  • make documents not movies

  • (0:10)

I'm willing to bet there were a lot more than 20,000 movies made in 2007.

  • watch "Redball" short film--post comments!

  • So what's wrong with the movie industrie Iam the connection you don't to ask me what hapened: the movie is real

  • A forest and a cut tree ;°)

  • 0:40 She looks like Alexandra Romanov La princesse Victoria Alix Hélène Louise Béatrice de Hesse et du Rhin dite Alix et surnommée Sunny par sa famille et Alicky par son mari (née le 6 juin 1872 et exécutée le 17 juillet 1918) était un membre de la famille grand-ducale de Hesse et du Rhin, devenue impératrice consort de Russie sous le nom d'Alexandra Fiodorovna Romanova (en russe : Александра Фёдоровна Романова).

  • 0:39 this movie exists

  • see my "vids" online now before youtube takes them off again V

  • they appear in another web site called "without a box" where you can find a film festival for your movie (?)

  • you guys ROCK!

  • Informative, excellent, persuasive.

  • Wow... gots shivers

  • Good for indi-film makers, seriously, but these kids and their 'views' were no less generic or obnoxious than the 'mainstream' crap they're denouncing. Being different isn't the same as being good, and if you're blocking off all of hollywood just because they have a budget, then, sorry - you're missing out. The Hollywood status quo Does Not Exist: aside from demanding coherance and production value, anything goes, so stop whining.

  • Good for indi-film makers, seriously, but this kids and their 'views' were no less generic or obnoxious than the 'mainstream' crap they're denouncing. Being different isn't the same as being good, and if you're blocking off all of hollywood just because they have a budget, then, sorry - you're missing out.

  • The point is that just because you don't have a budget doesn't mean you should be denied a chance to be seen. There are plenty of bad indy films, but they deserve a chance just like the shitty films in hollywood. Twit.

  • Thanks for getting personal, first off. Secondly, the fact that all films should have a shot at being seen is one point made, more or less, by this video. Agreed. But the evidence supplied is pretty smug. People didn't like your self proclaimed "weird" film? Well then maybe you didn't deserve to be a part of the 2% accepted by the film festival.

  • Even more movies next year? Surprising in society bent on self documentation. Just because the number of films goes up doesn't mean people need to shell out more money to take a chance on showcasing your movie. So you're going to self-promote? Fine. Great. Join the rest of the world and stop acting like you're revolutionaries.

  • and to answer your question of whatever happened to originality in films: nothing happened. Although the number of explosions has increased, we don't love "beautiful celebrities" now anymore than we did in 1950. Just which time period are you referring to when you so fulfilled?

  • Then how come there have been so few films in the past decades that aren't sequels, remakes, or adaptations? Maybe you ought to think about what you're arguing instead of arguing for the sake of it.

  • Because, like the video states, there are more movies every year; the ratio of original material to sequels and adaptations hasn't changed. In fact, adaptations have been around forever and have been responsible for countless great motion pictures. Are you saying that a movie is boring or bad simply because it's a sequel, adaptation or remake? You make a single flimsy argument and then accuse me of not thinking mine through. Interesting.

  • And are you really saying that you're above (or beyond or better than) enjoying a movie with a modest IQ and some special effects, just because it's not completely new and original? You sound fun.

  • I'm not, I'm just saying that a chance should be given to movies that don't fall under this category, but hollywood is afraid to try something that isn't original. And you need to see from our perspective as not just film fans but also filmmakers, we want the chance to get seen, and the oppertunity is often lost because of the system that's been set up.

  • Once again: Good for indi-filmakers. I haven't once said I had a problem with the strategy for self-promotion. My problem is the smug way in which the idea is conveyed. The video slams people who dis-liked the films, sticks its nose in the air about hollywood, and acts as though it's telling the world something new.

  • The fact that this is on YOUTUBE proves half my point. There are tons of indi film-makers who have thrived of self-publication long before FHTA came along. Just because you intentionally stand by a "Restricted Area" sign and then get confronted by security doesn't make you some sort of freedom fighter, nor does it make your cause anymore valid - it's the rubbish, and the snobbery that's annoying, not the cause.

