Actually Tom welling and Michael Rosenbaum write most of the episodes, they introduce Lois early because in the original superman comics he talks about lois from his child hood. They get together in season 7 when Lana isnt heard from!

The writers must have had a brain freeze when they decided to bring Lois on the show. Hello Clark is suppossed to love Lois from the moment they meet, not have this dumb love/hate thing going on like on Smallville.
