People still remember and love Jacqui's artistry. She obviously loves the music, and still has many fans. It is unrealistic to expect a singer in her 60's to remain at the same height of her performance abilities as she was forty years ago. Ella Fitzgerald was one of the few who could pull it off. I say carry on Jacqui, you're still sounding great.
This is a traditional song covered by The Pentangle back in the late sixties. It was brought into the modern era by Jacqui's treatment at that time. People love her and respect her artistry, and as for "chops" she's one of the best female vocalists who ever made a recording. She's gotten older, and her powers have waned - that is natural. The incorporation of jazz instruments into her present combo suits her as a performer in the sunset of her career. Show a little respect, or go away.
Get your facts straight irelephant. Pentagle WAS a great band. Jacqui is a great IRISH singer, she never had the chops for JAZZ, you can thank Bert Jansch and John Redbourne for the fusion of Jazz in Pentagle. If you listen to all there older albums as I have done and still do, Jacqui has always song in her beautiful IRISH angelic voice and the band is JAZZIN out. This is not Pentagle with out the key members of this group period, so get over your self rightous self.
Nothing self righteous or factually inaccurate in my comment. The original Pentangle lineup including McShee, Jansch, and Renbourne has reunited in recent years, and therefore still exists. Having been a fan for years, I'm well aware of each member's respective contributions by genre. If you really loved Jacqui and the Pentangle's music and had it in your heart, you wouldn't be so hard nosed, critical, and judgmental. You must have other issues making you so angry.
I always wondered why Jacqui sat on that stool, and now at least i know why - I think that was just about every embarrassing wedding reception dance move in one song . "grave digging " and the "invisible eliptical cross trainer" to name but two!!
Actually its good to see her up and into the music. She seemed a bit left out on that bar stool. She has a great voice and the second song is wonderful - anyone know if its on an album?
Pentangle ain't Pentangle without at least, Bert Jansch and John Renbourne on guitars. This group of jazz musos do not come close. It is sad to hear this.
you're quite right... this has just broken the barrier of depressing. McShee could certainly pull off singing traditional English music, but this is just not in any good context.

These are great musician's, so it bother's me
to say this, Jacquie was never a good jazz
singer ever....With someone with stronger jazz
chops the trad-jazz fusion would work. Pentangle no longer exit's get over it..

Between the nine and ten minute mark I believe I saw the "spin some yarn", the "wack a mole" and "shoveling snow" dance moves.
All newbies but Jacquie and the drummer, right?
CastleStormer 4 years ago
All newbies except for Jacquie.
Aran Ahmun on drums, Alan Thompson (no relation) on Bass, Spencer Cozins on Keys. All from John Martyns band.
Not sure who our mate on wind is though.

This version does not come close to the original.. And she really must get back to keeping her hands on her lap..lol.. They are out of control..lol

They always flirted with jazz-trad fusion. I'm actually rather impressed with this arrangement

Cruel Sister, from the album of the same name, but this is definitely NOT Pentangle.!
