DANG...so now every race should only support their own race's business enterprises, right? that's what it seems to be based on the comments..support only black! ..if you're white, go only to white stores, if you're east asian, go only to east asian stores, if you're south asian, buy only from south asian businesses...
Much respect for putting up this video. I totally respect the BOBSA movement. The same thing is ahppening here in the UK excet businesses are run by indian and Pakistanis. Black people remain oblivious to the fact that they willingly support other races to become successful but never their own.
While we're at it, why aren't there more Black run cosmetology schools? The Black women I went to school with in the typical White-owned and run cosmetology school ran CIRCLES around every other ethnic group with their technical and creative abilities in the areas of hair and beauty!
@CheezInspector Black people must realise that business, schools and shops are not just gonna appear from nowhere. Blacks must take the initiative and start these institutions in their own community. The money that blacks waste in gospel churches could be used to be schools and open businesses, employing their own people.
@ow7ful, you know that's a good point too. I think both of us make reasonable points. Methodology around curly and "kinky" hair needs to be better researched and taught by general cosmetology institutions and ALSO the Black community needs to exercise more initiative and leadership when it comes to the (literal) business of Black hair.
This is what happens when we befriend people and bring them into our families/communities, they end up sleeping in our beds and we end up on the streets...We should have never given these people entrance into our hair care business, why don't they go open a hair care business in the white areas? Because whitey will shut their asses down, that's why...We have got to start thinking with our heads and use our heart for the pumping of blood only...Everybody uses us as their stimulus, except us...
Don't think we need to be saying don't like the Koreans. We need to start owning our own beauty supply stores like the couple did. Create alternatives and don't resort to violence.
Okay watching the Video just Frustrates me. People have every right to open what ever sort of business they want. You say they are taking jobs from the Black Community, If the community didnt have a shop in the first place how can it be taken. Yes African Americans Are the highest users of Extensions etc but anybody that is interested in the business has the right to enter it. They dont have to be African American.I had a salon a few months ago and a hair shop opened a few blocks just like
@freedombraids this video and i went right into the shop introduced myself and welcomed them to the Area. I told them we should be at peace with eachother and i quote" If i have a busy day i will send some clients to you". People need to stop being so competetive and understand the shop owner next to you is the same as you, Just a person trying to make their way in this big way so instead of putting them down with hatred and Evilness, Support them and Wish them well.
this isn't about race it's about bussiness. these blacks are basically asking their competition to help them and if they don't they use the race card, again. if someone wants to open a store right next door yours they have the right to. the blacks are racists but nobody says anything.
I knew there was a reason why i didn't care for Brandy, now i know why ? she has that big olde fake arse Wig own that is bigger than her body ! we or at least some of us have Very Short Memory Span ! he got that right about the hair business is big in TEXAS, especially Houston and Dallas. It's too daynm Hot for a big lacy wig or weave. why don't we wear our hair according to our features like other races ? I blame the black Churchs, politicians, etc. for this Freaking Mess !
He opened up there b/c this is America and he is free to do so. Same reason why CVS opens up across the street from Walgreens. He put capital at risk because he thinks he can run a successful business there despite an established competitor nearby. I think blacks often struggle because they feel entitled, which hurts their ability to compete.
This just make me SICK! Its so sad that they have taken over the black hair industry and black owned beauty suppliers have to fight just to try to prosper from their own!
@mimi42428 Don't get mad you just found what she really is and i am shock that our people did not catch what was going on its if you ever decide to start a business start it in another country black people are sleep in this country if want more info about leaving just let me know.
@carla31brown thanks for your response!i live in the UK and the same thing is happening over here but there is still hope! we need to be controlling what is sold to ourselves. how is it that other ethnicities are controlling what we use and how we get it. we need to take control.
ARABS R TAKING OVER BEAUTY SUPPLY STORES.... NOT KOREANS.... WE WANT SOME OF THAT MONEY...WE CURRENTLY OWN 7 BEAUTY SUPPLIES STORES IN LOUISIANA AND WERE EXPANDING...
I can see what the Korean man is saying (kind of). They arent here to trick black people they are just trying to make a living like everyone else.Just like the koreans come from korea and work at family members black hair care stores, Vietnamese do the same thing but they work at nail salons, and black people endorse in that too. But obviousley black hair care stores are directly targeted to us.
@mimi42428 Please visit my page and look at blacks without broders and learn from it some of us have to leave this country to make a future for childern but Brandy will get hers in the future and i hope she will never make another hit record
@mimi42428 As a people we need to look overseas to start business please don't buy her hair but i have given up on our people we don't support our people its sad
@carla31brown i have bought her hair and never will. she should ashamed of herself.her black brothers and sisters are trying to make a point just a few metres from her and she is basically telling them to fuck off. the asian man is looking at the whole situation thinking these people really are stupid and laughing all the way to the bank.
@mimi42428 I want you to look at Dr.claud Anderson please he tell sit like it is and I had a home base business my self and no support from my own look at powernomic and also Black women are going to dominican hair shops i have no hate towards them but do they support african american business here is some mental illness in some black people not all of us but i have given up on the black races i have i am tryin to get the hell out of th U.S and if you ever have kids do not rasie them here
@carla31brown OMG IT IS JUST ON A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. AND THE SAD PART IS THAT MOST AFRICAN AMERICANS SEE NOTHING WRONG IN WHAT THEY DO SMDH! PEOPLE LIKE OPRAH AND TYRA ETC... SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS
@mimi42428 There hearts might be good but they can only say so much I am going to tell you this where oparh grew up there where still slaves in the 20th but she never did a show on it this topic its all about controll
@carla31brown i dont understand how they were able to come along and even go as far as controlling what is on the market to blacks and even refuse to wholesale to blacks. i dont blame them,if we werent idolising their hair and beauty and being so naive in the beginning then they would've left our industry alone and found something else to do. this would never happen in asia. black people going over there and controlling what gets sold to who, taking over etc....
@mimi42428 When i was child there was a black own beauty store it was a old black man that owned it and he sold to the asian because his childern did not want to take over it that is how it got started I grew up in the 80s i saw the big change as a child but very recent a black man around the corner where i live there was a black own beauty store and he had high volume and he was for three years and he ssold it to the arabas and the store is still close.
@carla31brown I THINK THAT MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE MOST ESPECIALLY AFRICAN AMERICANS REALLY DONT SEE THE SERIOUSNESS IN THE ISSUE. THEY REALLY DONT LOOK DEEPER. EXAMPLE 1 IS THOSE WHO RELAX THEIR HAIR. THEY SAY THAT THEY DO IT TO MAKE THEIR HAIR MANAGEBLE BUT WE BOTH KNOW THAT DEEP DOWN THEY JUST DONT LIKE THEIR REAL HAIR AND ARE SCARED THAT OTHER WON’T TOO. 2 WEARING EXTENSIONS IS OK AS AN OCCASIONAL CHANGE BUT WHEN YOU WEAR IT BECAUSE YOU CANT STAND YOUR OWN HAIR IS JUST SAD.
@mimi42428 I wear my own natural hair and i have problems getting a job because of a afro so i where wigs when looking for work but it is easy to take care of the natrual
