  • Any one dumn enough to say vh wins.. Where are they today? And where is sammy? Umm he is kuckin ass as usual with his little group called CHICKEN FOOT.

    ROCK ON.SAMMY

  • sammy was rockin before vh was born

  • This is why Sammy Hagar was worthless by 1978.....and a small band named Van Halen were about to explode onto the world that same year.....VH wins, and Sammy loses!

  • I love this tune!

  • He looks like Andy Gibb! This is so bad it's embarrassing!

  • This was after Montrose??? WTF?

  • Sammy looks like Glen Fry in this vid

  • commented below a couple months back, but.......forgot to add: wondering if this is Denny Carmassi back there on drums, or Chuck Ruff? (other?) but pretty much think this is Denny, who was the Original Drummer with Sammy (along with Bill Church there on Bass) in Montrose. hell, we've got 3/4's of Montrose, Right here! lol Sans Ronnie! also, don't 'ya love how, other than perhaps the "Music" track, which they may be synching to, that Sammy is Singing this Live. not like today

  • @drumdude46 If it's Denny he's using a downsized

    kit from his usual

  • @yourunclehank1

Yes that was Denny. Chuck Ruff joined the band shortly thereafter. Alan Fitzgerald was playing keyboards at that time so it was essencially the Montrose band, versions 1 & 2, without Ronnie. Alan also played bass with Montrose. It was great times I wish I would have kept a written record of all the places people and things I met & did when I was working for Sam.

  • Damn,that's Sammy Hagar?

  • Very Nice, and a quite "clean cut" sammy here, as i imagine, he was still somewhat going thru "career direction" Experiments, and most probably at the behest of "outsiders" (see; Producers) who perhaps, and given this was the era of the "Soft Romantic Hit" most definitely, were influencing him to offer a more Kinder, Gentler Hagar, than his Montrose Outing. Robin Gibb, Fleetwood Mac, the list goes on, countless others were charting at this time with easy listening Pop Radio stuff.

  • @drumdude46 That's exactly what this song was, an experiment with getting a soft rock hit, a genre that was exploding circa 1977. His first three solo albums(1976-77) had a couple of attempts at getting a soft rock hit... "Flamingos Fly" should have been hit.

  • I love this tune. Thanks for posting the video clip!

  • Thats got to be the worst thing he has done rubbish

  • I never recall him doing disco. This is gay as a bag of dicks.

  • @Alvord1430 You dumbass , back then you couldn't come out on national T.V. like some freaken hard ass wack job . Some decorum still existed .and buy the way that ain't disco ...it's called Rocknroll , Fool. remember the Doobie Bro.s?

  • @Alvord1430 lol

  • GAY

  • Sammy left Montrose to do garbage like this?

  • INfuckingDEED...he went primadonna.

Fame went to his head ,clearly HADN' t done his"homework" and wanted to be Robert Palmer.

Unbelievable to see this crap , after

    the Mighty Montrose.

  • MAS TEQUILA !!!!!! SAMMY rules !!!!!!

  • He looks like Brad Gillis from Night Ranger.

    ; )

  • Montrose, Ronnie that is, would be shaking his head. I bought one of the 70s LPs, Red perhaps? Anyway, Sammy was playing it kinda safe until he kicked his own ass in gear in the 1980s!

  • I'll bet he doesn't talk about this performance!

  • Sammy Hagar was born in the 40's, so this isn't past him. It's Mo-town-e.

  • Anything for the money, eh Samuel?

  • It's commercial TV, the height of Disco, KISS made a freakin Disco song even

  • Yep, that's Hagar for ya.......he cant come up with anything original on his own so he steals other people's ideas........first he steals disco tunes........then he steals Jimmy Buffett's entire persona........Hagar is a total hack and lacks any creativity since the day he was born.

  • Everybody was doing a disco song back then. The Greatful Dead , Kiss ,Stones . They all did it to sell records.

  • "Four on the Floor", as the Stones said

  • It's so beautiful!!! I like the tune of this song!

  • after he left montrose, he made some of the worst solo albums i had heard ( back then) , who would of known he even existed, if it were'nt for his early time with montrose, hearing stuff like this song, he never would of gone on to have the career he had

  • What were what you consider some of the worst solo albums?? I like a lot of Sammys solo stuff including one of the BEST "Live" albums ever "All Night Long"

  • This guys was made to sing. End of story!

  • My wife bought me a CD of pre-VH Sammy songs that I'd never heard last week and this was on it. I was SHOCKED and immediately fell in love with the song...great, great song. Definitely shows Sammy's versatility at a younger age. Anyone balking at this is either not a musician, or a very bad one.

