I really don't get this... I'm 23 now and I used a Pentium 75MHz PC with 64MB RAM, no CD drive, running Windows 98SE all the way until 5-6 years ago, and guess what? I'm a software engineer...

My point? Instead of developping this cheap laptops for third world countries, they could just re-use older computers which can not only do the job well (Because they worked for me.) They're also cheaper, and clearly better for the environment as nothing has to be produced.

Cheep PCs and laptops are at least $500- so I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Plus they give one to a child in another country! It is so awesome that they even started making computers for kids (it's about time). This is not a toy- this is a real computer people- two of them at around $50 bucks each (one donated)! I think this company is only making enough profit to come out even. I only wish there were more caring companies out there.

The level of poverty in the US is nothing compared to that in africa, I mean, sure, we have homeless people, but they have at least some degree of support (even if it is very little), also, they are living in a very modern society, so there are more "chances" for them. In africa, this laptop will save money for the schools and help kids connect to the modern world and have a world of knowledge open to them

i lost interest at the lime green power supply and couldn't get my eyes off Master Chief's helmet back there.

i think that Microsoft should have done this, mainly because Microsoft pretty much runs the computer industry and these poor kids that are tech tards are going to grow up and want a better computer. but oh, which one..the Mac or the PC, well, considering these kids dont have money, or else they would get an HP or like..an Alienware. they would probably go with the PC to save money.
