  • TOTAL EPICNESS

  • I dunno. For those arguing so strongly about having prisoners fight to the death, as well as the death penalty, consider the other currently used option. Spent thousands of dollars to keep a serial killer fed, cared for, and sheltered. That's thousands that the taxpayers are paying to care for people who questionably deserve life.

  • 11000 viewer!

  • atleast give them pants :I

  • Awesome!

  • I bet that net must have hurt at 0:42

  • They took a problem, how to pay for the upkeep of prisoners, and solved it. They made the prisoners WORK for their own food, water, and shelter by pitting them against each other in gladiator fights. That's brilliant! I propose we enforce a similar kind of system with today's prisons. It would be similar to the UFC except prisoners can use shanks and clubs and there would be the occasional fight to the death.

  • @TheMisterYang sounds good i second that

  • @TheMisterYang and u will be one of those prisoners force to fight to the death, just because someone have commited a crime does not mean their lives should be toy with.

  • @evilmickey100 I seriously dont think he means for little things like possession of pot or jaywalking, but for the likes of the sexual predator that toys with the lives of their victims before dumping their body on the side of the road, hell yeah.

  • @TheMisterYang That's the stupidest comment ever! Unless you're joking, then its a good joke. Because of course they already have fights in prison, they used to be deadly, and all it does is cost more because of medical treatment.

  • @TheMisterYang how about just death race?

  • @TheMisterYang You do realize Rome fell shortly after the Colloseum, right?

  • wow this is amazing....i never thought of this...

  • lol at 4:20 because throwing a net right into your opponent's arms is really going to stop them

  • @azndoubleb It's to stall, faggot.

  • @TheElmosMafia stall my ass. the other guy just caught it as if they were playing ball. think about what you say before seeming like a complete idiot. dumbass

  • @azndoubleb @TheElmosMafia dude, you guys are both idiots, the point of the net was to tangle up whoever it hit, and nothing else

  • Did this remind anyone of Spartacus or is it just me?

  • WOW i wish they would bring this back i think this would be allot bigger than UFC & Boxing! LOL

  • @PEREZCHOOCH

Then let's put you in there with me...see what happens. :)

  • @DantevKratos Dude that sounds like fun!

  • We still have this today. It's call the UFC.

  • I'm sure ancient writers, historians, and artists exaggerated back then just like they do today for ENTERTAINMENT HYPE, so how can we know for sure that these guys really killed each other, or if it was just ritualized defeat like the WWE or a boxing match?

    Anybody else ever wonder that?

  • @jdh501 They killed each other, Gladitorial battles was a form of slavery, and back then nothing meant more to the crowd then seeing another man kill another man. The Galdiator being killed was the hype. That's what people came to see, and the Gladiators lives was the same as a slaves.

  • @slicingwater Which ANCIENT source actually says that? Maybe it was anti-Roman propaganda written by Christian authors after the time of Constantine. Modern Christian fanatics make up all kinds of hyped up slanderous lies about the American government and culture today. Makes sense that kind of thing would have gone on back then too.

So what's the ancient contemporary source? Just wondering.

  • @jdh501 Alright. Sometimes they didn't want to have gladiators killed because they were a investment. They would mock fight and entertain the crowd much like today's wrestling entertainment. But sometimes the person setting up the match demanded that it be a fight to the death, which was very common for large audiences like in the Coliseum. You can find the original catalogs of how many gladiators participated and died in such events yourself on the internet.

  • @sourcemaster I get your point. I've just been working on a theory about how the winners get to write the history of a defeated civilization. And it was the Christian Church that wrote/preserved/copied/recopied many of the accounts of the end of the Roman Empire and it makes me question how much tampering there might have been in an attempt to slander the defeated way of life of the pagans.

That always happens. I'll check more. Thanks for the chat.

  • @jdh501 Considering the Roman Empire had been Christian for some time when it ended, and the "victors" were heretic Germanic invaders, I have no idea what you might be thinking of.

  • @lytrigian That's right, but almost all of the scribes hired by the illiterate Germanic invaders to write the court histories and preserve or rework the earlier Roman histories were Christians (that's a fact), and they had the motivation to hate the earlier pagan ways that preceded them. That's why they might have exaggerated the deaths involved in the Romans' favorite form of entertainment.

Modern American televangelists do exactly the same thing when they rail against American pop culture.

  • I love the show Spartacus.... hope season 2 is not a complete fail...

  • @OtterPops22 oh how inaccurate that show is...stop watching it and go study gladiators instead

  • @OtterPops22 it sucks Andy Whitfield won't be reprising the role for season 2, yet Im sure it'll be good as long as the survivors from season 1 come back.

  • mOAR

  • I love what they wear.

  • guy talks about helmets like he would jizz all over them.

  • Sounds like a good way to earn freedom from being imprisoned.

  • dammit.....when's the Spartacus second season coming out?
