Many of the black people in the neighborhood i grew up in don't act like victims. But many of them fall into the trap of doing something illegal to feed themselves and their family. I could have easily done the same to insure we had electricity and running water, but i kept faith that I could overcome. That's not easy. When Elder says these had things then maybe the Republicans have an image problem. If the Republicans went back to pro-business and focused on bringing more capital into black communities than they would get 30-40 percent of the black vote every year, but they don't because the Democrats have them in their pocket. Not overt hate, but peripheral stereotypes that hurt minorities namely in employment and home buying (was a sociology major in college): 40% less likely to get called back for a job, less likely to get called back record-free than a majority member w/ a felony. Need to earn 10k more than the neighborhood you move into to buy on avg, 60x more likely to be turned down for housing loan.

And are there no Democrats who just don't like minorities? What policies specifically "target minorities"? That's a more substantive discussion we could have. As the poster below says, a majority of blacks support family values, oppose gay marriage, support school vouchers, and other social causes of the Republican party. But 95% vote Democrat because the Democrats use fear and cookies to own the black vote. rbk2000, do you know who Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms are (they were one of quite a few Southern Dems who left the party and joined Republicans, making it more conservative, bc they were mad LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act bill), thus leaving mainly liberals in the Democratic Party. Look up the SOUTHERN STRATEGY and you will see who is in fact using race. Social issues are wedge issues. It's obvious whose fiscal positions the GOP defends, and it isn't of black people.

Look, he (Larry Elder) makes VERY legitimate points and I agree with them. But he *always* takes the white racial side to the argument. To him, absolutely nothing happened in the 60's or, fuck, 70's, even. Somehow that's a distant past for him that is so far gone it isn't worth remembering cause its not relevant. Many of the black people in the neighborhood i grew up in don't act like victims. But many of them fall into the trap of doing something illegal to feed themselves and their family. I could have easily done the same to insure we had electricity and running water, but i kept faith that I could overcome. That's not easy. No many of the blacks and mexicans in my neighborhood don't want the government or some white man to save them. Many of them make the wrong decision that effects the community

If the Republicans went back to pro-business and focused on bringing more capital into black communities than they would get 30-40 percent of the black vote every year, but they don't because the Democrats have them in their pocket.