  • I'm not even gonna argue with you anymore. At this point we're in too deep for either to admit we're wrong.

  • I'm more than willing to admit my faulty reception of the video if you can at least take me up on a single argument without insulting or condescending. I understand the majority of posters are jerks, but I merely meant to voice my opinion, and if we're at an impass, then so be it. But, frankly, you just don't seem interested in actual discussion.

  • done

  • aka: owned. It's OK.

  • You say you're angry because the video acts like it's presenting something new. Well, it is. I'm not talking about self-distribution, I'm talking about helping out the independent filmmaker in the digital age, which is something that I haven't seen anyone else do.

  • Good point. Although I have seen this sort of thing before, perhaps they'll be doing it in a more effective way. Still, it's the snobbery that bugs me, not the function.

  • You know, it's not gonna be easy. It's not always gonna be fun, but in time all of us will truly have the chance to do this thing we love so much without having a leesh to tug. It's wonderful to be a filmmaker right now with all you wonderful people because there's so much to look forward to. I thank you all for being a beacon of hope among the slumping independent film community. The significance this will have will be impossible to overstate. Thank you.

  • Fortunately, thanks to you people, i did not kill myself.

  • I'm confused, i dont know why i guess cause i'm an idiot, but is this only for feature length films? and what's with me having to shoot myself talking about my flick? That's why i'm a director, i don't like to be in front of the camera, i like to be behind it. Basically I have an award winning short that i'd love to show you guys, but i'm not trying to video tape myself and inter cut shots of the film with me explaining the film... does this make any sense? I guess i'm jsut lazy.

  • awesome video! (especially since i'm in it at 00:54) ^_^

  • i just sent 2 of my no-budget short films to a distributer and they distributed them both even though they did`nt play in a festival.

  • Who nose maybe one day I'll make a film

  • I'm just an old man that had nothing to do. I am now making good money making movies. I learned how on youtube. It's just wonderful. You just have to find your niche'. I don't even have to come face to face with anyone. They pay me in a PO BOX and I simply mail them the DVD. This beats the hell out of social security. I formerly played music for money, but video's are sooooo much easier.

  • The internet "Is" the future for distribution of all media. So catch a ride on the web tube tonight.

  • love to make movies..great clip...

  • I like movies... I make movies!

  • I saw the film four eyed monster, thanks to stumble. I remember this guys, the move was awesome and this project seems great, the only bad thing is that watching movies of directors with no experience can be fukin boring, OR you might find something sick-nasty-excellent.

Good luck to the project =)

  • mario kart wii

  • Hollywood has never been the problem in the start. Its simple economics, their market does not accept anything that is not in demand. And most of these movies are done from grassroots amateur perspective that is in their own niche markets. Its about making money, while aspiring artists are literally trying to eat off the floor to make it. They have to find a better medium cause hollywood cant invest in these projects. Hollywood is not a charity; shareholders only invest if they have a return.

  • A big part of the problem here is teenagers and people with no taste. Movies keep being pumped out that are "the same thing" but only older people who have seen many movies realize it's the same thing over and over. The young folk, just starting to see movies think its all new ideas. And then the cycle continues.

But we don't need theatres screens to see movies that are different. All we need is a distributor like Netflix to carry even low budget amateur DVDs

  • Absolutely AWESOME!

Keep it up guys.. Spark the nation filled with unique voices.. Build a generation of film artist for our children's children..

    -- Raymund Cruz

  • Could this be harder to understand?

  • ....I'd rather go watch tennis!....no...not really.

  • This is realy cool!

  • Excellent work - good luck to you :)

  • wow

  • Could someone please explain what the "Hollywood status quo" is, exactly, and why it should be avoided?

  • It's the notion that the big-wig producers control the perception of what constitutes a "good movie." It's the marketing machine. It's the formula driven world we live in, that if something works once it will work 300 more times and therefore should be made 300 more times. It should be avoided because it's wrong to control this platform for financial gain. I personally hate it.

