  • beautiful

  • I think Jupiter and Saturn are the best planetary sights to be had even in the smallest of telescopes.

  • Still waiting for the music to be identified........

  • I still love this video. Such an amazing sequence set to perfect music. Last year I was at an astronomy club dark site looking at the night sky and I couldn't get this song out of my head.

  • 0.09 you can see a reflection of tfoot,i looks super spooky :D

  • A lovely video Thunderf00t! Thumbs up and favorite.

  • @QuantumQuacks Where did the original matters/particles/whatever come about without some intelligent being living another dimension. All I'm saying is I don't believe in your conventional "God". I believe their is a God out their, but he too makes mistakes. We were probably just one of many projects throughout this universe. If you are correct though and the big bang "theory" is found to be true supported by evidence it will change my outlook on life in a negative way :P

  • That was great.

  • I can't see all of this happening on accident, there has to be an intelligent being out their. I don't believe in Jesus Christ but I do believe there is a higher power somewhere

  • The Universe is just beautiful...

  • thats awesome man! where can i get that telescope?

  • @ronny4ever123 For the low, low price of $1,000,000.

    These telescopes aren't bullshit telescopes.

  • @ronny4ever123

For a non-joke answer: It looks like a Celestron CPC of some size or another. They are far from a million bajillion dollars. One will likely set you back about $2000 for smaller model. If you are looking for something nice that isn't as expensive, try looking at the nexstar series. For planetary viewing the results will probably be fairly similar to what Thunderf00t's got going on.

  • @DeepSpaceBeans its the cpc1100

  • Wow!

  • Song: Eternity by Orion (original acoustic mix)

  • Sorry Thunderf00t, you have undermined you whole position. I clearly saw the image of Jesus looking down on your scope during pretty much the WHOLE video.

  • Little God-Hating snit.

  • WOW ! beautiful

  • That sends shivers down my spine, awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing this with us (especially since Jupiter is my favourite planet :P)

  • what time interval did you take these?

  • Shag - if he took the images through any sort of telescope, the picture would be flipped (like in a mirror) and upside down.

  • Wait - Jupiter appears to rotate right to left. I thought it rotated left to right?? Same as Earth.

  • jupiter rotates backwards

uranus at 90 degrees from its supposed plane

these are the only two planets that are an exception to the rotation direction in our solar system

  • it's actually Uranus and Venus, Jupiter rotates them same as the others.

  • Oh now that was just COOL. Congrats on making such a remarkable video!!!

  • what music?

  • I mean what IS the music playing?

  • What is this soundtrack called?

  • thanks for this Thunderf00t. An interest in the beautiful sky above is one i hope we can all share.

  • Thunderf00t, I am repeatedly impressed by your ability to provoke emotions using video and music.

  • All you kids hanging onto thunderf00t's trouser leg watching this video and enjoying it, are not learning anything watching it. There is no intellectual content to it at all. That's why there's the silly music.. to keep you interested, to keep your dropout-teenage-like brains active.

  • We dont need to be learning all the time mr Dedicated nerd. Sometimes, its good just to enjoy something. Come on, i know its not educational, but its still beautiful.

  • Cool Thanks Tunderf00t! More please?

  • awesome :)

  • Holy shit, this is too awesome. Tf00t is the best.

  • TF, that was amazing.

  • Awe, wow that was so pretty.

  • Jupiter was a gas planet right? and wasnt that big red spot pretty recent (like say, a decade or so ago?) Meteor impact?

  • Was? It's still a gas giant. The great red spot is a storm which has lasted at least ~180 years (and is likely older than that).

  • great vid what equipment is he using?

  • Stunning as always, sir.

  • Mindblowing.

  • You don't see HowTheWorldWorks doing that!

  • tf00t = god!

  • Mind = blown thanks for sharing

  • Thunderfoot pointing out something this beautiful makes me liken you to one of my personal heroes who loved to find beauty in the natural world. Mr. Richard Feynman.

    Bravo man, Bravo.

  • Amazing... Fabulous... Mind-blowing!

Nature at its finest, displayed for all through the wonders of modern internet technology.

    Thank you.

  • I wish my Newtonian wasn't broken.

Jupiter is my favourite planet to observe. Saturn has nothing on it. Rings, pffft. Give me the Great Red Spot and the cloud bands on Jupiter any day.

  • Reality is awesome.

  • Now that's a great comment ! :)

  • What telescope do you use?

  • Yes, could you (Thunderf00t) post the full specs of the telescope, magnification, and optics, please?

  • Wow, I enjoyed just looking at all the stars in that footage, the close up of Jupiter+moons was a superb bonus!

