I wouldn't eat it raw if it's been freshly caught because sashimi should be frozen under certain a temperature for a while to kill any parasites.

What proven health effects can occur as a result of this parasite ingestion? Practical questions aside, freezing certainly wouldn't hurt. There are probably more Tai (snapper) than other species in the water as that's what everyone wants, very delicious.

One problem with this fun way of dining is that the fish served fresh and have not been flash frozen. When consumed raw as sashimi, there's a possibility that live parasites are still in the flesh. This is why Japan as a much higher rate of seafood related poisoning than other countries.
