thats pretty powerful, as you can see it was not the gas pressure increasing that produced the explosion, it is the fact that Acetylene gas is very unstable at high pressure and will decompose violently on its own.

I can tell you only one way to make that more badass.

Once the calcium carbide and water are mixed up in a 2 liter... soak a rag in diesel or motor oil and light it (something that doesn't go out easily)... leave it right next to the bottle. When it blows up it makes on hell of a big fire ball haha

Lol, if you look at the bottle as it explodes you can see that the acetylane has ignited, so to all of the idiots saying to ignite the gases coming off, the gases are already igniting, look at videos closer

my chem or math teacher told me to buy some calcium carbide, put in a bottle, make small hole in the side and add water and stick fuse in the side and light and run.. (: lmao.. i didnt see that one coming..

Actually, I don't think you would even need to make a hole. Just tape a piece of homemade fuse to the side and light BEFORE the chemical reaction takes place or you might be trying to light it when it blows your face off. lol

well.. if you fill the thing with acetylene gas.. then hot glue a fuse.. that goes into.. then the pressure from the gas igniting.. would blow up the bottle, alot more powerful than the gas breaking the bottle.. like ya.. that.. (: also i think its a waste of nice calcium carbide.. i could make some sick stuff with calcium carbide :(
