I think Astra's look very pretty but they suck at driving, especially the hot hatch (Vauxall Astra VXR/Opel Astra OPC) They have to mutch understeer and torque steer. I'd prefer the Ford Focus ST whitch has a slightly lower top speed but a mutch better handling and easyer to drive and if you look at old Fords and Opels, Fords are mutch more reliable.

How do you know they aren't making profit on it? The next gen Viva would have to be pretty good to fill the Astra's shoes. Holden should have learnt by now, if you have a go thing going, don't change it. That has been the case with the Astra up to this point, I guess will well have to wait and see when the new Astra is out.
I have industry sources stating in anonymity that the Opel sourced product were taken on merely to give Holden an entry into the small to medium segments, where they were very weak and under-represented, even though there is no or little profit made from them.
Opel sourced Barina has bitten the dust and so has the Vectra.
This poor profit scenario is the same with Opel derived product sold almost anywhere in the Asia Pacific, leading to these being withdrawn from most markets.
Ok, then why did they just start selling the Astra in the US as a Saturn? They come from exactly the same factory in Belgium as our Astras. The American dollar isn't doing to well at the moment and prices start at USD$16495, which is roughly AUD$18144. Yes Americans get cars for a lot cheaper than Australia, but surely Saturn would be selling Astras at a much greater loss.
Ah, but if you read most industry analyst reports, they are forecasting a very short life for the Saturn Astra, too, despite it being a good car.
So long as the Euro continues to climb in value against most major currencies and coupled to the high cost of labour in most of Europe, the futre looks pretty limited for the Astra as an export case. Sad.

The ad is VERY poorly done, and stolen from GM in the US who did a similar series of much better Transformers ads. (only the Transformers destroyed the cars, rather than turning into them, and it was actually a tie-in with the movie). Search youtube and you'll find them.
haha no no i actually meant is the commercial made in Australia lol. It's sad but ey that that Holden are importing all these nasty Korean cars. But yeh, even as a Fordie, I can agree the new commie is a nice car:)

It may be their second best seller, but they are not making any profits with it; at least not on the volume variants.
The next generation Astra could very well take a step back as there is talk that the engineering will be performed by GM Daewoo.

It's an Opel, made in Germany.
And it's one of the last Holdens, sold in cooperation with GM Europe since Holden are now selling rebadged Daewoos... :-(
None the less, the new Commodore is awesome!
And it's already available as Daewoo L4X, Chevrolet Lumina SS (UAE), Chevrolet Omega (Brazil), Vauxhall VXR8 (UK) and Pontiac G8 (US).
I'm wondering wether it'll be sold in Germany as well (as an Opel Omega then) :-)
