Worth hearing twice just to log in and say thanks.I was fortunate enough to see Isaac several times. One of the most incredible accoustic performers ever imho. He'd play and sing a different arrangement every single time.A real Unsung hero !!
Great to see him play again thanks for sharing this. People rarely mention the quality of his singing which is effortless and beautifully phrased in any register he chooses.
I don't think anyone has ever done guitar and voice better, with such inventiveness and variety of colour and texture. Great stuff!
Isaac was a very fine musician, but also a wonderful teacher! I went to 2 of his guitar workshops at Cambridge Folk Festival, and always walked away feeling like he'd imparted something very special. He played at Lincoln Folk Festival here in the UK for a number of years. I remember him very well indeed. RIP Isaac: you were one of a kind.
Isaac Stayed with us a couple of times and was a gentleman, a friend and an inperation. through this land of England i am sure there is many a folk club organiser who had the pleasure of isaacs wondeful company and beautiful music......and the strange aroma that drifted from his van. R.I.P Isaac
He WAS the Cambridge Folk Festival for me in my youth. It was never the same without him. Sadly missed. Listening to this did bring back memories of the festival when we would run from the main stage to the club tent just to see him play. Everything after often seemed amateur! RIP
Thanks for posting this! In 1996 I was studying music and got to do assistant engineer at one of his gigs at the Belfast Folk Festival. It was an absolute honour to see him play live, I was mesmerised. He was such a nice guy, I had a really good chat with him afterwords about music and he was so friendly and encouraging. Bless you Isaac, may you R.I.P.
i take it that most of us watching are musos i always struck me that main stream music was so crap and felt lucky to be into this genre of music talented individuals like issac who do it primarily for the love not the money
I had the great pleasure of listening to him play twice at the man on the moon pub in Cambridge in the early 90's. He really blew me away with his impeccable playing and musicianship. He really changed my whole attitude to folk music. As a classical guitarist I thought I knew a lot but after meeting him I realised I missed a hell of a lot!
What an inspiration he was. Wouldn't it be great if someone could one day transcribe his songs! may he long be remembered . (Byron Zeliotis)
I saw Isaac Guillory play in England a many times, mostly at small and often shabby folk clubs. It was always as if you had been invited to his living room to witness a great secret. I could not have been more mesmerised if he had taken a deep breath and levitated infront of my very eyes. An unassumming man of true genius great skill.
Well done on posting this clip. Makes Youtube worth every penny that Google paid for it.

Best version of this song I've heard yet! Kind of a Willy Nelson meets Bruce Cockburn thing. Absolutely perfect, period.

@mercmanfiveoh His version of Dylan's With God on our Side is absolutely stunning.
It's here.I saw him perform it maybe half a dozen times. He was a friend of my uncles.

such a grace in singing it too.
i remember his first album i got in the 70`s..
i knew then, he would make his way in
if only he was left more time in this world, to blow all the other acoustic guitar players..
what a feeling!?

If you go to Hitchin Folk Club their stage Backdrop is a Black and white picture of Isaac..so he's always there.

I envy you guys so much, I'm 19 and never got to see Guillory live, the 'Slow Down' album is easily one of the greatest albums around.

Isaac was the most talented guitarist I ever saw at the Cambridge festival. Even so I had forgotten just how good he was. Thanks for reminding me.
