@mrmarmalademan It was from a old short film about the Prohibition era, probably footage of a Speakeasy I think. I slowed it down a bit to fit in with the beat of the song.
Still a rare accomplishment from anything else that's been done before or after it dropped. I also can't think of anything either of these talented artists have done that matches the innovative, ground breaking use of samplings as lead vocals on the tracks here. The music has that metallic edge, and the new world beats they employed..one has to remember there was nothing like this before.
...or since!
America is waiting for someone to make music like this again.
Just discovered My life in the Bush of Ghosts - excellent album. Every track is brilliant! Going out to find the book which inspired Eno & Byrne for myself. Thanks for creating these vid, love the visuals :)
Could have done w/o the 'I hate bush' post @ 2:09 considering obama is waving the flag these days and doesn't seem to be any different than the others. Just sayin...
Appears that Oliver Stone has a thing for Byrne/Eno. I just realized this was in the original "Wall Street" movie from the 80's. last week I went to see "Wall Street Money Never Sleeps" and the opening song was another Byrne/Eno tune called Home which is an amazing song. Thanx for the upload, Oldfinger. You did an amazing job!
@MagneticJuggalo Ok.ok lol I understand your point... I Just love them and specially this record but there are other opinions, other music tastes lol We have to respect...
@InvisibleMasquerade Hi invisiblemasquerade, they're pentangles, supposed by many to have mystical properties, and the 5 points are thought of as having a special quality (5 being a prime, also representing the senses - and so on). I am not impuning any link whatsoever with out great Lord and Master Be'elzebub, halowled be His filthy name.
I keep reading that this album was released in 1981, but my vinyl copy of it is dated 1979.
I've also got 2 versions on CD - one with both Very Very Hungry and Qu'ran on it, and the 25th anniversary edition. One of the best albums ever made. And an excellent video!

My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts really go my attention when it was released in '81. Acid for the ears. Great job on this video! Way more than a collection of short takes, fits the video very well.
Excellent- I am getting bored with PhotoShop would love to move into moving images, and am not quite a fan of Flash YET-- the Actionscript part stumped me! Rahter just do editing without CODES- this is GREAT! THANK YOU! I LOVE your history lessons BTW!
@HeidiIvy Oh I don't know anything about the hard stuff like Flash. I just use the easiest thing I can get my hands on that does what i want it to do!!! Thanks again OF x
@0ldfinger Oh I hear yah- I am so happy there are easier programs out there! YEAH! Thank to you and KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! The Emphemera ( I can not spell either- ha) is soo potent! Great job, realllly! I use vintage images I find in my work as well. The whole time passing quickly and CHANGE is all around, theme is tremendous! Cheers to you again!
@HeidiIvy I think this one must have been Ulead. Sometimes I use Corel video studio but this one is quite heavily edited and treated and usually Ulead stands up that that better....:)
@0ldfinger yes i know i found it today :) i was looking for an original video & i thought that this is the version from 1982. but later i found this one of bruce conner. anyway great work!
Remember, this was all analog: tape loops, live drum tracks (or percussion beds built from multiple overdubs), and timing stuff by ear instead of by digital timestamps. It is as impressive now as it was when in came out.
As far as pioneering experimental music goes My life in the bush of ghosts is fucking GOD! , there has never been a better album before or after this one. And I reckon it's the best thing Eno or Byrne have ever done, including all their other projects.
hey hey! fucking great vid, Mort*****! I love that album..it's actually the only Dave Byrne thing I like...well, I do quite like a coupla the early tunes like that Love building a fire one...I'm gonna dig out that Ghosts album right now, thanks...that Jezabel Spirit, that's the one I used to play alla the time..XXX
Thanks so much - you are far too kind as usual! It was hard to finish it as I kept adding more & more crap to it until I began to forget what I was doing in the first place!!
Was wondering when Oldfinger was going to post again! Nice vid. I see you found a video of Professor Farquharson (sp?)on the 'Galloping Gertie' Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
He went out 3 times to rescue a dog in a car on the bridge. Dog kept biting him. He finally gave up. Pooch took a dive when the central span collapsed.
Great stuff, really synced in with the music. I thought for a minute it was a comtemporaneous video, then I saw Chucky!
