Symmetry plays a role. But you could be perfectly symmetrical and have some really bad features like thick ass eyebrows and massive lips.
Beauty from what I've seen is a good even jawline(something I wish I had), slim nose, defined eyebrows, somewhat of a slim face, even eyes, defined chin and lastly a good personality. Oh yeah and even teeth.
no offense but Wikipedia isnt a credible resource, i'm a college student and i'm doing a research project on this. the point of the statement isnt to say that symmetry is the ultimate beauty but that for some subconscious reason humanity tends to be more initially attracted to faces that are symmetrical, meaning that was the only characteristic to go by. people are complex and multiple reasons differ from individual to individual, but people as a whole agree that symmetry is attractive.

Nobody is perfectly symmetrical. Beauty is abstract...so, its based on th eye of the beholder. I think the idea of symmetrical beauty was just made up to justify peoples insecurities..

well I agree with most of what you said
my opinion is that since the human body is split into two, then it has two individual sides which can be accessorized with it's own positive or negative features. which would explain "the good side" that most people believe they have. yet sometimes the other side may be as good or if not better (that compliments the other) which makes them really good looking.
