The issue here WHEN does it become haraam or halaal.

This issue also involves intentions, the current situation and place of where the voting where be held and who are the politicians.

i think to even believe that you're making a difference by voting in their system is pretty hilarious. now if you vote for some dude with balls of a real man who stands up for what is morally right, like prohibiting evil practices that consume our everyday society, then that is a good thing. but other than that, its pretty pointless to vote. better off not supporting the cause by not voting. its bad enough you have to live in such a country.

Wait a minute. Didn't the SAHABA (not "shahaba") convene in mosques and make group-based decisions? Sounds dangerously close to DEMOCRACY to me!

So is democracy okay if it's carried out in mosques? How about if we set up polling stations at masjids? Sounds ok, right? Otherwise, maybe Allah isn't as "pleased" with them as you'd like to believe.

Perhaps you are speaking about the notion of shura and not democracy? Democracy is 'for the people, by the people' whereas Islam is 'for the people, by Allah (al-Hakim)'. So the two are not reconcilable since one is consultation upon Islam, whilst the other is a system that emanates from the desires of the people.

Democracy is kufr, and in general voting is not permissible, but according to scholars if the interests of muslims is at stake, then this is a matter subject to ijtihaad.
