I have lost a couple of skunks, one as a baby, and one nearly 9 years old. I still grieve for them. I have 3 right now, that get away with murder. :)

I have been pretty successful with my skunks, except for 1. Dutch, a chocolate and white. He was a brilliant little guy, but arrived with distemper. Sometimes, there is nothing you could have done better for them, nothing you could have foreseen.

it's illegal to keep skunks in the uk because of having to remove their anal scent glands. I think he's beautiful but I think it makes you wonder when you have to have something removed surgically from an animal in order for it to be deemed okay to keep as a pet... Just a thought.

@lemonyjayne Its not illegal to keep them in the UK, just to have their scent glands removed. Although its not even necessary to remove their glands, many keepers never have their Skunks glands removed. You won't get sprayed if you have a properly socialised Skunk...

I have skunks at work. There's one I play a feet stamping game with and he stomps back. One night he chased me, the little stinker, and I could just imagine him giggling all the way, lol! He's not afraid to get close to me when searching for food anymore. I don't think I'd pet him, but I do talk to him. He doesn't seem intimidated at all. The little guy figured out my game and that I'm not going to hurt him. lol.

I think property management may poison them evey year because I don't see Butchy or his other little friends around any more. :-( If they hibernate, I hope that is what they are doing. I miss Butchy.

@girlsneutral His girlfriend Yvonne was pretty cute too. She had beautiful long white wavy fur. She was trying to climb up this little hill and couldn't make it. I told her "Yvonne! go down a few feet and try the concrete steps." Wouldn't you know it - like she understood what I said (who knows, lol!) she hobbled down a few feet to the stone steps and made her way up the hill. I think she may have been pregnant at the time because she was really waddling, lol! I'd love to have 1 as a pet.

You could search web also make sure they legal where you live, My skunk sleeps under our bed and you never want to cage a skunk,You want to always show them efection cause they will get mean if not, they have to have interaction with who ever in ur house ..think of it as having a 3yr kid that need a litter box :)