@carla31brown THEY JUST DONT CARE! LOOK AT THE SHOW. THE ASIAN WOMAN WHOS IN LAW CAME INTO USA LIKE A MONTH AND SHE IS HELPING HIM OPEN HIS OWN SHOP. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME AN AFRICAN AMERICAN PERSON DID THAT FOR EACH OTHER? AND WE ARE QUICK TO GET JEALOUS ONE ANOTHER INSTEAD OF JUST BEING HAPPY AND LEARNING FROM THE OTHER PERSON SMDH IT IS SAD. UNTIL AA LEARN THAT THEY WERE BRAINWASHED AND MISTREATED AND LEARN WHAT THEY CAN DO TO GET OVER IT AND CONTINUE TO MAKE POSITIVE....
@mimi42428 There is a mental sickness in the black community i came up with a plan to start a beauty supply market i got laugh at an kind of support thats why i plan to leave and then come back to start a business
@mimi42428 They never had a history like we do the music and movies is part of the blame and we did have more in civil rights movement at least we create jobs to help other blacks i am going to tell it like it is they have ther gods and deity to help them and guide them christanty is a a nightmare when you start calling on the african gods you will get the help that you need we our calling on the wrong god
@carla31brown i totally agree. we have been so brainwashed by the white man that most of us dont believe in our own god anymore. we follow the white mans god. it is sad. african americans
@mimi42428 I want to say sorry if i offend you but i want i understand where you comming from but please look at its history and look at our people it has done no good but i am sorry if i said something that hurt you i am sorry but listen to wblr.com and if you add me as a friend i will send you some videos
@mimi42428 Ok lol you know i found out that its you should see how dumb ass black folks are running to get there hair done by dominicans and on said you black people need to step up your game and not one black person type a word and my own kind beat up on me i did not say a bad word about dominincans races but you just keep supporting our people that have stores and let the dead stay dead
@mimi42428 I am trying to move to south africa there are some good african countries to move to but america was never our home there have been a blacks that have given up on america i encourage you and anyone eles to get the hell out of america if you want the info let me know it takes money but not a lot the cost of living is cheaper
@carla31brown oh i dont live in america lol.im from west africa. born and bred. lol
i live in the uk and it isnt so bad over here but it is getting bad if the blacks dont take over. the indians and pakistanis are taking over the black hair industry. it is so sad
@mimi42428 Sorry about that girl we could be family who knows but that is sad LoL i thought you where african american but its a world wide problem for us what planet can we go to what tribe do you come from
@mimi42428 Thank you I wanted to let you i know it hurts about our people i just wish that all the smart black people can go to another planet and start over but read on Social engineering and you will understand whats going on there laws that say we cannot unit as a people we are a target race on the planet and the world hates the black race
@carla31brown you are called devil worshipper for believing in something other than what the white man says is god. but the asians will never give up their culture and heritage for noone.never! african americans dont even know their own heritage, ancestry and culture and history. at least it looks like they dont care smh
@carla31brown CHANGES TO THE COMMUNITY THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. TAKE PEOPLE LIKE OPRAH, SHE IS IN THE POSITION TO HELP THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY AND MAKE HUGE CHANGES YET SHE CHOOSES TO USE HER MONEY RECKLESSLY.WHAT HAS SHE DONE FOR BLACK PEOPLE IN AMERICA?INSTEAD SHE RUNS TO SOUTH AFRICA TO OPEN A SCHOOL.SMDH AND SHE ACTUALLY DECENDS FROM LIBERIA IN WEST AFRICA. WHAT IS IT WITH AFRICAN AMERICANS WANTING TO BE FROM SOUTH AFRICA AND ARE ASHAMED TO BE...
@mimi42428 Her life can be on the line i don't i wish i knew but the reason she is doing that because they have built a a new south africa if found out what tribe i come from i would help them but what about the ones in this country you mean to tell me she can't start a chain of beauty stores she has the money to do it
@carla31brown SHE DECENDS FROM LIBERIA IN WEST AFRICA! SHE FOUND THIS OUT AND HAS NEVER SET FOOT THERE BUT SHE HAS MADE HER WAY ALL THE WAY TO SOUTH AFRICA. I GUESS SHE WOULD RATHER SHE WAS SOUTH AFRICAN THAN WEST AFRICAN. THIS ISNT NEW. THERE ARE VERY HUGE MAJORITY OF AA THAN WOULD LOVE TO BE FROM SOUTRH AFRICA BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT ALMOST ALL OF AA DECEND FROM WEST AFRICA!!!
@carla31brown FROM ANYWHERE ELSE IN AFRICA? WE HEAR THIS ALL THE TIME THAT WE SHOULD GET OVER SLAVERY.BUT WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HEARD SOMEONE TELL A JEW TO GET OVER THE HOLLACAUST? NEVER! AND THE JEWS ARE GETTING COMPENSATED FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM BUT ARE AFRICAN AMERICANS? NO! WE SUFFERED FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, THE HOLOCAUST LASTED A FEW YEARS WHILST SLAVERY OF AFRICANS LASTED HUNDREDS YET WE ARE NOT GIVEN....
@mimi42428 The way things have been going on a lot of your rich have left the country somthing is about to happend here in this country and it is already happend i will never expect any type of payment for what they did but you and they are doing a lot of building in africa and the question is why look at that movie 2012 they tell you what they about to do do
@carla31brown ANY ATTENTION ABOUT BECAUSE WE HAVENT SHOWN THAT WE CARE MUCH. THE JEWISH PEOPLE RESPECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR HERITAGE MORE YET WE TREAT EACH OTHER LIKE CRAP AND THE JEWISH DO THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE
Why because balck folks dont give a fuck about each other so the Koreans and whom evea the fuck will continue to to send there kids to college that us blacks pay for why we cant even afford to send our kids across the street ...We need to stop measuring african american beautiy with a european yard stick
Wake up people. We don't need any of them. We can simply start wearing our own hair and making our own products. Read Knotty Truth! We can educate and empower ourselves. It starts with YOU-not BOBSA or the Koreans! We can buy direct from black suppliers-we don't need the stores, or the conventions. Internets and Libraries are beautiful things!
You're right, he does want your money, and he is getting it because people always want to buy cheaper. We see this with WalMart and Ikea, buying cheap products and sacrificing quality and local employment. It's sad that individuals take their concerns as a right to do damage to someone else's property and legitimate business, instead of taking their dollars elsewhere and trying to spread awareness. How counterproductive, it undermines the cause BOBSA is fighting for.
For people who are saying they do not care, think again. This vid is about educating the community on economics and how majority chose cheap over quality. The black community is ruined and out of work because we let glue and plastic tips take over sculpted nails and we let Asia take over Africa's hair that they don't know anything about and half the time we don't know about either. Only Africa can do Africa's hair. Time to make a change period.
This is a very interesting documentary. It also made me sad. People have been making money from Black people/culture ever since that first ship came through the Middle Passage to the Virginia Colonies. The Korean merchants are just the latest group to profit from Black communities. I don't buy a lot of haircare products. However, for many years I have made it a point to patronize Black cosmetics (Fashion Fair), and to buy my haircare products from a Black-owned store.
Anyways? Peace Everyone. I'm all for Asian Man and Black Girl Unity!
I wasn't trying to offend anyone or try to trigger a racial thing here. I just wish that everything doesn't have to come down to a Racial issue. That is all I wanted to say.
If I offended anyone. My sincere apologies and hopefully the Asian and Black community can someday work together to better each others community and tackle the challenges we all face together as Minorities. Peace
Who cares. lol. anyone that wants to open a business has their choice where they want to open it. People are hipocrytes because we all know that when your own a biz you are going to have to succomb to the challenges that are faced in the biz world . This is ludicrous documentary.
It baffles me how my people expect to "take control" of the black hair industry, mad because Koreans are "pushing" weave like weight...if more of our salons promoted natural hair care & natural hair products, they'd be making all the profits...fuckem' I don't care any more...let them takeover the community shit...niggas still want to look like anglo's...wondering why they can't gain a monopoly on "straight hair" lol...
