I'd say that most of the atmosphere comes from the LACK of dialogue. It's the staging, the music, the visual cues. The eerie sense that some shit's about to go down. That's what makes the scene so great, IMO.

The army is called in and the people there for the ship departure are slaughtered in a pitiless, methodical manner. The Steps sequence is the most horrifying..
