Some of you guys crack me up! This is not a competition! What if we lived in a world where all the greatest trumpet players sounded the same. Wynton is good at what he does, so is Roger, Arturo and so on... Do you get it? All these guys are different players but still world class. Wynton is not my cup of tea as I would prefer to listen to Maynard. My personal taste. Not a reflection on Wynton. They are both in a class by themselves. Enjoy music! Not tear down each other. End of rant!
It seems that most players spoecialise to a greater or lesser degree. This solo (if it IS allowable to categorise) would fit clearly into the 'high note specialist' genre. On that thinking it would be justifiable in comparing one high note player's offerings with another. Personally I wouldn't rate Wynton Marsalis a high note player (and I am not attaching a VALUE judgement to that) The Cat, Maynard, Faddis, Sandoval, and James Morrison maybe do fit the bill though.
@Cadilacdude1975 you are very small minded if you think that. Runyon is a very talented trumpet player, and is definetly the most versatile trumpet player out there, but most talented is a stretch. There are are people who are more dedicated to a specific genre and are better in that area than Wynton.
Rogder ingram is in the top 5 trumpet players in the world right now. It goes ingram, Bobby Shew, John Faddis, Arturo Sandoval, Greg Gisbert, and Byron Stripling is in there too.
@saseako You're seriously fucked. "It goes..." What the fuck is that? I love how you think you can just rate them like show horses. If that's all music is to you, then you're fucking clueless. Oh, and I guess you're the expert who orgainzes the world of music for us all. Thank god you're around. Why do people think they have the knowedge or need to tell the world how to organize itself?

Wynton Marsalis is the best of the past 35 years. other notables are Wayne Bergeron, Doc Severinson, The Boss Maynard and Arturo.
there is not a trumpet player out there that comes close to the overall ability of Wynton. i dont care who argues what and with names.

i love how ingram crucifies the sound filter on your camera... anytime he plays everything else gets way softer...

You do realize that this "trumpet man" is the lead player for Harry Connick Jr.'s jazz orchestra right? Everyone cracks a note now and then....

It must be nice to be able to lay out for half the chart in order to play a few unmusical high notes!
