  • at 1:55 what if your opponent does a turning back fist ?

  • See if this works for you. In the same situation, I would throw a left vertial elbow(Thah-mah-laa) to block the guy's right horizontal(diagonal) elbow. I can at least block it, if not hit the guy with mine. Then follow through with my own right downward elbow(wiang sawg). Alternatively, I can throw my right cross elbow('joop sawg' in Thai), which pushes the guy's right elbow down and makes space for my left elbow (wiang sawg) to hit his head.

  • TAB!

  • I haven't studied Muay Thai, but is a Muay Thai elbow strike common enough for it to be used as a primary strike against a fully erect opponent?

Maybe if someone's elbow strike is fast enough, but it seems more like a finishing move if your opponent is in a good position (for you to hit him that is).

What would seem more practical is a defensive move that can be executed if one has already been struck and is trying to avoid being knocked out...

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

  • @majorpun we dont throw elbows as much cus when u throw an elbow there is a big danger for recieving one so elbows are rare and yes used for finishers when u kno he wont be ready to strike back etc.

  • You are a cool mother fucker.. thanks for sharing your videos.

  • However, grappling shouldn't be avoided. I myself prefer traditional Jiu-Jitsu to BJJ. I really do like BJJ, but I also like learning more about takedowns and sweeps and not just how to attack from the guard or any other type of ground position.

  • @Ronnock then take judo

  • Like a Filipino 'gunting'. Nice

  • if you cup the back of the neck, doesn't it leave you open for 1-2-3 punch combo off your opponents back leg if they're quick enough, unless there's a knee in your plan?

  • when you block his elbow with your elbow in :41 what i would do is throw in an earthquake elbow with the left

  • Another great vid--LOVE the Tab shirt! Now THAT is old skool! -T.

  • I have a question for you Donnie. What do you do to condition your shins? I see a lot of stuff on-line, but what is the correct way to condition them? I don't want to end up old with fuck up legs or shins that cannot walk any more, and I don't want to break a shin while I fighting. I want YOUR suggestions!

  • that's a good question D0wn82.

  • That is a good question D0wn82. I do a number of small things, no tree kicking.... mostly working the heavy bag and kicking a heavy sand filled we have at the gym. There are some other things you can do at home, to desensitize the nerves. I'll put together a short video in the next week that covers shin conditioning, along with a routine for you guys.

  • @whotookdonnierules

dude im telling you your movements are literaly the same as the mano y mano of filipino martial arts. Have you ever done any fma?

  • @whotookdonnierules i see some muay thai matches where kicker breaks the shin witha crack and the defender doesnt always brace. why does that kind of fracture happen?

  • hey I want to know that to... please donnie, answer us! =)

  • fuck!!! it's realy cool! And rub an elbow with poison... ]:->

  • i quite like the "hand to the collar bone" technique. Seems practical enough. Plus you there's a number of things you can do from that position.. You could grab the guy into a clinch and knee him and you could also throw an elbow of your own. The "getting around the opponent" bit is probably not that easy to apply.. You'd have to see the elbow coming and be really extremely quick to do it, but perhaps it's something that can be done with practice.

  • I was looking arround to get an idea if how to block a WingTsun Elbow strike to the chest, which was shown to me by an friend during the weekend. Your techniques seem pretty practical. Cool stuff. Cheers!!

  • Imagine the shock on your friend's face when you preform a shoot to evade his elbow, take him to the ground hard enough to make him forget what year it is, and submit him with a cross-body arm bar.

You want to know how to counter him? Take him to the ground where he'll be flopping around like a fish out of water.

  • Imagine the shock of being kicked repeatedly in the ribs and head by the guy's friends while you're on the ground trying to apply an armbar at a house-party or a bar.

  • Exactly. Grappling becomes a huge liability on the street, especially against multiple opponents. What happens after the other guy taps out? Get up and shake hands? No, his buddies come out of nowhere and thump you... all at once.

  • @whotookdonnierules or the guy on the ground bites you, or pulls out a knife.

  • @erthdirt1 Imagine the shock of trying to throw punches while being dragged to the ground by the guy's friends...
