  • brisk song ♪♪

  • love this song, he makes it sound as if you are there in the audience , listening to him sing . long live Gilbert.

  • too bad the so called pop stars of today cant sing like old gilbert we have to put up with justin beebo--beeber whatever hes called, gilbert was and still is the best performer.

  • Little genius, we'll never see the like again

  • Makes me want to dance with my wife tonight !

  • nice lamp !

  • Why is it impossible to get this song on iTunes or Spotify?? Good memories from an early childhood.. Which album was it on?

  • @HEIHVHOL Matrimony was on Gilbert's first album 'Himself'. And on several Greatest Hits.

  • He grew his hair very quickly, by nov of 1972 it was down to his shoulders.

  • One of the greatest feel-good songs of all time. I defy anyone not to find this catchy. And his left-hand riff on the piano is just to die for.

  • In the summer of 1972/3 this song was a major hit in Holland, years later I bought the record and found it contained all kinds of lovely songs. Super entertainer.

  • What was Leo McKern doing at the end?

  • @lazevola That's not Leo McKern, it is Willem Duys. He was the host at the Grand Gala.

  • Great Artist/Performer..

  • cool

  • What a monumental talent; and I love the nostalgic image. Pop in those days could be such fun. But the important thing is the sheer genius quality of this man's songwriting. I had this song on the classic "Himself" album, on cassette.

  • SUPERB!!!.

  • rwillemm.......totally agree with you....gilbert was truly a great siger/songwriter.

  • @forestgumpaed gilbert IS truly a great siger/songwriter; listen to his latest beauty Gilbertville, released 31.01.2011.

  • How did this get 12 dislikes? Must have been the socks.

  • @lazevola How can anyone hate those socks?!

  • i am posting a video soon of Gilbert. Hope you will enjoy it. I like yours very much by the way

  • Il matrimonio, l'unione di due persone nel bene o nel male finché morte non li separa.............e vissero felici e contentiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • I matrimoni sono, non come si fanno, ma come riescono..

  • We need a page on Face book to promote this great artist..

  • @hammad313 There is a page since long.

  • oh how Queer.

  • @SIGNALSTAT Oh how queer!!! worra twat you are

  • Gilbert is very good and clever.

    Bestest Wishes,

  • ALANIZ6666 QUE CANCION TAN CHINGONA

  • a great performer.

  • I can't believe this is the same guy who sang the beautiful but sad "Alone Again Naturally." This is more upbeat. I like it.

  • WHAT A STAR

  • zigzag909 you are the nutter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hard to believe he's the rumoured dad of Michael Schumacher, but you can see similiarites in this vid..

  • @zigzag909 This is one of the most talented singer/songwriters of history!! Unfortunately he had to fight against his former manager (just to get the legal rights to his own songs!), which more or less made him a leper to the music industry.

  • too true zig zag

  • Is this Rik Mayal's Dad ?

  • i remember this at Willem Duys program in Holland. with his sox !! i was i guess five years old.

  • Nice i remeber it so well.. i was i guess about 5 years old. at a program of Willem Duys late night show in Holland Television. That Sox!

  • super

  • I'm going to see the Osmonds next Thursday (21st-July-2010) where they will be with Leo sayer - Les McKeown (lead singer of the Bay City Rollers) & David Essex @ Wembley Arean (U.K). I won the tickets, last Thursday. Doesn't look like Marie or Donny's going to be there. Wished I'd known about Gilberts concert at the Albert Hall, I'd love 2 see him as well. Him & Leo remind me a bit of each other, hope I get the chance 1 day, I love his music.

  • what is the gilbert song with the classic line`bagsie i in goal?

  • @1960unclemort The classic line is in We Will.

  • CASATE CONMIGO MARY ............

  • TE PROPONGO MATRIMONIO MARY!!!!

  • I love to listen to it ...

  • errrm

Why are the words "frozen peas" used to when referring to being late? Anyone?

  • @HughieDixon Maybe it was a cold day ! Gilbert has a great sense of humour - so don`t analyse his lyrics too much ! Check out my video response above - you`ll see one possibe explanation !!!!! lol

  • Excellent!

  • Look out for the forthcoming new album of Gilbert (titled: Gilbertville), due to be released in May 2010 and capturing a.o. the super song 'All They Wanted To Say" (which is already on YouTube).