  • Haa.. this is INSANE!!! I saw Sammy back up Boston in November of this same year (78), and he was a MAD Rocker and blew away Boston! I don't remember this one at all... and I loved his Montrose stuff too. Where did this disco stuff come from? This is madness! haaa

  • CHICKENSHIT

  • ...Foot, ya mean!!

  • This is great!!!!

  • sammy doin' soul

    nice !

  • WTF??!!! I never saw this.... OMG. HOW can you go from Montrose.... to this.... to I Can't Drive 55... to lead singer for the best, loudest, wildest guitar band of the time period? LMAO.... this is classic!

  • shit song

  • Montrose (1973)

    Sammy Hagar (1978) {this vid}

Sammy Hagar - Danger Zone album (1980)

    What happened?

  • if somebody would of told me that this kid would be the lead singer of van halen i would of laughed my ass off

  • lol!

  • Wow this sucks! I love Sammy but this is truly awful. Was Sammy performing on cruse ships with this shit back in the 70's . That is the only possible place people would listen to this Tony Orlando type crap. Crazy? No. Shitty!

  • Not a bad song. Sammy wrote a lot of good stuff!

  • Blues Brothers...How bout' a Biscuuuuuuuuuuuuuiittttttttt????

  • OMG this is disturbing!

  • Yeah it's Funny!

  • This must be that period before Sammy discovered his testicles.

  • funny how fuckin queer this band is then sammy went on to write this planets on fire

    funny....

  • yeah but funnier still is this is the same band lol

  • Wow, turbogay. Sammy was a powerhouse with Montrose and 50% of his solo work is killer, the other 50% is this. Dave did rock, jazz, funk, showtunes and even country and even though it wasn't always brilliant it was never pussy like this.

  • What the fuck.....this is gay...I was such a Sammy Hagar fan in High School (the 70's)even

liked Van Hagar not as much as Van Halen. Listen to Sammy's new shit...sounds like the same old crap!

  • Is that Gary Pihl on guitar? whoa.

  • Reminds me of a weak Andy Gibb with a dash of Barry Manilow in there somewhere ;).

  • and he looks like the guy from greatest american hero. LOL

  • LOL! He does! All he needs is the cape and to fly around the stage now and then!

  • believe it or not i'm walkin on air i never thot i could feel so freeeee. it even fits rhythmicallly... dang

  • I like this for some strange reason.

  • ahahahahahah funnnny!!!!! I bet he cringes every time he sees this...i know I sure the hell do!

  • Aw Come On people, where's your nostalgia!?! My high school boyfriend used to play this song for me, so it has sweet memories for me. Sammy had quite a few softer songs back then. And all you people bashing Sammy, yeah he's past his prime now, but between Montrose & his early solo work, he was pretty freakin awesome back in the day! Standing Hampton had to be one of the biggest sellers of 81 or whatever year that was. (BTW I was not a fan of Van Hagar, it was not a good move for either side)

  • The Classic VAN HALEN catalogue outsells van hagar 2 to 1. There are MANY reasons why that is. The above video is one of them...

2004's "reunion" tour FAILED . van hagar took their 750k. each night while promoters took a bath. There's a reason Spambo was'nt there in 2007... THE WORLD COULD'NT GIVE 2 SHIT'S ABOUT VAN HAGAR !!!

Sam is a booze pimp. He's found his calling!

  • True, the fact that most 70's pop shite sounded like this proves The Round Rocker has offered NOTHING to change the face of music and The Mighty VAN HALEN with Diamond Dave CHANGED EVERYTHING!

The majority of Van Hagar fans were still swimmin 'round in their Daddy's nutsack when THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN were tearin up the planet back in the day...you folks have my sympathy's...

  • Funny how he was on Midnight Special many times between Montrose and solo and none of his songs were a hit!! Was he selling his music or his body to the girls in the audience??!!

  • this is freakin' hilarious. What the fuck was(n't) he smokin' at the time??!!

  • Ummm it was 1978...everybody was playing this until VH released their debut.

  • B-list second rate "singer". All time cheesiest lyricist ,hands down!

  • Dave couldn't hold his jock in any singing contest. Dave outta thank Sammy for brining him on tour a few years back and making him a few bucks...

  • Ladies and sheep, its......

SAMMY GIBB, THE LOST BEE GEE!!!

  • hahaha kills me...

  • This is so funny, goes to show that we all have humble beginnings, and for all those spammy lovers, get a life please!!!!

