My Mom's boyfriend had one of these cars when I was a teen, it was dark charcoal grey, turbo, with t- tops. One of the fist sports cars I ever drove. I remember he bought that thing brand new, it wouldn't be much performance- wise by today's standards, but back then, it was one badass ride. I'll always love the 1981 Trans-Am.
by 1981 the Trans Am become a grand tourer than a muscle car. by the way, look at the performance of other cars from 1981: mustang cobra, camaro z28, corvette, delorean, datsun Z, and then you will notice that the 81 Trans am wasn't so bad at all.
haha, i bet it was full throttle, these turbo T/As were decent on paper especially when you compare them to the Olds 403 and Pontiac 400 versions of earlier years (210hp and 345tq) seems like a good deal, but when you get them on the road they pull quarter times of 16 seconds T-T *wheeze* I hear its all from the poor gas quality and the sensors that retard the timing.
Not saying they're not good investments though, only about 6000 Turbos and 3000 SE Turbos, they're rare and will be valuable
@shane77ta haha yeaahh, i wouldnt be embarassed to own and drive one, they still look amazing, they're rare, and they're the last true Pontiac motor in a T/A...but i definatly wouldnt be revving at any stop lights LOL
I would however like to take one and put a turbo charged LS1 or LS3 in it ;-)
@shane77ta how does the oldsmobile powered F body run? I owned an Olds 98 w/ a 403/th350 combo and it was strong but the car was 2 tons and the rear end might as well been 1:1

hahaha i have a 77 se and 79 se and the 77 is a 400 4 speed and the 79 is the 403 olds. ur right the turbos cant get out of their own way