This is a problem bcuz koreans own the black hair industry. These supplier sale their product but, will not sale black products. An while these business make billions a year off the people, BP, who buy from them don't get any benefit of this. So while black peoples money are building koreans community economically their is nothing building the black community economically. So its much more than hair products.
Wrong. It is the consumers who are not buying the Black Manufacturers products..It's really simple math. If you have a better product that's cheaper? Go Figure? This is actually a NO BRAINER.. So? Again? How did this become a Racial thing involving the Korean Community when in reality it is Korean Individuals who saw an opportunity and took it..You make it sound like the K-Commmunity is being supported and run off of Black Hair Products and like this whole thing is a conspiracy..haha
WHO SAYS IT HAS ANY THING TO DO WITH RACE? Like I said it is more of a financial issue than a racial one! An Yes they are going to go for the cheaper "LOW" grade product becuz its cheaper and they are brainwashed intto thinking that it good for their hair. An from what I have seen in my community they leech off the ppl! From black hair magzines in korean and the korean owned stores in the B-community. Wether you recognize it or not, koreans are benefiting form sucking BP dry!
"Who says it has anything to do with RACE?" The moment you mentioned "Black Community" and "Korean Community" that's when it became a Race thing..Just the hypocracy of some peoples logic amazes me..So? Next time when a White Supremist claims that Welfare should be taken away because it does not Benefit the White Community and it only benefits Blacks...You better Think twice before you call him a RACIST..OK? Remember..it's not a Racial thing its all about Finances...haha RIGHT!!
You are blowing it out of proportion! I say korean and black to distinguish the two communitys. Just because I say korean and Black in the same sentence does not I am talking about races. When was the last time I wrote something degrading about koreans? Never! I was talking about the fanicial burden it is in my community but, your bias mine can't see that.
An by the way more whites are on welfare than black people. Do you think that those ppl in the trailer parks are rich?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I swear people act like the black race is the only race living off of walfare. Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, and asians are all living off of welfare as well. Whites are no ones saviors, you are starting to sound like rediculuous. They are only a big piece of the population but, everyone pays for welfare not just whites and NO ONE BENEFITS FROM IT THAT IS MAKING DECENT MONEY including blacks. So that argument is just trash!
if you watched the documentary you would see that it became racial when korean distributors would ask potential sellers if they were asian and then refuse to buy from them when the sellers stated they were black.
it became racial when a black man was told by a korean beauty shop owner, that they weren't going to let the niggers take over the beauty supply industry.
those are the kinds of things that people are rightfully upset about.
Consider this...Korean distributor will sale many brands of hair to black owned stores but the most profitable/popular brand hair are only sold to Korean retailers making it harder for Black own stores to retain market shares. This violates several trade laws and is called a monolopy. I won't call it a racial thing, but the Korean community is very closed to other races unless your not in competition with them..let's call it nationalism
i think many of you are missing an important point...its not about Koreans opening a business, its about the business practices of the retailers, and manufacturers. They are making it next to impossible for black manufacturers to get their products distributed, and wont sell black owned products in their stores.
OH? Yeah? Tell that to the FOOOOL!!! Who tried to burn down that Korean owned business for the 3rd time..
And? Since when? Was it a requirement for Blacks to only use Black Manufacturers hair products? I would fully understand if The Non-Black products are inferior in quality..But? Obviously this is not the case..Or else? The Black manufacturers would be thriving..Again? It comes down to only trying to support your own Group Or Race of people all for the wrong reasons..
So its thats the case, then isnt it wrong for korean stores to only sell products from korean manufacturers? Wouldnt that be another instance of only supporting your own race for the wrong reasons?
Really? I was told that The Korean Manufacturers was of better quality and cheaper than the Black Manufacturers?? HMMMM?? You do the math...As a business owner? What do you do??
Korean products are not of good quality and neither are they looking out for Black hair. Why do you think most girls walk around with their hair above their shoulders and boys hair are at their peak. It is because BW are put chemical and gunk in their girls hair! I don't think that any thing that goes against what your hairs naturally structure is good.
Well? Tell that to Tyra Banks who opts for UN-NATURAL Extensions to make Her Hair Straight..Actually? Korean Product is Very GOOD quality..They are pretty cutting edge when it comes to Hair Products along with all other Technological fields..The biggest complaint with Black Manufacturers is consistancy and price..If you take the facts that I have mentioned here..Can you tell me now? When did this become a Racial thing? Thank you..
Korean Products are not good quality and I will tell you why. Most of the ingredients in korean products are only to make your hair look healthy not be healthy. ingredients like protroleum only makes hair look shiney and weights it down! It also suffocate your hair and scalp. This is primary ingredient in most korean products! So as soon as it starts breaking off they can run right back to the koreans for more useless products. Its a catch22!
Geez? This Racist behaviour of Blacks on Asians is just getting RIDICULOUS! Imagine if alot of Blacks started to open up Chinese restraunts or Dry Cleaners? Do you really think? Asians would take this to the same ugly level as the Blacks in this documentary? OF COURSE NOT! BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE RACISM! or at least that is what the Black community would BLAST ABOUT! This discrimination is just hypocritical and getting OLD! If this shit happened viceversa?Asians would just work harder. PERIOD!!!
No one is being racist! This is a big problem in the black community. If Blacks started opening up business in the Asain communities and raking away their money. I am pretty sure they will start raising a riot. The problem in the Black community is that people are ignorant to their neigborhood economy. BW are so dependent on korean beauty stores that they do not think about these issues. This is one of the reason I went natural because I was getting sick of not support my own ethnic beauty.
Yes..that would make Asians Racist if Blacks started to open up Successful businesses in Asian Communities and Asians started to Riot because they were Black..Matter of fact? I would be the FIRST one to stand up for Blacks and how the Asians are making this into a Racial thing..Since when? Was it wrong for Blacks to open up businesses in Asian Communities? Now? Can you think of this Vice Versa? It would just mean..Asians Need to GET OFF THERE ASSES And QUIT COMPLAINING AND WORK HARDER..PERIOD!!
This problem is more financial than racial. The Black hair industry is a billion dollar business & who benefits the most from it? Not its their audience but, the Koreans. Its like a parasitic relationship one is harmed while the other takes. All that money is going out of the black community and into the korean community. We're is our profit? Isn't it our money going into their store?
Also you say we don't work hard I have one question? have you heard of BOBSA?
An for the record I have nothing against koreans. I just don't thing their present is good "financial" in the black community. If black hair suppliers didn't have them to compete with, their product would be cheaper. Due to their struggle to stay in business they have to raise their prices to make up for the lack of revenue. If alot more BP knew the long term benefits they would spend the extra dollars to support them but, most are ignorant.
OK? With your logic..Where is the Black Communities Profit when you go to the Groceries, Buy a car, Stereo, Shoes..etc..etc. But? I understand..The Korean Community is suppose to keep working hard and give the whole Black Community a Profit share? Sorry that is just not realistic..And sorry to say..This way of thinking and logic kind of REEKS of that bad stereotype of how Blacks always feel something is owed to them..
