to any ref for a wrestling match a good rule of thumb, whenever you see a kid in a banana split or a spladle give it five seconds then call the pin unless he is about to break free. dont let the kids get injured.

I don't think that he was pinned early on or at all for that matter. Early in the match watch how he uses his left arm as a lever to keep his left scapula off the mat and watch later and throughout the rest of the video how he uses his right arm to do the same. Yes parts of his upper back were flat but I believe he kept his scapula off the mat alternating either his left side or his right side. No one was pinned. Watch the towel when the match was stopped. That ref saw what we could not see.

@njshoreguy9 - I'm a wrestling ref myself, and that kid was pinned so early in that clip. The book says any part of the scapula from both sides must touch the mat for a two count. I counted like 18 sec. before I turned it off in disgust.

A spladle is a legitimate pinning combination. As for submission holds, I don't think that they are allowed. I know for sure they are illegal in freestyle, not too sure about folkstyle though.
