NELSON RANGELL IS ONE OF THE FINEST "MUSICIANS" ON THE PLANET! PERIOD. HE HAS PERFORMED WITH THE COLORADO SYMPHONY, HE PLAYS WHAT YOU ALL CALL "STRAIGHT AHEAD" JAZZ LIKE NO OTHER, HE IS CONTEMPORARY AND HE IS AMAZING. SET A CHART IN FRONT OF HIM, HE'LL NAIL IT THE FIRST TIME. HE IS A MASTER ON SAX AND FLUTE. EXCEPTIONAL READER. SO MUCH SO THAT IT IS SAID HE CAN READ "FLY SHIT". SO BE CAREFUL ABOUT CRITICIZING ARTISTS BECAUSE OF YOUR OPINION. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO OPINION.
David Sanborn and Nelson Rangell...That's like trying to compare kiwi to mango, both are great fruits and have lots to offer in their own way. Sanborn comes from a different era and genre of Jazz, influenced my old school musicians and sitting in sessions, which creates a different style from different experiences.
I just enjoy their music and don't try to compare.
In my opinion, Nelson Rangell and David Sanborn are not even in the same class. I am a huge Sanborn fan......hands down Rangell is very commercial......which isn't to say that I do not like his sound. There is just no comparison between the two.
Going against my code not to argue which crew is better. I was a huge NR fan back in the day, but even I had to recognize he and Candy Dulger were just Sanborn clones. Don't get me wrong I own two of NR's CD's. Maybe he is a better talent than his music allows. I mean Cindy Blackman plays very limited licks for Lenny Kravitz. The stuff NR put out lacked the energy of Sanborn. Check out Sanborn's Rush Hour live with the late Hiram Bullock and Ricky Peterson on the Keys.
LMAO...You are actually implying that this cat is in the same realm as Sanborn...Give me a break!!! As for the "more commercial" comment...that's no measure of talent!!!
This song is "Turning Night Into Day". Discovered Nelson about a year ago. Brotha is simply AWESOME. He truly puts body and soul into his playing. "Grace" makes me stop, now that is true soul stopping music. Thank You Mr. Rangell!
Nelson has long been one of the best. Great performer. Great musician. Thanks for the post.