if u wanna open up a shop open it up dont be whining like this country doesnt let u open one..if u want to get a job save up ur money and make an honest living instead of shooting some innocent lady for chump change
LOL. blacks always want to be respected by non-black people, but the hypocrisy of living in the US, is that blacks always get the upper-echelon of benefits. They get the good lime light when it comes to the media. Always have people feeling sorry for them. Good example is the L.A. riot. Did the black terrorists ever pay back the Korean store owners for the damage they've done? no! Did jesse jackson or al sharpton ever apologize to the Koreans? again, a big NO!
Yeah, this video is a GREAT example of black racism. Blacks whine and cry when they are mistreated by whites or Asians. But when it comes to Asians doing business in a black neighborhood, they resort to boycotting Asian businesses. This kind of anti-Asian racism is not only directed at Koreans. I have seen Chinese restaurants and Vietnamese nail salons get harrassed by these blacks. They come in, scream and harrass the Asian business owners, make racial slurs at them.
Hm, I don't blame the Koreans but Blacks should definitely step up. Either stop emotionally investing so much in hair ... or shop in black-owned stores. And store owners should step up their game too. If you need to better your customer service, etc. to keep black customers then do it. Personally there's only one of each where I live and I always end up in going to regular drugstores. I've never felt the need to do every possible (damaging) thing to my hair.
People can say what they want to, but these people are smart. Black owned beauty supply stores (that I've experienced) do not have comparable selection of items or prices. I try to support them, but I'm not going to pay double for the sake of supporting black business. Also, customer service is important..you want to visit a store where someone is pleasant. Basing my comment on experience, not stereotypes
Koreans and others will forever profit off of Black womens' insecurity with their hair as long as they keep using their hair for weaves. I only saw about a handful of women wearing their NATURAL beautifully textured hair...and that to me is SAD.And people wonder why BW are considered so unattractive...they wear their insecurity right on top of their heads.
not to sound unrealistic, but when i heard that 6 stores down the koreans opened up a store by this sista, i knew that soon after they'd say something had jumped off. i think this film sheds some light on, at least the original, that black people are just tired of sitting on it in this country which our fore-parents built. one month after the guy came from korea-opening up a salon. wow. it is unfair to allow this to go on. but this country "in the promisary note we trust"
Also,my friend's mother is south korean, and her daughter,my friend, is half black/half korean, and they both can do hair great. But her mother ACTUALLY went to school to learn how to do african american hair just so she could do her daughters hair,i'm not sure about the other Korean people..but I think most just want our money.
Most Koreans want your money? Puleez! That kind of atittude and black racism is what makes me not support any crap that comes out of al sharpton or jesse jack-ass-son's mouth. All about "keeping the money in the black community." Look, if you don't have what it takes to open up a shop, don't have to take your black community's anger and hatred out on Asian businesses.
um, im not racist, T_T lol,i said i THINK they just want our money because it seems that way, everytime I go into the store, no one can assist me,they only can sell me the product. My mom is a quarter okinawan and a quarter korean so i highly doubt i'm being racist, and im a kid, how could i open up a beauty supply store,T_Tdont get mad at me because I said what i thought, dont jump on me either,i'm only a friggin kid, shows how big you are
I am so glad that someone finally adressed this..I am a 14 year old African American-Multicultured girl, and I kind of got tired of going to the beauty supply store and having to search for a black sales person to ask about products..I want someone to own the store who actually knows what I need and can assist me when I need help when it comes to my hair.
I totally agree, beckylikesmusic. Why so much animosity about Koreans owning beauty supplies?? All racism aside, owning a beauty supply is profitable and ANYONE should be allowed to own any type of business they want. They might not know how to handle "ethnic" hair but that's another story. I don't understand the whole "keep the dollar in the black community" idea. We all live in the USA.
Me personally, if i can find a black owned business to shop at I do! Whether african american or africans! I try to support black owned businesses as much as i can! but where I am (side of town) theres only ONE black owned business (that ive seen) and I do shop at her beauty supply store every chance i get!
I feel you. There is a new black owned BSS right down the block from me. Their prices are okay. However, they don't carry products that cater to natural hair. I have to go into the city (Chicago) to purchase my hair products (shea butter, Black Earth hair products-from a salon (Soul Spa Salon-not the shea butter though), etc.). But at least they are black owned. If I purchase my products online I know I am supporting black business which I like to do (Oyin Handmade, etc.).
you guys I'm black First off I want to let you guys know is that all we want is for our people to be educated about their hair we don't mean any harm shalom
The Korean guy got his business in a month and he is not even a citizen yet doesn't anyone find this strange. Yet how many Blacks and Americans who get turned down for business ideas. This is crazy why is suff like this still going on!
Read the book "Ethnic Solidarity for Economic Survival" by Pyong Gap Min. Korean business don't usually go to banks for loans. Insteand they either bring savings from Korea or they borrow from friends and family members for startup costs.
The very thing people fear blacks doing in this country they have absolutely no problem with any other ethnic group doing. Thank you for the book info!
Why is that strange? He must have a social security # if he can open up a business. He has what you would call a permanent residency aka green card. Blacks or any Americans with ideas must have shitty credit or else they wouldn't be turned down for business. In the other hand Koreans have a system where you can borrow money through the Korean community and pay monthly without any interests.
Well, you don't find it ridiculous that many of thebusinesses primarily patronized by black people are owned by other races and ethnic groups? Essentially this means that your dollar is leaving the black community very quickly and not coming back to it. This part of the reason why black Americans are still one of the most economically disadvantaged groups.
Get educated. That is a good idea for someone who can't spell ancestor or disgrace. I can tell you're young and have a lot to learn so I will just leave you alone. I'm black and educated so your point is mute with me. I still love the nigga trash as you put it. They are my people, and my people are me. We represent one another.
I'm black, and I don't believe you're black. Your name is ookami, BE FOR REAL. If you are black then tell you parents to move you out the white neighborhood and put you around people that look like you. If you even watch the documentary they said the koreans are black balling the Black out of the hair business. They also said the U.S. help the koreans monopolize the industry. So what are black suppose to do? The doc. is about blacks starting to do something and not just talking.
Yea right you black, making a comment like that. Stupid we did jump on the band wagon long before the koreans. Madam CJ Walker!!! A-hole, you ever heard of her. It's our hair, so what the hell you mean jump on the wagon. It our freaking wagon. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU BLACK, WHEN YOU KNOW YOU'RE KOREAN. F-YOU
Hell no they won't hire Black people. I used to work with a Korean nurse who has been in this country less than 4 years. I had to orient her to the unit we were working on. I asked her what Koreans think about Black people. She said that in Korea they have the impression that we are "bad."
Blacks hiring Koreans? Since when? I don't know any Korean who work for blacks.
If blacks are hard working people Koreans would hire but they can't compare to Latinos or other Asians. Latinos who work for harder for less and less demanding in pay compared to blacks. Only one who's putting you down is yourself. Don't blame your inability to come up to level on others.

