I don't really think that this movie is for people that already watched the original series and the sequels to it. I remember watching star trek reruns as a little girl and this movie really disappointed me.
This movie is horrible! Magic boxes for turbo lifts, Black holes switch from worm holes to black holes, emotionless aliens more emotional than humans, a cadet with a criminal record makes captain of the flag ship over night, and a villain so stupid he does not realize that old Spock was trying to help and that he can get his revenge by giving his warrior race of people his advanced technology. "I've seen better film in a shower" Waldorf in The Muppet Movie.

It got all the characters right, the story is exactly like the comic book series and it added a new dimension to the character by giving him a nephew who looks up to him. Star Trek (XI) just needed some extra sex scenes and then it would be a half decent Soft Porno.

Some scenes have light sources that come from no ware; maybe they’re there to cover up microphones. It has massive plot holes and the ending is so stupid it gave me a migraine, or was it the lens flares I’m not sure. "Batman & Robin" was a better movie. "Freeze you lattAr" (Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze.)

Star Trek is now my favourite movie of all time. I mean I am not a trekkie, but this movie was amazing. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto were amazing and all of the co stars were really amazing too.

@tlyoung88 We do... at school, but we have other thing of our generation to read, and other stuff we like. I read a lot when I was 10, and now i'm 19 and read a few good things. As a kid I liked Harry Potter (It helped develop love for reading) I also read the Lord of the Rings, read one Jules Vernes .... I think the literature's in evolution and it's not bad... I mean, I know the old Star Trek were a lot more scientific, but I don't think the new movie is THAT bad. it's just... different.
Didn't think I would, But I definitely enjoyed the movie. It was very easy to follow and was very entertaining. It had comedy(10/10), action, and romance. I liked the actors and the plots. I never saw any other Star Trek stuff but I'd definitely like to see another. 9/10 movie.
First let me start by saying I am a Star Trek Nerd. I gave this movie an 8. It was good, but I could not stand the Uhura-Spock relationship. Also, the villain is very forgettable.
Leonard Nimoy was great, naturally. Karl Urban was awesome too, they should have had more scenes with him.
I agree...especially about Karl Urban. his take on McCoy was just bliss to behold. Urban's voice, body language, the way he spoke his lines...God was he a smartass.
He was channelling DeForrest Kelly. I am sure of it.
That said, this film helped save the Star Trek franchise. JJ did a magnificent job.
well i think they're trying to show how events can really change a person. In the show he had excepted a Vulcan way of life, so they're trying to do a "what if" scenario where its like "what would spock had been life if decided to be more human?" because of his human side, its harder for him to hide his huge expanse of vulcan emotions... so its whatever, but i like it.
I think Spock was pretty much as original-Spock would have been in that time. We always heard about him having troubles in youth, and there were plenty of emotional outbreaks in the series. It's just that in the series he's older by then and more controlled. THEN > add to that (a) losing his homeworld & mom, and (b) future spock encouraging him to be more balanced and there you go. He'll probably become more logical in the future films still :)
it was ok i guess i mean it was not as consistent in some ways for example it shows all of kirk's crew serving under pike which before this had never happend they could have recast some of the people from the cage that would have helped and chekov was there when he did not come along till season 2 in the show
Nothing lame about this movie, i've seen it 3 times now. Romance, comedy, a good plot, special effects, emotional rollercoaster, great cast. The movie kicked butt.
Riker was incredibly boring. He had potential in the begining of the series, but then he turned to a very, very, dull and pale shadow of kirk.... without all the drama.
Sisko was a decent character, but the actor who played him was a little wooden. At times he was interesting, but it never lasted.
Picard was an excellent, and interesting character, with an actor that played up the role very well (cerebral, and authoritative to a fault captain).

Yeah I hated the show, my dad would always watch it and I begged him to change. I thought I'd give it one more chance and I anded up loving the movie.
Spock prime wins hands down for 1) vocal quality and 2) hair cut. But....new Spock has a wicked temper! Don't ever talk about his mamma so...whatever! Kinda cool.

I loved the movie. But if you're going to see Star Trek, meaning the franchise, or the world, you'll probably be disappointed.
This new movie is like Enterprise x 10. It's all sex, action, and violence. The small plot or story thrown about is barely noticeable.
However, It being a movie, it gives a lot of non-fans a chance to see. AND they actually made it a _good_ action thriller, better than most of us hoped for.
Overall it was definitely worth the small change to go see!

I think it was a great movie. But some common sense things sort of stuck out to me. Like how Kirk came to become captain like.. before he even graduated the Academy. It really makes no sense. And some of the dialogue was REALLY over-dramatic at some points and sort of pulled me out of the movie. But it's a great success to bringing a dead franchise back to life, so kudos to that.

I thought Spock and Uhura had good chemistry onscreen ... I got the sense that Uhura could handle Spock's moods in a way that most women could not.

That said, this film helped save the Star Trek franchise. JJ did a magnificent job.

well i think they're trying to show how events can really change a person. In the show he had excepted a Vulcan way of life, so they're trying to do a "what if" scenario where its like "what would spock had been life if decided to be more human?" because of his human side, its harder for him to hide his huge expanse of vulcan emotions... so its whatever, but i like it.

I think Spock was pretty much as original-Spock would have been in that time. We always heard about him having troubles in youth, and there were plenty of emotional outbreaks in the series. It's just that in the series he's older by then and more controlled. THEN > add to that (a) losing his homeworld & mom, and (b) future spock encouraging him to be more balanced and there you go. He'll probably become more logical in the future films still :)

it was ok i guess i mean it was not as consistent in some ways for example it shows all of kirk's crew serving under pike which before this had never happend they could have recast some of the people from the cage that would have helped and chekov was there when he did not come along till season 2 in the show

Riker was incredibly boring. He had potential in the begining of the series, but then he turned to a very, very, dull and pale shadow of kirk.... without all the drama.
Sisko was a decent character, but the actor who played him was a little wooden. At times he was interesting, but it never lasted.
Picard was an excellent, and interesting character, with an actor that played up the role very well (cerebral, and authoritative to a fault captain).

I loved the movie. But if you're going to see Star Trek, meaning the franchise, or the world, you'll probably be disappointed.
This new movie is like Enterprise x 10. It's all sex, action, and violence. The small plot or story thrown about is barely noticeable.
However, It being a movie, it gives a lot of non-fans a chance to see. AND they actually made it a _good_ action thriller, better than most of us hoped for.
Overall it was definitely worth the small change to go see!

I think it was a great movie. But some common sense things sort of stuck out to me. Like how Kirk came to become captain like.. before he even graduated the Academy. It really makes no sense. And some of the dialogue was REALLY over-dramatic at some points and sort of pulled me out of the movie. But it's a great success to bringing a dead franchise back to life, so kudos to that.
