  • very very very, cool

  • I'd stay with my rc helis ;-))

  • @MrJinCamty G'day again... Ah, I see that I wasn't the only one to spot the need for a Test-Flying Helmet..! Fine, good boy. But, why hop around at the limits of Control in a Paddock that had a Pole, BETWEEN You & the Camera...? My kids saw me crash, on T/O... This game has BIG Penalties... Pick a better spot, or next time your son could be lending his film to the Coroner. Ask @xjet to Fly there ? And, seriously consider Dual Time, learning Eggbeaters. You've had the Peaks !

  • So glad I found this video. Your son is very proud of your eoffort and courage! The helicopter looks like a nice design. Likes to turn to the right a bit, though. How did you end up correcting that? Was that the 5Kg?

Hope you post more and safe flyiing!

  • awsome!!!! more videos please!!!!! (:

  • whaw verry nice .....

  • I love that kid

  • @cardioflow Me too, he's my best buddy. Cheers.

  • any updates to this? id love to see more!

  • @warmfreeze No sorry. Work has got in the way of living at the moment, but I'm soon to fix that. There are a few mods that need testing and I need a distraction free weekend with good weather. Cheers.

  • Bloody great stuff

  • Good on ya for having the courage to get that off the ground. Looks very well built. Will look forward to more video's of your progress.

  • MrJincamty... Amazing, I'm thrilled to see you guys doing this. I have to say from the amount of time I spent flying rotary I was taught to never let the chopper move left/right while so close to the ground (dynamic rollover). Incase this happens just drop that collective! However, it looks like you are learning like the very first of them did and I cannot imagine the excitement being that you built it! You are the man and I agree, your kid must and should be proud! Use caution and keep it up!

  • love what your doing, youv'e got the balls of an elephant, but please, please remember the golden rule, dont overstretch yourself or the machine, take all the time in the world ,cos youv'e got all the time in the world.engineers have brilliant heads on their shoulders, keep it there!!!

  • @tomsacadden Hi, thanks for your comments. By nature, I'm a very nervous creature, I hate loud noises and surprises, so to get this thing off the ground is a huge achievement for me. I don't plan on doing anything more than hovering in ground effect. But................

  • I bet he drinks carling black label.

  • @Chopper894 Haha, Cheers. Not sure what Carling black label is. Does it give you wings?

  • @MrJincamty The RT made me think of this advert 'Carling Black Label 'Dambusters' copy and paste it into the search box and see what I mean.

  • That is awesome my friend. Your kid is lucky to have you to look up to. not many kids out there could say my dad is bloody brilliant he made and flown a helicopter. He has a real cool person to look up to. would love to see more of this.

  • @navydragon31 Wow! Thanks for that. You've just put a huge smile on my face. Hard to beat a compliment like that! Cheers Cam.

  • People with no real sense of adventure simply don't understand the need to push your limits, both physically and mentally, they see it as reckless and foolish. You can't really fault them for it but at the same time you do feel a little sorry for them. I can guarantee you that everyone involved with this video has a perfect understanding of the risks involved as well as the consequences. This father is teaching his son more than anyone can imagine.

  • @shawnlund Thanks for the thoughtful comments. There is a lot of preparation, both mechanically and mentally before each run. There is a lot that can go wrong, that I'm well aware of. It's a great feeling when everything goes to plan. It scares the hell out of me, and that's a good thing. Cheers.

  • I would'nt do such extremely dangerous experiment in front of my children, especialy if they are in the shrapnel shelling distance of the blades, let alone the trauma they would have to carry away!

  • @murmurha Hi, I don't really care what you wouldn't do. I doubt you do much of anything!

  • I would'nt do this extremely dangerous experiment in front of my children, especialy if they are in the shrapnel shelling distance of blades, let alone the trauma they would have to carry away!

  • Congratulations mate, I was willing you off the ground all the way. Can't wait to see Part 3.

  • It needs a 3-axis gyro ;)

  • Has anyone ever told you not to look down when picking up, setting down, or hovering?

  • i wonder if a 16hp vertical shaft motor would be enough to get me off the ground

  • @ALLERTORLOVER69 Hi, According to the simulator, I'm using about 44hp to lift about 330kg in ground effect. You would need a fairly large rotor diameter and preferably a coaxial setup to maximize available power.