CheezInspector 6 months ago
@CheezInspector Black people must realise that business, schools and shops are not just gonna appear from nowhere. Blacks must take the initiative and start these institutions in their own community. The money that blacks waste in gospel churches could be used to be schools and open businesses, employing their own people.
ow7ful 4 months ago
@ow7ful, you know that's a good point too. I think both of us make reasonable points. Methodology around curly and "kinky" hair needs to be better researched and taught by general cosmetology institutions and ALSO the Black community needs to exercise more initiative and leadership when it comes to the (literal) business of Black hair.
CheezInspector 4 months ago
This is what happens when we befriend people and bring them into our families/communities, they end up sleeping in our beds and we end up on the streets...We should have never given these people entrance into our hair care business, why don't they go open a hair care business in the white areas? Because whitey will shut their asses down, that's why...We have got to start thinking with our heads and use our heart for the pumping of blood only...Everybody uses us as their stimulus, except us...

They dont have to be African American.I had a salon a few months ago and a hair shop opened a few blocks just like
freedombraids 1 year ago
@freedombraids this video and i went right into the shop introduced myself and welcomed them to the Area. I told them we should be at peace with eachother and i quote" If i have a busy day i will send some clients to you". People need to stop being so competetive and understand the shop owner next to you is the same as you, Just a person trying to make their way in this big way so instead of putting them down with hatred and Evilness, Support them and Wish them well.
freedombraids 1 year ago
this isn't about race it's about bussiness. these blacks are basically asking their competition to help them and if they don't they use the race card, again. if someone wants to open a store right next door yours they have the right to. the blacks are racists but nobody says anything.

