast system is also more of a cultural thing than a religion thing, but they're serious about it.

@emilygrace4040 You should never marry someone who's not a Christian, but I dated an atheist and definitely got him thinking about God more with our conversations. Dating a nonbeliever can be a great way to witness, especially since you must like that person a lot, and so might go to greater lengths than usual to try and turn their eyes to Christ. Plus, they must like you a lot, too, and so they'd probably be willing to listen more if you talked about your beliefs! :)
