thank you so much for making this, this is one of my favorite poems and how appropriately set to a tribute to our troops, my son is a marine serving in Afghanistan right now and this was such an inspiration to me , thank you
I simply think that those who do not agree with what the military men and woman stand for each day should stand their coward selves in their way instead of seeing it necessary to even speak down on them. Just my opinion

How disappointing that people take their own narrow ideologies and project them onto a lovely poem that was not meant to serve such notions. Kipling is rolling in his grave.
"Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism — how passionately I hate them! " - Albert Einstein.
Is it you that is being narrow minded? It is a poem....it is up to the reader how they vision what the content means( unless we have Kipling here to provide us his exact intent). Are you really telling me, by your comment, that every person sees the world as you do? I suggest that you give your "narrow idealogies " a rest! Who the hell are you to be telling everyone what Kipling would think or want.....how full of yourself!!!! and on that point....give it a rest!!!
@BigMojoDevil Einstein was no Kipling. Nothing against Einstein, but his genius did not allow him to occupy the world the rest of us inhabit. Kipling was a "man's man". Kipling's own son was gunned down in the killing fields of WWI. Such dark irony there. However, make no mistake that Kipling wrote of a 19th century notion of manliness. You're free to disagree with his notion, but don't misrepresent it.
This isnt a channel where you can come and post your anti American rhetoric. So fuck off. Anyone else that is here to show respect, much love. This is a great video.
And also: war is the worst thing on Earth. there's no any normal mortal who likes it, BUT... When there's a dangerous enemy attacking you, you've got no time to think. Act - or die. And give respect. Believe me, you don't know how MUCH job war is.
Although the intentions are good, its all one big blind fold put on each and everyone of use not only by the U.S. but by all other major countries that are considered a power house. They use little things to play the strings they need, to do what it is they want to do. Many people are blind by what these things are...just open your eyes and see the big picture. the PENAC report will do such...
Amen. It's quite odd - and not a little pathetic - that the author of this video found parallels between this poem and the US war machine. There may be nobility and good intentions in some soldiers individually, but much of it is blind mass murder in the name of warped patriotism and geopolitical dogma. Of course, one cannot expect lowest common denominator folk to have the self-awareness to separate the poem's sentiment with cheap troop sentimentality.
For every US flag waving in the wind in slo-mo, I can give you 20 examples of mindless, unforgivable havoc created by soldiers who are uneducated, extremist, low class murderers of innocents who hardly understand or question what they do because they aren't capable of sophisticated thought. This lowbrow "theyre fighting for our freedoms" fluff. I may be generalizing but it's truer than the jarring comparison to Kipling's poem. Where did this country take such a spectacular cultural wrong turn?
Um... you're operating from an outdated perspective of the military. Maybe 30-40 years ago uneducated, extremist, low class, and incapable of sophisticated thought was accurate. But, that's not today's military. Yes, it's still in transition from that world of unquestioning obedience; however, it has reached the tipping point and today's soldier is expected to think, reason, judge, and act accordingly. And, he/she is held accountable for all his/her actions. Today's military of individual...
Today's military is one of individual responsibility... and, the standard for conduct is much higher than for the regular American citizen. Yes, some soldiers don't adhere to these standards, but those soldiers are also punished for their actions. That said, you (and I) may not agree with the decisions our politicians make, i.e. the US "war machine", etc. But, YOU have as much power to change that as any soldier does. In fact, you have MORE power, because you won't lose your job for speaking out
So, if you'd like to see a change in that domain, I'd say you might look to yourself on that one... and, integrate a little of your own self-awareness into your thinking (and speaking).
Great video, this is the way our military truly is, not the way the media depicts it to be. The focus on so much of the negative to sell stories and not enough on how great our soldiers actually are. I am currently a Cadet at the USAF Academy and, even though I am not out in the mainstream military, like to thank you for this video.
Thousand of american soldiers died for my brothers, the kurds, helping to create The kurdistan government in North Iraq. I will never forget the people who made possible such a thing, an independent region without Sadam. These soldiers will never be forgotten. Never!
GOD BLESS AMERICA! GOD BLESS ALL OUR SOLDIERS! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR FREEDOM! WE ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL! GOD BLESS ALL YOUR LOVED ONES! signed.. A GRATEFUL AMERICAN!
Why oh why can't the main scream news media have the same feeling about our BRAVE military that this video shows. The wonderful joy and honor of our military shown in this video makes me feel so proud to be a AMERICAN. I wish i could explain all the feelings this video has me feeling. Makes me think that back in WW2 times both news press and hollywood carried the same feelings about our military that this video shows. SCREW todays news media and hollyweird. They make my blood boil!
I am thankful for all who so BRAVELY serve in the BEST military there is. You will always be remembered and never forgotten. YOU ARE THE BEST. This video is excellent , beyond 5 stars. Oh how i wish this was on t.v..
I think there are very few men who read 'If' who do not secretly hope that they have lived up to its code. My grandfather, a WW1 veteran, could quote Kipling. And my father, a Royal Marine Commando, carried a copy of Kipling's poems, including 'If, across Europe in 1944-45. That same battered copy is now in my bedside table and when things get rough I turn to the words of that poem.
I am not American - but my thoughts are with the ordinary American soldiers serving in Iraq. God be with you.
You hear of only the bad a lot od times. You don't hear the good very often. You can't pentilize the whole military on the action of one bad apple. The military is still an honor to be in and still an admirable profession.
The U.S. military's conduct is virtuous. 100,000 good and you hear of one bad. If only you walked among them, you would be astounded that people of their nature exist and live to fight the battle so others can be free. All humans have the right to be free. Freedom is worth the struggle. Those who think that it's not have never lived without it.
This is absolutely brilliant! I think that by using text rather than a voice over allows the music to play a more prominent part and set the tone. Really well done !!

"If" Перевод М. ЛОЗИНСКОГО
Владей собой среди толпы смятенной,
Тебя клянущей за смятенье всех,
Верь сам в себя, наперекор вселенной,
И маловерным отпусти их грех;
Пусть час не пробил, жди, не уставая,
Пусть лгут лжецы, не снисходи до них;

Long periods of boredom...punctuated by moments of adrenalin rushes.
This is what our brave warriors in the Armed Services endure on our behalf.
They have my undying gratitude.
Kipling's timeless words ring true for every generation:
"If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,"
...And the media knaves engage in this practice on a worldwide scale now.
Excellent video!