I blame the black Churchs, politicians, etc. for this Freaking Mess !
moroccopink 1 year ago
He opened up there b/c this is America and he is free to do so. Same reason why CVS opens up across the street from Walgreens. He put capital at risk because he thinks he can run a successful business there despite an established competitor nearby. I think blacks often struggle because they feel entitled, which hurts their ability to compete.

You don't know the deeper problem.
Shimmy2009 2 years ago
Wrong. It is the consumers who are not buying the Black Manufacturers products..It's really simple math. If you have a better product that's cheaper? Go Figure? This is actually a NO BRAINER.. So? Again? How did this become a Racial thing involving the Korean Community when in reality it is Korean Individuals who saw an opportunity and took it..You make it sound like the K-Commmunity is being supported and run off of Black Hair Products and like this whole thing is a conspiracy..haha
bendyover 2 years ago
WHO SAYS IT HAS ANY THING TO DO WITH RACE? Like I said it is more of a financial issue than a racial one! An Yes they are going to go for the cheaper "LOW" grade product becuz its cheaper and they are brainwashed intto thinking that it good for their hair. An from what I have seen in my community they leech off the ppl! From black hair magzines in korean and the korean owned stores in the B-community. Wether you recognize it or not, koreans are benefiting form sucking BP dry!
Shimmy2009 2 years ago
"Who says it has anything to do with RACE?" The moment you mentioned "Black Community" and "Korean Community" that's when it became a Race thing..Just the hypocracy of some peoples logic amazes me..So? Next time when a White Supremist claims that Welfare should be taken away because it does not Benefit the White Community and it only benefits Blacks...You better Think twice before you call him a RACIST..OK? Remember..it's not a Racial thing its all about Finances...haha RIGHT!!
bendyover 2 years ago 4
You are blowing it out of proportion! I say korean and black to distinguish the two communitys. Just because I say korean and Black in the same sentence does not I am talking about races. When was the last time I wrote something degrading about koreans? Never! I was talking about the fanicial burden it is in my community but, your bias mine can't see that.
An by the way more whites are on welfare than black people. Do you think that those ppl in the trailer parks are rich?
Shimmy2009 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I swear people act like the black race is the only race living off of walfare.
Shimmy2009 2 years ago
if you watched the documentary you would see that it became racial when korean distributors would ask potential sellers if they were asian and then refuse to buy from them when the sellers stated they were black.
it became racial when a black man was told by a korean beauty shop owner, that they weren't going to let the niggers take over the beauty supply industry.
those are the kinds of things that people are rightfully upset about.
k0k0jamb0 2 years ago 5
Consider this...Korean distributor will sale many brands of hair to black owned stores but the most profitable/popular brand hair are only sold to Korean retailers making it harder for Black own stores to retain market shares. This violates several trade laws and is called a monolopy. I won't call it a racial thing, but the Korean community is very closed to other races unless your not in competition with them..let's call it nationalism
raynoma1 2 years ago
What you said is an excuse that many people use to start war and whatnot.
Don't start anything, if you want to have peace in the world, dont remake history.
Its just a matter of hair products and profit.
God Bless.
aero2525 2 years ago 3
i think many of you are missing an important point...its not about Koreans opening a business, its about the business practices of the retailers, and manufacturers. They are making it next to impossible for black manufacturers to get their products distributed, and wont sell black owned products in their stores.
lhistorymajorl 2 years ago
OH?
It comes down to only trying to support your own Group Or Race of people all for the wrong reasons..
bendyover 2 years ago
So its thats the case, then isnt it wrong for korean stores to only sell products from korean manufacturers? Wouldnt that be another instance of only supporting your own race for the wrong reasons?