  • red rocker keep rockin...

  • I still say these are the worst lyrics.

  • Sammy Hagar is a real soul and r&b singer, that's why he's my hero

  • I didn't know that Will Ferrell was in a band from the 70's.

    COOL!!!!!!!!!

  • hey my nine year old thought Sammy was John Heder from Blades of Glory...lol

  • More Cow Bell!

  • LOL! Groovy man.

  • Eddie looks a little thin here. lol

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • LMAo bout the time Eddie and Van Halen hit the streets with Vh 1 thank god this shit sucks!!

  • I personally like this song. The one song that doesn't really deserve praise is "Try (Try to Fall in Love)". A ballad with nothing but a piano and a string section. But I agree that the outfit he's wearing in this clip is pathetic.

  • didn't know men wore gogo boots in 1978?

  • Nice sash. I think Chrissy wore this outfit once on Three's Company.

  • what were you wearin then? huggies?

  • Great classic moment.

  • I never knew Bette Midler wore her hair that short in the 70's.

  • eh...it was the 70s...cut sammy a break...he wasnt the only person dressing wierd and making shitty music at the time

  • This video proves that pop culture has a very selective memory!

  • Oh FUCK, what in the HELL is this shit? I can't fucking believe what I'm fucking looking at.

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • Sammy is not only one who put out some some crap! I remember some real cheezy VH videos with David Lee. And wasn't it Dave who had a wore a bare-ass pants outfit! LOL. Hey they are both good vocalists.

  • Dave's solo videos were full of naked chicks, rock climbing, and really cool split-eagle jumps off drum risers.....Spammy was too faggoty to make videos like that.

  • bull, he's too professional, you mean

  • Hagar isn't professional at all........he's always pushing his shitty tequila at shows when he should be focusing on singing songs........that's about as un-professional as you can get, bub.

  • Idiot!

  • No wonder the Roth diehards jumped ship around '86.lol! I still like the Sammy era of VH regardless.

  • I guess you like very mediocre lame music made by a fat tequila salesman with a poodle haircut! Meanwhile, Sir Diamond Lee Roth is back in Halen and they are selling out arenas and kickin ass all over America.....how does that stick in your craw, bitch?

  • I'm glad (actually no...amazed) you can read. I like the Hagar era of VH, I didn't say I liked it as opposed to the Roth era. And I was simply having a bit of fun goofing on this video. Now please, save your jock posturing for some other burnt out loser who drives an airbrushed van. Though personally I hate even having to post like this to some paper tough guy who knows I can't find him in real life.

  • Paper tough....funny stuff....I'm 6'3" and built like a brick shithouse....plus I have a black belt in karate....I would knock all your teeth out with one punch to your faggoty face....now go back to listening to your queer idol Spambo Hagar while I rock out to Sir Diamond Lee and the Halen Boys!!!!

  • Spammy Hagar....he was born to create elevator music for weird fags....LOL.

  • Entire Van Hagar - 5150 OU812 FUCK Right Here, RN Balance BOBW ---- 19x Platinum Two from Dave: VH1 1984 ----- 20x Platinum
  • hunkola ok we get it. obviously a DLR fan.Where was DLR before this current tour with Vh. He was an emt giving mouth to mouth to a looser like you.

  • What a fat fuckin poser! I hate Sammy....he was a mediocre talent at best before he joined Van Halen...and I blame him for turning the mighty VH into a group of pussy Journey wannabes! So glad he's gone forever and Diamond Dave is back fronting VH where he rightfully belongs. Long live Dave...eat shit and die Sammy!

  • You can't judge Sammy from this song, there are songs on the same album that kicked ass. And lets talk about your beloved David Lee Roth!!! if it wasn't for Van halen he never would have been cool. he proved it with his Lame-ass album "Crazy from the heat". If that wasn't posing, then i don't know what is. If you go back in time to Sammys days with Montrose, you will find a singer that totally kicks DLR's patheitic ass. Yes, dave had his day of being cool, but Sammy still is!

  • If you knew anything about Van Halen history, you would know that Dave was the one mostly responsible for rocketing VH to the top, NOT Eddie! Eddie & Alex were a jam band playing Cream tunes and that doesnt get you on the radio. When Dave joined VH, he knew how to make hard rock songs sound melodic and catchy and not just long jams, and that's why Halen became the biggest rock band in the world. Sammy was singing about "Dick in the Dirt" and other childish themes...he's a fucking joke!!!!

