uh yea just so you know theres 3 parts to america and if your talking U.S. every part has different accents....anyway I love this song and matchbox twenty rules
they're the best band ever..... amazing lyrics and stuff that you can listen to anywhere, anytime... got to sayyy this band's helped my sooo much when I need to think about stuff... love them and this song!
don't feel nothing......pain can exceed the depth of knowing or feeling anything-silences ur thinking....a shot of a good drink...can awake the senses.....to start the feeling of something again..
Lead singer Rob Thomas wrote this after going to the funeral of a 2 1/2-year-old boy named Cody. The little boy was his girlfriend's nephew, and he died after a botched operation. Thomas didn't know the family well, but was very moved by the funeral. There's a picture of Cody inside the album cover to "Yourself or Someone Like You" underneath the additional credits
To all those who believe this song is about an alcoholic really need to brush up on your Matchbox Twenty. This song is about a little boy named Cody. Cody died when he was 2 1/2 years old. Rob paid a tribute to Cody's memory with the song.
i miss matchbox twenty's old GOOD music. like this song for example. its amazing. awsome job on the video btw. ohh, and i have the CD and the lyric thingies say "bottle" not "bible". and honestly dude how can a fucking bible help you at any point in your life?
Kody was not an alcoholic. He was a young boy who was the son of a friend of Rob Thomas' and he died. Rob wrote this song in memory of Kody. PLEASE do not assume that which you do not know.
lmfao ok you ppl come here and fight over whet the lyrics are .. heres an idea look up the officel lyrics maybe buy the cd and look in the book with the lyrics in it or go to a music store with g-tar tabs or sheet music of some kind and look there.
what on earth does the band being from the south have to do with anything and whether youre religious or not when push comes to shove and your lonely the only thing that will fill that hole is Jesus so do youre self good and go to da Bible.
The word is bottle. You have to listen to the song... He says it was clear to all of us, that he kept this hat of broken dreams and he "poured" them out when he needed them around. So please hand me a "bottle" I think I'm lonely now. To not make the connection, you miss the point of the song. It's about an alcoholic.
for all you losers, it's bible. not bottle. yes i know you tried to correct those of us who were right because you thought we were wrong, but seriously, if you're gonna put text up, make sure you get the words right. :)
This song makes the most sense for anyone who has been there. The "bottle" kills what we don't want to feel anymore. For me it's war, but it will mean something different for everybody.
It's always been "Please hand me the bottle". I'm a Matchbox 20 and Nirvana junkie so I know all the lyrics to their songs, as I listen to them all the time.
in the first chorus it sounds like bible... in the 2nd its obviously bottle... im checking again but maybe he stutterd or maybe the drums kicked in at the right momemt and distorted it... or maybe he says bible the first time... i think its bottle though...
This song is about one of Mari's young relations who died, Rob went to this little boys funeral and he got all emotional so it inspired him to write this song.
Lead singer Rob Thomas wrote this after going to the funeral of a 2 1/2-year-old boy named Cody. The little boy was his girlfriend's nephew, and he died after a botched operation. Thomas didn't know the family well, but was very moved by the funeral. There's a picture of Kody inside the album cover to "Yourself or Someone Like You" underneath the additional credits
I read that in some interview rob mentioned that it was about a little kid named Kody. He was his girlfriends nephew and he died after surgery complications and even though he really didnt know him that well he wrote this song after his funeral. I guess there's a picture of Kody in the slip cover of this cd. I just heard the story today and havent had a chance to look at it yet. Side note though saw them in concert last night and they were just as good in concert as on a record.
That's what made me think it was about an alcoholic. Maybe, he using the bottle as both a symbol of drinking and dreams at the same time. and broken glass is symbolic of broken dreams. Maybe he's saying not to dwell there, Cadillacs are show cars. hmm I'd imagine he means not to make a show of the sadness. but, that's just a guess.
Its about his father...he talks about he can hear the gate squeaking to know when "he comes home" and the silence awful sound its just about his father and he doesnt want to feel anything...
sometimes good songs become unenjoyable after reading comments and sometimes the comments add to the song .. as for this song i enjoyed it much more b4 reading the bs some of you wrote.
This song is not about someone killing themself! This song is about a little boy that died from surgery complications that Rob knew personally. The song is how the Mother feels about losing her child. It has NOTHING to do with being an alcholic. Listen to it again and picture yourself as the Mother and see how the words are perfect. She has no ambition for life since she lost her child! The Hat of broken dreams and bottle are just "memories" that they hold on to! Think about it!
it seems more fitting for an alcoholic. If kody is the name of the boy, it wouldnt make any sense in your explanation. "kody sat down on the avenue and tapped his feet to the hummin of the highway, he watched the light shine down on the broken glass, and thought well i dont got no reasons yet, and there it is and there it was". that doesnt make any sense to tie to a little boy.
Man.....THIS SONG MAKES ME FEEL LIKE CRAP!But I still listen to it and feel sorry for myself.HOWEVER...........I love Matchbox 20..............lotsssssssssssssssssssssssssss
this song was written after Rob Thomas attended a funeral for a 2 1/2 year old boy who passed away named Kody. Also, Kody's picture can be found on the jacket for the CD

Hmm...always like this song
i see it a song about either a alchoholic...and or a singer(kody)or band who lost their dream of becoming famous..
only part that confuses me is the ended when he says
"Don't get off on all the broken glass, the cadillac scene,
Well
I've seen a lot of good things die and I'm
In an over emotional way"
hmmmm