Korean products are not of good quality and neither are they looking out for Black hair. Why do you think most girls walk around with their hair above their shoulders and boys hair are at their peak. It is because BW are put chemical and gunk in their girls hair! I don't think that any thing that goes against what your hairs naturally structure is good.
Shimmy2009 2 years ago

Shimmy2009 2 years ago 2
Get your facts together....The products are from CHINA not Korea. The Koreans are the middlemen.

PERIOD!!!
bendyover 2 years ago
No one is being racist! This is a big problem in the black community. If Blacks started opening up business in the Asain communities and raking away their money. I am pretty sure they will start raising a riot. The problem in the Black community is that people are ignorant to their neigborhood economy. BW are so dependent on korean beauty stores that they do not think about these issues. This is one of the reason I went natural because I was getting sick of not support my own ethnic beauty.
Shimmy2009 2 years ago 2
Yes..that would make Asians Racist if Blacks started to open up Successful businesses in Asian Communities and Asians started to Riot because they were Black..Matter of fact? I would be the FIRST one to stand up for Blacks and how the Asians are making this into a Racial thing..Since when? Was it wrong for Blacks to open up businesses in Asian Communities? Now? Can you think of this Vice Versa? It would just mean..Asians Need to GET OFF THERE ASSES And QUIT COMPLAINING AND WORK HARDER..PERIOD!!
bendyover 2 years ago
This problem is more financial than racial. The Black hair industry is a billion dollar business & who benefits the most from it? Not its their audience but, the Koreans. Its like a parasitic relationship one is harmed while the other takes. All that money is going out of the black community and into the korean community. We're is our profit? Isn't it our money going into their store?
Also you say we don't work hard I have one question? have you heard of BOBSA?
Shimmy2009 2 years ago
An for the record I have nothing against koreans. I just don't thing their present is good "financial" in the black community. If black hair suppliers didn't have them to compete with, their product would be cheaper. Due to their struggle to stay in business they have to raise their prices to make up for the lack of revenue. If alot more BP knew the long term benefits they would spend the extra dollars to support them but, most are ignorant.
Shimmy2009 2 years ago

BiggerTigerBoy 2 years ago
Yeah, this video is a GREAT example of black racism. Blacks whine and cry when they are mistreated by whites or Asians. But when it comes to Asians doing business in a black neighborhood, they resort to boycotting Asian businesses. This kind of anti-Asian racism is not only directed at Koreans. I have seen Chinese restaurants and Vietnamese nail salons get harrassed by these blacks. They come in, scream and harrass the Asian business owners, make racial slurs at them.
BiggerTigerBoy 2 years ago
Hm, I don't blame the Koreans but Blacks should definitely step up. Either stop emotionally investing so much in hair ... or shop in black-owned stores. And store owners should step up their game too. If you need to better your customer service, etc. to keep black customers then do it. Personally there's only one of each where I live and I always end up in going to regular drugstores. I've never felt the need to do every possible (damaging) thing to my hair.
BeautyU2U 2 years ago
People can say what they want to, but these people are smart. Black owned beauty supply stores (that I've experienced) do not have comparable selection of items or prices. I try to support them, but I'm not going to pay double for the sake of supporting black business. Also, customer service is important..you want to visit a store where someone is pleasant. Basing my comment on experience, not stereotypes

I agree with some of what you said, even if it had a racist undertone.