  • clones. would be a way to put it. Look at fantasy films. in the ninties they were non-existant because "fantasy films don't make money." LOTR changed that however what happens much like comic book movies you get some hand picked director to make a movie on a pre-selected premise much like catwoman and batman and robin. BUT if any fantasyish film flops for whatever reason it's not due to it being bad or overdone plot. People just don't want to see them anymore in their eyes.

  • That "marketing machine" is the instrument by which a movie eventually reaches the eyes and ears of the audience. It's a system you'll have to put up with.

Make something of outstanding quality, and if the right person sees it, the wheels will turn and your work will be seen. The big problem here isn't Hollywood, as long as you're willing to make material that people are going to want to see (and if "people" *don't* want to see it, then what does it matter what Hollywood does with it?)

  • So in a nutshell - A nice video :) Its very good of you to help others in the same position you were in, so all the best of luck to you for thinking about others and for not being selfish and pretentious :)

  • We are living in a time when the ONLY thing that matters is the bottom dollar and its turning creativity as well as independent into a thing of the past. I have pretty much stopped watching movies because of this, and the only thing good i will find are things from Europe such as older films like Betty Blue Le Matin, Dancer In The Dark, 3 Colours Trilogy .. and so many others.

  • Well this is very true and as well as Hollywood monopolising the market, its the same with Technology when it comes to Micosoft dominating the market and pushing out others with a better product, and with Music which just promotes based on what sells & last is the Video Game market that pumps out the same crap over and over with no originality. And this is the problem with doing an Arts Degree, with nothing else to fall back onto. make sure you learn or know something else as well.

  • Self distribution - what a concept! How about help getting my fantastic script made into a film??

  • cool

  • bananas!!! lol

  • after watching the clips of the your movie. i know y it didn't make it through the festival

    your movie sucks!

  • omfg

    i hate the scary parts,

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • thats gay

  • thats really interesting, i had no idea that the film business was like that

  • lol banana

  • you guys rock!

  • That was really interesting and I am now going to go watch that one movie.

  • My movie is a failure - I know, lets blame the industry!

  • I hate movies :(

  • She's already dead.

  • awsome...

  • lol there are no movies i can relate to anymore, am gona kll myself

  • fu mofo !!

  • what??

  • Not really

  • movies that work on the festivals are good ones.. the rest are filtered because they are shit...these people are just using this as propaganda for their website

  • this was very inspirational

  • turns out they have standards at festivals to keep pretentious, esoteric shit out.

  • If a film has value to the market, the market will find it. The premise that the distributors are a filter is false. Seperately, much of the drama in the films represented here should be left for, "momma."

  • Very cool. Blogged about you guys on my YouTube blog.

Click 'TheLatestAt' link to my YouTube page. Then click the link to my blog for this & other YouTube news/reviews.

  • Yeah! Lets stick to them bums in HWood!!!

  • have you seen what they do to the poor girl at the end of "bad man of the sick house" here on Youtube, should be illegal!

  • Because theres so much terrible shit out there that to sift through takes film festivals, publishing cos, and most people are willing to pay others to do the work for them for finding the true talent. The idea is good but this personal epiphany is the same one people have been having since we could communicate. good luck i hope your marketing stragety moves every hipster out there to finally publish every bullshit idea that came crapping out his camera

  • Publishing is now something anyone can do. Now with access to discussion boards and blogs, even a xerox machine! On Feb 28th millions of posts were made and there will only be more tommorow. And I think the reason were doing this is for the same reasons anyone has ever tried to communicate. And getting attention is all we can ever hope for. But the problem is a lot of the good things never get seen...

  • Jesus Christ died cuz he was out-powered, not for our sins, gods are false, wait till 1000 years from now after religon has been renounced and we all look back and laugh at retards like you, worshipping nothing HAHHA what a bitch bastard.

  • Very good!

  • hiii

  • It's nice to see young film makers actually doing something to make a change in the industry. Instead of just complaining about how they are misunderstood as artists. This is how Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper got big. They changed the status quo. Good luck guys.

  • nicely said. Good teuff. :)

  • how pretentious to assume that just because something measures up to the Hollywood bar that it is not as creative as your own ideas. I saw that 4 eyed monsters movie and hated it, the camera angles were not creative, it was about 2 pretentious artists, the philosophy was 2 dimensional and disagreeable. To each his own. By the way, i don't like explosions either, but movies such as "The machinest" are true works of art. It, by the way, made it to Hollywood. Like most movies worth seeing.