  • I gotta admit, it looks verry dangerous. But verry cool to do.

    Nice son.Be safe

  • Absolutely fantastic. It's brains and balls that got the Wright brothers off the ground and the same thing appears to be working well for you. Keep at it, looking forward to the next video.

  • @shawnlund Thanks for your comments. I can't believe it's been over a year since I've done any testing!

Work is certainly getting in the way of my hobbies. Time to flag work I think. I have a modified cruise control acting as an engine governor that I'm busting to test.

    Cheers.

  • no gyro stabilizer?

  • i think u need a heading hold gyro? gy401

  • You really need to get some dual instruction from a qualified instructor!!

  • @crewdogg16 When I find a qualified instructor for this machine, I will be all ears!

What I really need is a heap of money so I can buy a helicopter rating like everyone else. Cheers.

  • full face helmet is a good idea.that way you have a nice handle to carry home the severed head...im subscribing, cant wait to see what happens next

  • You should consider creating your frame lighter.. Carbon fiber would be a good start.

  • How can I get your plans to build my own Home built helicopter??? Can you email them to me???

  • from the camera angle I thought he was going to be a pole dancer looks like you did a nice job building your helo but with that open cockpit that helmet aint going to help you if it rolls over I thinking you need to get some lessons with duel control and get a good thet pilot to test you ship and help you grt it test flown and trimed even if you have to pay someone it will be worth it Just saying

  • Remember there are a few emergency procedures you need to get down including stuck pedals and autorotations. I couldn't imagine teaching myself a 180 auto landing. Best of luck to you. I'm definitely jealous.

  • Still impressed, still scared though. Jus

  • I am very impressed. I would encourage you to get some dual instruction. You really appear unsafe. That ground hover is not controlled and you are setting yourself up for dynamic rollover or striking an object. When the aircraft yaws or drifts you are not correcting it rather you are along for the ride. And god forbid you have an emergency. You done a great job thus far, ut you need to learn some basic flying skills.

  • @MyDogBob2001 Thanks for your comments. At the moment of lifting up both skids, I was almost full left peddle and full left cyclic. The loss of control with yaw was mainly due to rigging and bad rotor speed management. The little control I did have seemed predictable and smooth. The simulator has helped a lot with my coordination since this video.

    Cheers.

  • @MyDogBob2001 Totally aggree. Bouncing around with skids coming into contact with ground is very dangerous! Hard too know what best hover height would be but at least one foot hover. Also would not be a bad idea to get a bit of dual instruction in say a hughs 300. Get em too at least show you a few hovering engine failures. looks good well done!

  • Now that is cool!!!

  • id not like to fly that!!!! suicide machine #1

  • @gladanka And you never will.

  • @MrJincamty I hope not! i can just imagine when the tail rotor stops working in the middle of flight!

  • yes, I love your lovely child !!!that always encouraged his father and care and pray to God to his father flying !! great .

  • Wow, that is amazing right there..It almost seems like there is not enough left pedal tail authority to counteract torque?

  • Bravo à vous !!!

Bonjour d' un pilote CH 7 Angel , Français.

    Bon vols .

  • And your son did a great job of camera work. Nice video, be carefull.

  • fool

  • I am soooo tired of waiting for the next video!! :~)

..and put a plug in PottyMouths piehole? He is ruining the excellent technical video :~)

    Yeah I know.. kids!

so impressed with your enginuity and knowledge and.. yeah everything! Well done

  • are you guys aussie.???

  • @leeroy595 Close,,, Kiwi.

  • you should really get a heli chair and practice flying that way first.

  • @killirishred Done that... I can plug the helicopter into a computer and fly it using XPlane. All the parameters have been placed into PlaneMaker , which once opened in XPlane, can be flown as a very accurate simulation. The main problem is learning to fly by pure visual input as apposed to normal instruction.

    Cheers Cam.

  • Wow !!! Excellent.

Are you still flying this helicopter ??

  • That's inspiring!!!

  • Congratulations guys!! That thing is awesome!

  • This dummy is going to hurt himself or others what a piece of junk !!!!! Hey guy go buy a real heli n stop mess-in with things u know nothing about all yr going to do is crash real badly cuz u think yr cool then yr going to be crying when u do crash.....

  • @nathannmaureena awwwe shut it !

    What have you engineered built?