  • ...superb, absolutely superb.

  • YOU HATTED THAT

  • brillo

  • super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nothin beats a good bit of Gilbert to get a party going!!! That is some hardcore shit :)

  • This performance is AWESOME.

What a tremendous songwriter, and performer.

  • Fantastic voice. Sounds like a Beatle song!

  • cool !!

  • great ha ha

  • great i love it

  • I love when he does a wee laugh at the start its so cute!

  • ALANIZ6666 QUE CANCION TAN CHNGONA

  • probaby one of my fav Gilbert songs, he had a unique style of playing that piano, just watch his left hand..pretty neat! a great songwriter too.

  • Gilbert will be performing in the Royal Albert Hall (London) next Monday, October 26!!! Definitely he'll do Matrimony!!! (As well as all his other classics from the early 70's till present)

  • When he gets up off the piano, who is playing the piano?

  • i don`t hear a piano - until he sits back down ! lol

  • As strange as it may sound, here in Venezuela (South America) it was a great hit aswell. Someone sang it in spanish, though.

  • This is my ringtone.

  • とても楽しかったです。

    LIKE A TROPIKALSONG

  • Real "lads on the end" stuff. Great tune

  • sweet!!

  • i forgot to mention matrimony was not one of those hits.

  • from 1970 to 1990 he had 16 hits in the uk,5 top 10 hits and two #1s.born raymond o sullivan (waterford)who was in bands ,having two songs recorded by the tremloes and therest is history.

  • heel mooi!!

  • @1968jeannette helemaal eens!!

  • why the hell wasnt this a hit at the time, very classy.featured lately on a corrie episode.

  • Actually it was a huge hit; at least it was in The Netherlands. It went all the way up till no. 4 in the Dutch charts in June 1972!!!

  • I heard this on the radio last friday and forgot all about it afterwards. Then yesterday I suddenly started humming the chorus, I couldn't recall what song it was and i couldn't stop! Then I started singing the lyrics and it was this one. I don't know Gilbert O'Sullivan but I think its a great musician if you can write songs which people get in their heads all of a sudden and start singing without wanting to but in the end turn a liking to the song.

  • he´s wonderful, the song is great + the dance routine is hilarious

  • What a prat

  • Doesn't he look like the dodgy one out of High School Musical, you know, the one who always wears a hat?

  • Ryan?

    Yeah, I can see that.

    ^_^,ll..

  • gilbert has a wonderful talent, and he seems to really be enjoying himself. artist today can really learn from artist like gilbert from the past. stop taking yourself so serious. besides artist from the past had real talent not like the waste land of today performers with the talentless rappers who do nothing but steal to sample. and the many group of the month so called rock artists. way to go gilbert i celebrate you and your

  • you're right. He is genuine and never tiring.. timeless

  • Has anybody any idea where this was recorded?

  • fantastic,,nuffin more check the guy out..i kind of forgetton the guy but was there somewhere and now im sooooooooooooo glad a chased him up and rediscovered a fantastic lovely guy!! just oozes fun vitality and yea makes me wanna go do wop dafty love him and gonna check out where he at!!! wot a cracker!! deffo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you get that tinx!!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • How refreshing to see a performer who's willing to openly enjoy himself. I can't imagine any of today's über-hip rockers or über-hard rappers ever being so swept away in the pure joy of the music that they'd take to skipping around the stage.

  • classic just love it .

  • Awesome:D His voice reminds me of Bert from Mary Poppins a little.

  • I think he sounds a lot like Paul McCartney

  • I think he looks very like Bert with that clothes! ^_^

  • Yees!!

  • You gotta love his socks!!

  • just like the record what a legend ,what happend to real musicians?

  • When music was music. :)

    Gilbert is a legend.

  • He almost didn't make it back ton his chair in time for the last chorus!

  • lov gilly osullivan........5 stars ;-)

  • Jos Brink at the end?

Nice song brilliantly sung live! Woho!

  • No, it's Willem Duys!!

  • Aha thanks ^^

  • gr8t song

  • on this video he looks like Rik Mayall from from the Young Ones

  • His socks are awesome! Great piano player. Love you Gilbert =] Or Uncle Ray haha

  • He is GREAT! Big fun- maker, but a bigger musicus!

  • Great song.Always singing it!