By the way, what's the crazy white hoobajoob you've got zipping back and fourth? A tourch? At first I thought it was lightening and had no idea what I was looking at, then worked out the red nebulonic blur was in fact your good self...

  • Very nice work. The year of astronomy is drawing to a close though. :-(

  • Nice capture, thunderf00t. I took my 8" newtonian underneath Wyoming's skies tonight. Jupiter was rather prominent. Also saw m81 &82, always a treat, saw the ring nebula, which was almost at zenith, m13 was lovely as always, and also captured a 26mm eyepiece full of absolutely beutiful blue stars somewhere in the milky way band around aquila. It was absolutely gorgeous. Then the moon came up, and washed away my night vision. The red color of the moon at horizon was definately worth it!

  • Sweet video!

  • godidit.

  • the cosmos is our next step in this time for coming

  • "Most of us?" Speak for yourself, I thought it was fascinating.

  • you had jupiter displayed north side down...

  • Relation of yourself to earth will dictate which way is up.

So if you are in the northern Hemisphere and take a photo of Jupiter relative to the horizon. . then travel to the southern hemisphere and do the same you will find that North and top are relative terms.

The earth is round and views of the stars relative to the horizon will vary.

  • I saw Jupiter a few nights ago. I caught a very good view of it and the Galilean moons. Best fucking night all week

  • & and nice groove, who wrote that one?

  • simply amazing!

  • What's with the lightings?

  • What jaccoburger said! Stunning and creative!

  • A 72 seconds masterpiece made of pure awesome! Congratulations, Thunderf00t. You have outdone yourself. The universe, yours to discover... I never realised how cool that motto is! Gosh, I need to get rid of that adrenaline....

  • freaking awesome.

  • More videos like this!

    Subscribed!

  • Beautiful isn't it...

  • btw - I was referring to jameshanley's comment. The video is awesome!

  • Fantastic video, anyone know what the music is ?

  • Beautiful video. I was one of a number of people who sent this to the badastronomer - very pleased you got a mention from him!

  • That was pretty awesome, Thunderf00t.

  • Hi, i was wondering camera you used to film this.

  • Cool stuff and a mention on Bad Astronomy. Cheers!

  • Loved it!

  • I'll answer your question - yes. And you are completely missing the point. If as you suggest it appeals to the masses then it may well inspire others to go on to things much grander than spelling bees.

  • Your superiority complex is making a douche bag out of you again. That gross generalization of "the masses'" psyche is so laughably idiotic that it completely undermines the fact that you managed to spell your words right. Get off your fucking pedestal...

And on a more cheerful note, great video! It actually didn't show up in my subscription box, so luckily I saw it on Bad Astronomy.

  • It is not boring because it is the truth, you little idiot. IF you were living in the 13'th century, you wouldn't find it boring at all. You would've still believe that the earth is flat and it's in the center of the universe.

  • Big Idiot/PlaguedMan, we are not living in the 13th century.

  • I said if you WERE living. I assumed we were. I think that the big idiot is you, kid.

  • PlaguedMan, You assumed wrong. But if your assumption was correct, then you would also think the earth was flat.

  • Of course, because the religion was the only silly answer back then. Today, it is obviously not, since we reached the moon.

  • Excellent, TF

  • Buying a telescpoe is one of my dreams. Still the one waiting to be realized.

  • poor seeing

  • You are amazing. I've never seen anything like this before. Can you do more planets? Please!

  • Thank you so much for these videos

  • Soo...Is Thunderf00t an astronomer?

  • I'd call him a polymath; one whose expertise is in many subjects.

And rightly so, for he is an all-around genius.

  • I've gotta say, his videos have inspired me to go into science for college. Which one? Who knows? I just want to know more now.

  • I know what you mean. I want to go into a science - mainly biology/chemistry - and just learn the shit out of anything I can find XD

  • Question. Those 2 objects going behind Jupiter. Are they moons, or are they stars ?

  • Most likely moons, but I could be wrong.

  • You are!

  • The two largest moons of jupiter, Ganymede and Callisto.

  • I don't think so. The orbital periods of those moons are 7 and 16 earth days, respectively. Jupiter does have a satellite with a period of .4-.5 earth days, however, it would be too small to see with that telescope. Its something like 150x100x91 miles.

  • Fantastic video! I shall share that with my 10-yr old daughter later. Truly inspiring.

  • i was just looking at Jupiter through my own telescope. Mines not as good but its powerful enough that i can see the striped looking atmosphere. i need a better one.

  • WOW!! Simply stunning!