  • @ysoyelo To myself:

Should have seen it.. He is a credit card spammer/crook!

Go look for yourself. 26 year old criminal

  • I thought i seen a piece of somthing fall off around the pole area, that sounds like a different motor is it?

  • @docscot11 Hi, same engine, detuned 140hp Evinrude outboard. The stuff you see on both videos flying around are leaves on the ground, nothing metal has flown off for quite a while now.(touch wood).

  • Nice work Mr. Be careful tho,

    Scott

  • I'm shitting my self just watching this!, imagine if the chopper dips and the blades dig into the ground and then there's a horrifying shock as the kid watches his dad.... wow

  • @shushko69 Yeah, Just imagine, That would be horrible!

Oh well, no more imagining for me!

  • AW 95 clone, sir? Looks great! Keep at it!

  • @bluehazer Hi, Based on the Skylark/Furia mainly, but influenced by all the single seat helis on the interweb. Designed originally around a 50hp Yamaha outboard

but has since changed to 140hp Evinrude. Thanks.

  • @MrJincamty Yeah, I figured from the cyclic system you have it's a Cicare style control mech. Still, hang in there, and post some more! Nice copter, mate!

  • Good on you mate, I bet that you spent a lot of time designing and building that thing.

    Looks good too.

Tell me how did you get the misses to agree to your building a helicopter?!!!

    Australia salutes you!!

    Brian.

  • @LindaleeH Um, aahh, well...........That's probably why I don't have a misses. They cost far too much.

Thanks for the for the comments Brian.

  • Please please post more!

  • I have only watched your two test videos for the helo, but what I enjoyed more, was the admiration that your boy gives you..For sure, he seems proud of his dad...Seems like you 2 have a great relationship..on that, and the helo, I say GOOD JOB!

  • @HillBillyF100 Thanks for your comment. The best part of being a dad is being able to re-live your childhood. haha. We have alot of fun together and enjoy making stuff. He is my bestest buddy!

    Cheers.

  • I just realised by your cameramans accent you are a Kiwi! Damn I'm glad I was born in this country! I'll keep an eye out in the sky next time I drive down past your district :)

  • @NZMantaGSi Yep, that's right. Don't look too high! haha.

  • @NZMantaGSi Nice name!

  • I thought I was something special learning to fly a 450 size electric model RC heli, watching this video and the previous one I have to give you a heap of respect! Your chopper is amazing, I wish I was your next door neighbour!!! Well done, I really hope you get some good safe flights done. Just out of interest are you teaching yourself to fly or are you already a pilot, and just taking things easy in the test stage? Either way it looks like you are doing really well :)

  • @NZMantaGSi Hi, Thanks for the comments, I am hopeing to get some proper lessons soon when the finances permit. At the moment I'm learning from a simulator (XPlane) that I connect the helicopter controls to. Next round I will be testing an engine governor and some adjustments to the cyclic rigging.

    Cheers Cam.

  • @MrJincamty

Nice innovation and go get em attitude to actually try this.. But are you familiar with helicopter attributes at all to be teaching yourself?

your right drift is most likely a combo between Translating Tendency from tail rotor thrust, and center of Gravity being off.. Of CG is way to the right and the over amount of left stick to stop drift is whats causing your left skid to "drag"

Love it though! Just design trial and error.. Good Luck!!

  • @MrJincamty

Are your Blades Actual helicopter blades? Tested and all? Are they Tracked and Balanced? Will the survive forward flight where they will be Bending and Flapping? This is where most helicopter designs of the early days failed and crashed.. Materials or design flaws had to be figured out and stress tested.. Sell this one.. and buy a proven helicycle $50 grand American, Or a CH-7 Angle or even a Rotorway for $15-$20 grand American used!!

At least proven and used parts

  • Keep your eyes on the horizon as you break ground and get light on the skids.

Use you peripheral vision to 'pre-sense' movement and arrest it automatically prior to it becoming a major movement. Let your head be on a 'swivel' and floating to sense movements. If you are looking down, you will not be able to correctly sense the horizon, and in turn your impending motions. Can't help with the weight, but a bit of mast angle might help to the right.

  • @vondeliusc Thanks, I noticed once the skids left the ground, it seemd to respond just like the simulator. Unfortunately I'm using full left stick. Back to the drawing board.

  • @MrJincamty I'm curious, have you've come up with a fix yet?