  • Wouldn't it be great if Gilbert re-released his songs....... I think he would have quite a few number one hits, his stuff is great, feel good songs, not like this depressing crap you get these days!

  • i jus luv this song puts me in gud form,

  • great song well sung by a great irishman.

  • i agree wel z

  • LOL !!! Great song , probably the worse dance routine ever..

  • Maybe he'd be better with a cordless mic. He nearly tripped. xD

  • I have always loved this song. He is fantastic.

  • Not much on the dance department, eh? lol

  • He's great. Very under-appreciated for sure.

  • Sure it doesnt have the computer add ins that the records of today have but you can sing along with it and for me at least, remembering when it was first released, is part of the fun. Would be great if these records where released again, there would be a big following

  • love 2 see this song back in the charts straight to no.1 even the kids these days would love it mine do

  • He was always better live!

  • I love the way it takes the audience so long to recognise it, and Gilbert can't help but laugh.

  • He always reacts to applause like that, check the other vids.

  • gilbert u fuckin rule. its me kevin. u still owe me a score. give us a ring on 085172000

  • very talented man just love his songs

  • my fav song :D

  • My 3yr old loves to dance to this when i put it on!

  • talent oozes from this remarkable performer love it

  • I fell in love with Gilbert in those years,

and now i still am ...secretly..*grin*

    Love his music!!

  • One of the best singers of all time. In 1987 having tried for the good part of a decade, I finally got his greatest hits C.D. I was so happy to get it after trying dozens of places in several countries including Australia, Japan, The U.S. and all over the U.K. Oh how times have changed with downloads etc. you can get any record you want now. I hear he will be performing at Glastonbury and has a new single out called "Never Say Die" it's great but not on YouTube yet as of 27th June 2008

  • Oh yeah, his new single is awesome!! He was on Steve Wright last week

  • Too Right... he's better than Mccartney frankly.

  • did gilbert play gasto?

i didn't see it on the telly coverage (which was very disappointing because leonard cohen wouldn't let the bbc film him, despite his set getting rave reviews from everyone on the planet)...

i would hope that if gilbert did a glasto set, it would get critical attention.

in my opinion, he never looked or sounded better than in these very early years. short hair and cheekbones are a winning combination.

  • Gilbert takes me back to my teenage Years.

Such a brilliant performer and truly talented.

  • It appears that Waterford's finest Gilbert could be re-discovered by a whole new generation this year because he is booked to play at Glastonbury and the Royal Albert Hall next year! A true talent and a very underrated Irish performer!

  • Britain HAD talent! all we have now is a bunch of KARAOKE SINGERS copying other peoples genius. Where are the Gilberts???

  • This is brilliant

On the Two Ronnies, however, I saw Alan Price and Georgie Fame perform Matrimony. They too were brilliant

Are they on You Tube performing Matrimony?

  • This video is an execllent example of just how talented Gilbert was & indeed STILL IS!!!

  • we had this song play us out of our wedding ceremony, i wonder how many people have?! it was so cool ;O) x

  • ...ye, brilliant.

  • so did u look at aslans wish u were here yet my friend!!! or else try aslan crazy world live at vicar street!

  • This man is one of the greatest living songwriters. It amazes me that he isn't even more famous. Brilliantly musically inventive and a virtuoso wordsmith.

  • Die man op het eind is Willem O Duys een toentertijd zeer bekend man in Nederland !!

  • He had a concert on my birthday last year and I even did NOT know about it.:-( I used to be so in love...back in 1971/72,73 being 14, and still that little flame is there, now that I see this again! thanks:-)

  • A real treat, thank you very much for posting it.

  • underated great gilbert!! jwh

  • Nice one, this song.

(We Will is, for me, nicest.

O´Sullivan is really a brilliant musical genius.

  • A brilliant musical genius!!!!

  • Great lyricist, his 'why oh why oh why' is quite beautiful.

  • An Irish Legend from beautiful Co.Waterford

  • How come when I watch videos on YouTube, some keep sticking ?

    That's VERY annoying

  • Funny dude!

And a great singer and songwriter, of course :o)

  • How old was Gilbert here ?

    Twelve ?? LOL

    He's sitting on a cushion !

  • He's brilliant!!

  • Well he was born in 1946 and the program was in 1972 so you figerd out what his age are!!!!

  • brilliant, indeed he still is!

  • superb talent, good to see Gilbert's at Glastonbury this year
