love it. learned a bit, I am in the market for a new filter and will now buy a much bigger one than I have in the past. 20 gallon tank will now get a 50 gallon filter! I have (in the past) always matched the filter size to the tank and have gone through filters fast.
@Coltons350z Telling someone to drop the water level in a turtle tank is like telling a scuba diver to empty his oxygen tank half way before diving in..... Turtles are natrual born swimmers and should have the biggest and highest water level possible. I have my 4 inch Red ear slider in 10 inches of water.
can the filter prevent the water from smelling cause my parent wont let me use the big aquarium for my turtles cause of the smell of the water and always having to clean it
@Tyran508 My aquarium doesnt smell at all unless you put your face obviously close to it will smell a bit...i use a filter and i also clean it once a week and i have never noticed the smell or neither has my mother ever said "woah that stinks!" if you just keep it clean it wont smell at all..!
I want to address all the stupid/uneducated comments posted:
Turtles will drown b/c theres too much water?? Turtles are natural born swimmers, they do not drown b/c the water is too deep, especially in that small tank.
These turtles mate on land?? Sorry, but the whole aquatic turtle mating process takes place in water.
"I have a baby alligator"?!?! Can't even tell you whats wrong with that statement.
And yes, he does have a basking dock, it is just being covered by the cardboard up top.
Actually. First off, do your research they CAN drown if there ISNT anything for it to Haul itself out of the water for SLEEP LOLOL its not a fish. Remember that. Its close to it but it isnt. and you can own an alligator. :D they sell them online so its NOT "stupid" If you have a pond for them that is XDD
LOL I like how you got cardboard all around the tank to keep your turtles from escaping........ but don't they get wet and soggy when its time for a water change?
The water should be a little bit shallower. They need an area to sit and soak up the light. And if they mate...they can't mate in the water. I have a baby alligator, and he loves having a basking area.
hey i have 2 res and their the size of a quater but when i fill their tank they swim like their having a panic attack or something plz reply on my page plz help
k people need to learn that turtles can not have to much water! My neighbor is a veternarian and has 14 turtles and has ben raising turtles for over 40 years water can be as deep as u want it as long as there is a place they can get all the way out of the water. Turtles will not drowned they can float when they need air.
WAY TRUE. what makes u think he drowned just because the turtle is dead and under water dose not mean he drowned. I got my turtle when he was an inch long and his water was 1.5ft and he is fine.
Turtles can float and swim. People can swim in water deeper than them a turtles can swim way better than people. Think about it in the wild turtles swim in lakes deeper than this tank.
you suck diana....as long as it is a water turtle meaning a red earred slider, yellow bellied slider, etc. a lot of water is best; they love to swim. So long as there is an easily accessible basking area.
please stop leave me alone my turtle has just passed away because of respriatory illness and the last thing i need is haters. if u dont like me or how i take care of my turtles, fine, but just seriously leave me alone and stop talking to me if ur gonna say shit to me. thank u and goodbye.
Actually the water level will have something to do with the respiratory infection. With a lower water level ammonia and poop will build up faster. That's probably what led to the RI if there wasn't adequate filtration.
Man those turtles need to be able to get out of the water to dry off. Cant have your tank full like that you will kill them. Try lowering the water level by about half. Then give them a rock or something to dry off on
there is a rock on the top if you cant see it and turtles love to swim so thats totally fine the basking spot is being covered by the white/beige thing
