i know a place like this, lagoon within a sea. such a beautiful piece to see. I am from de philippines and we have 7107 islands to choose from. ItsmorefuninthePhilippines :)
@gazel429 Funny. I'd read somewhere that Alex Garland (the author of book "the beach") said that he got the inspiration to write the book when he was travelling in the Philippines :)
@MrJamixe oh yeah thats really true, i have read that too, i think he stayed in Palawan (part of the philippines, similar to the beach of Thailand where " the beach " was filmed but its more desserted and less touristy) for 2years, so he got a very nice inspiration to write a book because the place is really stunning.
man I remember downloading this off of Napster, errrrrr!! I used to love it though cuz their was no real way to know what you were getting and you would have to wait till the song was done downloading and then surprise, man I had a huge collection of all the best DJ's and I loved this song soooo much. I listened to it so much it was such in inspirational song!! I remember playing it in the car on my stereo and when ppl would hear it they would be mesmerized. "WHO IS THIS??" ppl would ask.
@cityguy82london I pondered that many-a-years... So far, my only solutions is to "create my OWN capital (to stave-off & become invincible vs volatile market forces)", and to "jam effervescent tunes, like Orbital's "Beached"". Just try ta create some kind of paradisal theory, live it, and see what happens :I
I was in the car with a bunch of random gangster dudes and this came on shuffle ... you should of seen there faces... and by the end ... haha their dissposition on life had changed ... thought they were seeing jesus... good times *( yes they were high as shit)
I just wanted to note my appreciation of this great Orbital track but after reading the comments think I better mention that I trained for years as a bassoonist and on the piano and have sung in too many choirs to list and since a young age have enjoyed Orbital tunes, seen them live three times, and think that if anyone can do better there's a lot of money to be made out there. Personally I think they are at the top of their game and far from mediocre.
WTF man, the top comments have no relation to how Godly this song is. I fuken love this song, the movie, Leo as an actor, that hot French babe and life in general.
@01594842330 , speaking strictly as a professional musician that sings, plays keys and guitar, has produced several records internationally distributed and as a guy that owns a record label, my opinion is, it's sequenced digitally, meaning it may well have been "programmed" by a human, but it is most certainly played by midi instruments being triggered from a computer!
@MEGALOUD Ok ok. But it is not a simple task. You need to gain knowledge of general music theory. Then get the equipment and learn how to use it to produce music and to top it off you need some form of creative talent. What im saying is not everyone can do this. This song is not a work of genius but its good. And I doubt that the producer was 5 years old when it was made.
@01594842330 On the contrary, you make this point well by saying that the producer may have been 5 years old (speculation) but a good point, and that is: todays computers, and midi instruments, are muchly already programmed, needing little talent to play, in fact in most cases, they play themselves if allowed to, and therefore my respect for the medium is little in regards to talent or music theory.
@MEGALOUD With the greatest respect 2 u...u r wrong! I don't personally have the ability to physically play an instrument v well. But my sister is beyond grade 8 pianist & teaches piano. Music is in my blood. Tho I may not b able 2 play a guitar piano etc as well as my sis can physically, u can give me any instrmnt u like & 5 minutes. Name a melody and I will play it on said instrument 4 u. I can compose. & do so with computers, samplers & turntables, which R also instrmts when properly used.
@MEGALOUD ..it should also not be forgotten, ever!...imo, that the "greatest" "concert level" pianist, is not REALLY a very good musician, if they can not make their music emote...something! There are MANY people in the world like this. Even having a great "musical" ear, and/or great working knowledge of music theory is not enough to qualify anyone as a "great musician". A 6 year old grade 2 guitarist with NO knowledge of music theory can be a better musician than them! ;)
@johnjnukemsheridan 'A 6 year old grade 2 guitarist with NO knowledge of music theory can be a better musician than them!'
When did that happen? The 6 year old. Address, please. 6 year olds tend to be fascinated with poo.
You completely miss the point of this song. If you are looking for a virtuoso performance, seek classical music. Orbital is not that; in fact, it is one of a kind.
Orbital is slammin'. Granted, this is not the best example.
@SheikhTaqiyyameister You either replied to the WRONG PERSON or totally didn't READ/COMPREHEND what I wrote. And FYI, if you have a child whom is 6 years of age, and facinated by poo and not much else, I think you'll find they are either just plain dumb or have some kind of learning disability. I suggest you take them or yourself to the Dr. for assessment immediately!
@MEGALOUD Since when is music about what made it? If Mozart had made requiem with a computer I certainly would not have cared. He definitely did not play the instruments himself, does that mean its not his music?
@nickshel First good rebuttal made, but my rebuke to this is Mozart's music is and always has been played by people with real instruments, that interpreted it and injected human emotion and feel into the pieces, that allowed to emote and to be deeply felt.
@MEGALOUD It is true there is a certain something to instruments and how they can be played with emotion or groove but as Alfred, Lord Tennyson said:
"Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow;
The year is going, let him go."
Everything changes and electronic music has added a whole new horizon of exploration. We still have the instrumental music as well so why does it matter if some people also think machines in the right hands can also produce emotion?
@nickshel A point well taken nickeshel and I appreciate your words and manner of speaking, you've given me something to think about, mine is only an opinion, and it should be taken as such, I too have used synths to create music, creating a symphony from my fingers in my recordings. While I did play these (sort of) it was not a real orchestra but a sampled one, and I couldn't afford a real one at the time, and it sounded pretty darn good and happened pretty darn fast allowing for creativity.
@MEGALOUD I think it's funny that my not that negative comment received so many negative votes, on this... all I can say is...enjoy the mediocrity, someday you may know what real music is.
someone told me when The Beach was out Pure shores was the best part of the whole movie i believed them ... then i saw it .. now their no longer breathing :D

This song makes you feel like you can throw away the worries and stress of the regular world and go to a place where there's nothing to bring you down. To just live life the way you want to live it.
so, which part of this tune is Badalamenti's and which is Orbital's? my guess is that these "wheee-whee-whee-wheee-whee-wheee" are Badalamenti's and those "bluhrr-bluhrr-pluhrr-purr-bluhrr-purr" are Orbital's stuff.
this song is to listen ....alone .......on sunset...... on a yacht with 500 milion dolars in your bank account...thinking about your miserable past how much you had to held for everything you have now !!!!!!!!!
@dawnmanjam - I was just thinking that ! its like they are locked away from society and looking for some 1 to argue with over a song!! throw away the key , :)
YOUTUBE PLEASE READ THIS! you bunch of fuckwits are driving me mad with your videos stopping 5 seconds short - playing a playlist needs constant management and I can't afford to pay someone to skip to the next track - sort it out!
I only watcghed this movie today but i was overawed by the soundtrack, and the fact that i had most of them already, but the best part was when unkle lonely soul came up at the end, along with thia its the best song on the soundtrack in my opinion
Unique and deep sound. Love UK dance groups. ORBITAL, UNDERWORLD, THE ORB, THE PRODIGY, MASSIVE ATTACK, LEFTFIELD, JUNO REACTOR, UNKLE, FAITHLESS, KOSHEEN, DREADZONE, ALLFLAWS

so, which part of this tune is Badalamenti's and which is Orbital's? my guess is that these "wheee-whee-whee-wheee-whee-wheee" are Badalamenti's and those "bluhrr-bluhrr-pluhrr-purr-bluhrr-purr" are Orbital's stuff.
How do you think?