Koreans and others will forever profit off of Black womens' insecurity with their hair as long as they keep using their hair for weaves. I only saw about a handful of women wearing their NATURAL beautifully textured hair...and that to me is SAD.And people wonder why BW are considered so unattractive...they wear their insecurity right on top of their heads.
buttaluv10 3 years ago
not to sound unrealistic, but when i heard that 6 stores down the koreans opened up a store by this sista, i knew that soon after they'd say something had jumped off. i think this film sheds some light on, at least the original, that black people are just tired of sitting on it in this country which our fore-parents built. one month after the guy came from korea-opening up a salon. wow. it is unfair to allow this to go on. but this country "in the promisary note we trust"

Also,my friend's mother is south korean, and her daughter,my friend, is half black/half korean, and they both can do hair great. But her mother ACTUALLY went to school to learn how to do african american hair just so she could do her daughters hair,i'm not sure about the other Korean people..but I think most just want our money.
stefie116 3 years ago
Most Koreans want your money? Puleez! That kind of atittude and black racism is what makes me not support any crap that comes out of al sharpton or jesse jack-ass-son's mouth. All about "keeping the money in the black community." Look, if you don't have what it takes to open up a shop, don't have to take your black community's anger and hatred out on Asian businesses.
BiggerTigerBoy 2 years ago
um, im not racist, T_T lol,i said i THINK they just want our money because it seems that way, everytime I go into the store, no one can assist me,they only can sell me the product. My mom is a quarter okinawan and a quarter korean so i highly doubt i'm being racist, and im a kid, how could i open up a beauty supply store,T_Tdont get mad at me because I said what i thought, dont jump on me either,i'm only a friggin kid, shows how big you are
stefie116 2 years ago
I am so glad that someone finally adressed this..I am a 14 year old African American-Multicultured girl, and I kind of got tired of going to the beauty supply store and having to search for a black sales person to ask about products..I want someone to own the store who actually knows what I need and can assist me when I need help when it comes to my hair.
stefie116 3 years ago
I think if someone works hard to own their own business then no one should hold them back. No matter what they look like or where they're from
beckylikesmusic 3 years ago

MsBrei 3 years ago

The Korean guy got his business in a month and he is not even a citizen yet doesn't anyone find this strange. Yet how many Blacks and Americans who get turned down for business ideas. This is crazy why is suff like this still going on!
ladaylove 3 years ago
Read the book "Ethnic Solidarity for Economic Survival" by Pyong Gap Min. Korean business don't usually go to banks for loans. Insteand they either bring savings from Korea or they borrow from friends and family members for startup costs.
kmj2000 3 years ago
The very thing people fear blacks doing in this country they have absolutely no problem with any other ethnic group doing. Thank you for the book info!
MrHolipsism 3 years ago
That's the smart way to do business. I would rather have the money save than a loan to cover startup costs. I don't like being in anyones pocket.
rockruffnstuff 3 years ago
Why is that strange? He must have a social security # if he can open up a business. He has what you would call a permanent residency aka green card. Blacks or any Americans with ideas must have shitty credit or else they wouldn't be turned down for business. In the other hand Koreans have a system where you can borrow money through the Korean community and pay monthly without any interests.
marvelous211 2 years ago
Its true black women wont go to support BLACK OWNED business. In fact, most black people wont even support ANY FORM of black business.
-music is run by others of a different race
-beauty supplies are run by others of a different race
-clothing (for the most part) is RUN by others of a different race
And then they scratch their heads when their communities are not flourishing.

Stupid Black women spending money they don't really have on FAKE hair that looks a HOT ASS MESS!
mom2dave 3 years ago
Well, you don't find it ridiculous that many of thebusinesses primarily patronized by black people are owned by other races and ethnic groups? Essentially this means that your dollar is leaving the black community very quickly and not coming back to it. This part of the reason why black Americans are still one of the most economically disadvantaged groups.
PisceanBeautyy 3 years ago

Trell100 3 years ago
Yea right you black, making a comment like that. Stupid we did jump on the band wagon long before the koreans. Madam CJ Walker!!! A-hole, you ever heard of her. It's our hair, so what the hell you mean jump on the wagon. It our freaking wagon. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU BLACK, WHEN YOU KNOW YOU'RE KOREAN. F-YOU

Blacks will hire Korean's, but will Korean's hire blacks? Do the Koreans have social security #'s?
iraqidolphin 3 years ago 2
Hell no they won't hire Black people. I used to work with a Korean nurse who has been in this country less than 4 years. I had to orient her to the unit we were working on. I asked her what Koreans think about Black people. She said that in Korea they have the impression that we are "bad."
mom2dave 3 years ago
Blacks hiring Koreans? Since when? I don't know any Korean who work for blacks.
If blacks are hard working people Koreans would hire but they can't compare to Latinos or other Asians. Latinos who work for harder for less and less demanding in pay compared to blacks. Only one who's putting you down is yourself. Don't blame your inability to come up to level on others.