  • awe inspiring!! thank you for the vid :D

  • The universe sure is awesome!

  • Awesome.

    I envy your telescope.

  • can anyone compress their fucking videos dammit!!!!

  • Where can find this beat, this sound? Somebody help me please..

    Nice vid Tf00t!

  • corny

  • corny , yeah ..until you walk outside, look up and actually see jupiter........4th brightest object in the night sky

  • FACE, the spinal frontier.

  • Thanks TF, another WinRAR vid.

  • Epic and wonderful! Thanks Thunderf00t

  • Really sucks when you live in the middle of a populated area, the light pollution drowns out all the stars and planets :(

  • this is the international year of astronomy?! nobody told me!!! whats next year?

  • the international year of the strap-on, should be a bit more colourful than astronomy, :p

  • the international year of gastronomy

  • this is spectacular :')

  • wow :D

  • wow, nice telescope and nice timecapture.

Are those things expensive by the way?

  • nor for me

  • Awesome vid Tf00t

  • What scope is that? looks like a Meade, LX200?

  • Wonderful!

  • its beautifull

  • Hooray no more stupid arguments with stupid people, I can watch again.

  • Great Piece... On another note, I hope Mount Wilson is OK!!!

  • Watch for the two moons passing behind the planet....Just...friggin...beutiful.

    Thank you Tfoot

  • Simply beautiful.

  • Epic

  • Awesome!

  • i loves it

  • Epic.

  • wicked hawt!

  • 5 stars as always. Thank T-Foot!

  • Thats a legit video

  • Awesome video!

  • But the earth is flat (doesn't rotate) and it is the center of the universe (Jupiter rotates around us). Also Jupiter, the Gas giant, is a cosmic fart which is symbolize by the blowing of the ram's horn. Take that science!

  • Amazing!

  • Sad news for astronimers @ Mt. Wilson : mtwilson [dot] edu/fire.php

  • simply amazing, can we go there now please?

  • cool man

  • Thank you Tf00t. Amazing video.

  • That was absolutely spectacular. 5 stars and shared with my friends.

  • Google "Celestia software".

    Y que lo disfrutes

  • You certanly don´t speak for me.

  • awesome dood. 5 stars

  • That was really beautiful Tfoot. You do make the most amazing videos!

  • Comment removed

  • Thank You

  • thunderf00t is god, dont be so stupid.

  • I don't get what the problem is, he's simply promoting astronomy and for people to take interest in it because the places outside our world are truly magnificent.

  • You sir, need to remove your personal bias when you sit down to watch a video. Unless you wish to continue being regarded as an abject moron.

  • Satan will rule and you shall perish in eternal flame! MUAHAHAHA

  • Cool video, I wish we could have seen the moons come from behind the planet on the other side. :-)

  • Very nice... I was a little hesitant at first, but then it all came together. Beautifully edited into a seemless, time-lapse video. This is exactly the kind of real-life video that needs to be compiled into a teaching database. There's nothing the human brain comprehends more easily and readily then visual information.

    Bravo.

  • One of your best

  • And who says science can't be art!

  • This gave me chills. Stunning.

  • I actually did this the weekend before last

  • do some of jupiters satelites move counterways to others?

  • Yes. The outer moons almost all revolve counter to the rotation of the planet. They are probably captured asteroids and not "native".

  • thanks do the inner moons move with the direction of rotation. its just that i thought i saw a moon moving opposit to the others but it might have been an artifact of the lenses.

  • The moons to the left were moving to the back of the planet while the one to the right was moving to the front. That may be why you thought they were moving in different directions.

  • The inner moons all move in direction of the planet's rotation. I think you were seeing an optical illusion.

  • That was beaustiful, Thunderf00t.

  • what is this i dont even

  • Excellent f00tage!!

  • Gorgeous!

  • Fucking surreal. Well done.

  • I looked at saturn with binoculars once I thought I could make out the ring. But I couldn't see Rhea (my favourite celestial body which I want to build a base on).

  • Beautiful... Nice video too!

  • I thought this was great...it's nice to see a planet like that.

    It's amusing isn't it :)

  • this is insane !! the earth is not moving !! it stands still in the center of the universe !! pff.. read the bible !! XD just joking ofcourse :p , anyway , great video ! beautiful site of jupiter and it's satelites ! if you can , i'dd really love to see how mercury is seen with you're telescope one day .. i allways try to catch it , but i can't manage to get nothing good with my telescope... the two far far ice giants would be nice too , Uranus and Neptun..

  • The earth has wheels, so it can move about

  • What is the magnification on the telescope?