  • You're absolutely right, i don't know that much about their hystory, but this is a response to a Sammy Hagar video. you already know that you hate him, so why do you go around commenting on all his videos. get a life!!!

  • I comment on his videos because that fat tequila salesman ruined my favorite band! When I look back on all those horrible songs and records from the Van Hagar era, I wanna cry because they suck so bad. I can only imagine how many more awesome Van Roth albums we could have had!!! That's why mission is to destroy Spammy "Fatso" Hagar!!!!!

  • boo hoo you fuckin fag. maybe you should listen to some emo music

  • David Lee Roth sucks. And you are a fucking jackass.

  • Wham Bam, Amsterdam?? Wha? They both wrote silly songs, they both have humor, hense, the Sam and Dave tour, but they see things differently as performers

  • Hagar doesnt have a sense of humor - he's just weirder than fuck........type in the words "Sammy Hagar aliens" into Google and read the shocking truth - the Red Rockin' Douche believes his lyrics were downloaded into his brain by little green men!

  • Crazy from the Heat is also a good album, I feel, Reason Dave bothered Eddie is his love of those "show tunes", insisting on old standard covers, even EVH said this in print!

  • These have to be the worse lyrics I've ever had!

  • Wish someone would post some of his Danger Zone album Maybe "Run for your life"

  • LMFAO ! OMG ! Andy Gibb wannabe :)

  • sammy allways had a thing about van morrison so he did this song in that kinda groove...its simple as that

  • if bon scott was in bubblegum type of band in the late 60s in australia ,sammy in this gay ass shit why not ?? hahaha

still man this song kinda sucks

  • oops I meant Michael Bolton, keyboard dyslexia.

  • Micheal Bolton eat your heart out.

  • ha, ha, ha, ha !!!! beyond funny

  • and this guy became the RED ROCKER, WTF?

know I understand his stage dances.

Whatever he did great music with ED.

    but this is pretty gay.

  • Well, I dont think its gay, I think its pretty cool. And late 78/79 is when Ronnie Montrose got ahold of this kid and changed him forever into the red rocker, shows you how much a person can influence another.

  • poo, had my dates messed up, this is after Montrose, weird, wonder the story behind this one, maybe to get on Midnight Special they told him he has to look "clean". If anyone knows the story behind this one, do tell.

  • Yeah, but not by much. The first Montrose album was released in '73. Sammy certainly when through some phases afterward. By '83, he was back to rockin' it, only to slip into a mellow mood again. He's done it, post-VH, too, so it's just how he is I guess.

  • wrong timeline, he went solo AFTER Montrose

  • blame him but also blame his management team.. A lot of guys were getting talked into doing this crap in the late 70's... Peace

  • Ouch.

Oh well, I looked kinda' goofy in '78 too...

  • So there was actually a time when Sammy Hagar drove under 55, lol.

  • The bass player kinda looks like michael anthony

  • I hope no David Lee Roth Fans see this. Oh wait.....they already did!

  • Sammy in his "Pirate" phase...Aarr

  • He should of stayed in Montrose

  • How did this goofball ever get discovered? What a homo.

  • What a Moron! You obviously don't know Shit about Rock & Roll!!

  • He's almost unrecognizable in this clip.

  • Sammy can sing...he still puts on a great show and the man is almost 60 years old.

  • At certain angles it looks like the sign behind him says "I'M GAY".

    Can't say I disagree.

  • Dude ,that's a fucking riot.

  • At the time, California Easy Rock (or whatever anyone wants to call it) was all the rage. Between The Doobie Brothers and The Grateful Dead, Linda Ronstadt and even British stuff like Fleetwood Mac. Sammy's from San Francisco, so to see him in this get-up, is pretty understandable. I'm just glad someone convinced him he was better off doing harder rock.

  • Wildebeest3 = You Make Me Crazy was on "Musical Chairs" while Bad Reputation was on "Danger Zone" They were on 2 different albums. (It's OK we all make mistakes) Anyway I like this song as "cheesy" as it might be I enjoyed it as it is Classic Hagar.

  • This is cheesy. But a song from this album called, "Bad Reputation" was rockin'!

  • Sammy, where do you think you'll be in 10 years? "Wearing slightly more stupid outfits than the one I'm wearing on stage tonight."

  • Sammy has always been an amazing vocalist.

  • Was this his first cheese ballad?

  • holy haircut and whats up with the knee high boots

  • Thank you for posting.

  • very cool, but sammy is a bit funny looking

  • AWSOME!!! I love seeing old Sammy videos.

  • hey Vandirk realy good Video but Sammy dont look right in boots