  • Amen.

  • Superb guys, great initiative.

btw couldn't believe what I heard coming from this festival jury dude... So it's indeed done accounting to marketability... sad.

I'd be happy to join one day :)

  • wevoo(.)tk ONLINE TV

  • Check out my LetterBox Explosion Movie!!!!

  • lol

  • Im from England. God, I used to watch your Four Eyed Monster vids via MySpace years ago and just lost touch. I've always loved what you guys have to say...

So many of us are so bored with typical Hollywood predicatble films so thanks for keeping us entertained with some real art. Im starting to fear that Brit films are having more and more money and influence from Hollywood taking away what our film industry stands for.. indepandancy.

    YOU GUYS ROCK SO HARD.

  • I Love what you guys stand for I completely understand what you mean when you say What happened to the Origionality...I think you guys are on to something great...and I wish you the best of luck...hopefully hollywood caves in one day and starts to let some of you guys in...the time for change is way past due!

  • Wow, very interesting. As a student filmmaker, I can understand the dilemma of distributing films, creating them, and getting audiences to watch them.

  • interesting idea... so you cut out the middle man to reach more obscure audiencies with obscure movies...

  • cool guys, we shall prevail!

  • I agree completley. I have my own comics I want to make and seeing all these people self destribute I'll do the same. I rather work 2 jobs and do it myself.

    This video changed me.

  • movies are cool. I should make a few myself someday

  • Definition of Luxury Denim. Hot video.

  • if its not in hollywood its not good!!!

  • I hope your not serious. Have you seen her and Aarons film?

  • you guys suck!

  • you guys are really doing something great here.

not alot of people take a stand

and.....stand up for what they believe

i hope your hard work doesnt go un areciated

  • *yawn* what now?

  • I can`t understand.

  • type in johnyman20 and watch a dog movie preview.

  • I really like what you guys are doing

  • this is a wonderful initiative, and i truly appreciate it, BUT, I wish i was more ready to go through all the CRAP that gets made in order to find the truly great films.

  • Jean-Luc Godard once said that the problem with filmmakers these days is they use a camera to feel alive, not to capture things with the camera which the eye cannot see. I'm getting the impression that you think that you have talent just because you're creative. No. This has happened in the past, but young artists of today do not have such talent and, nonetheless, think they do because of this history. They lack the talent because they don't want to put up the effort to get a good result.

  • alright there guys and girls how are ye? I'm an Actor in scotland and am very interested in putting a wee film on youtube at some point to see what happens! • Oh hi, welcme to mythbusters!

  • I think it can really come from both sides. Indie and Hollywood have as many good movies on both sides as they have bad movies.

  • thanx, thanxx for this you guys.. I`ve being having this sort of ideas here in Brasil.. I`m into developing a new way of movie distribution as well, and guys, you cant beleive the amount of good stuff that young people is making in here.. i`ll be in touch, k?

  • "outside of the hollywood quo".

most of what hollywood has to offer today is absolute shit. but thanks for degrading us nonetheless.

  • Is time travel to the past possible?

  • hmmm. wow this is exciting i look forward to some cool, original filmpieces. Heck yes!

  • the cutest dog ever looooooves him some techno at digital funtown!

  • Great Video Man!

  • The film industry is like any other industry - an Establishment.

So the way you get in any industry is to have some already established company sponsor you - basically financially, but in other ways too.

That's fine for computers or engineering but the film industry is about art. Art should always be on its own terms and not have to answer or be controlled by some Establishment.

Good art needs freedom. That's why this is cool.

  • "But here's the problem, a lot of the movies getting made never gets seen"

if there really is a god, I deeply thank him for that "problem"

  • There will be blood, No country for old men, Into the wild--anyone?! Were you kids too busy crying over your unsuccess to notice that this was an excellent movie year--thanks to who?

"WHAT?! those sucked! we like juno! cuz it is indiehh and DIFFERENT HEHEHEH"
