Behold, the Bridegroom comes at midnight, and blessed is the servant whom He shall find watching, but unworthy is the servant whom He shall find heedless. Beware, therefore, O my soul, do not be weighted down with sleep, lest you be given up to
death, and be shut out of the Kingdom. But rouse yourself crying: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O God! Through the Theotokos, have mercy on us.
Thx, so beautiful. Take me away to Russia. But how will I be able to do those lovely low notes. Incredible, can only be done by guys with Siberian heritage. Pleas come to South Africa and give performances.
I'd like to sing this with my advanced choir for Easter next year . . . but the sound of that basso profundo holding up the chords (I wonder if that is my favorite octavist; I think I recognize the voice of Vladimir Pasyukov) puts me at a loss -- we don't have a bass in our wildest dreams that could hit those notes repeatedly and resonantly! Too bad . . . this is some of the most beautiful Easter music I have ever heard.
Same thing here! I'm trying to persuade my high school's elite choir director to perform the "All-Night Vigil", but besides me and perhaps 1 or 2 other basses, we don't have enough bass 2s who can stomp out the Bb1. It's so incredibly frustrating! (Not to mention that a lot of our bass 2s are actually bass-baritones who have trouble even with singing an F2!) Oh, well...
I have two basses that I have caught singing things in E flat an octave down -- so they have the E flat 2, and the B flat 1 is probably there. But, as soon as I tell them what they aren't doing, they can't do it anymore . . .sigh.
Will the ready-to-go basso profondos in the U.S. please stand up . . . sigh.
@hymnodyhands The basso profondo is Vladimir Pasyukov: you can recognize his voice everywhere. Now that he passed away, the angels in heaven can rejoice: their choir has a marvellous bass.
@1donpizarro I know... I imagine that since before the world began there was an octave reserved amidst the music of the spheres; The angels marveled, down through eternity past, about why no one was allowed to sing it. But on June 20, 2011, the angels must have at last understood... and praised their Creator for His wisdom. For the bass created for the octave had arrived at last, and the harmony of Heaven became that much more harmonious and wonderful.
И музыка, и исполнение прекрасны. Слушаю ровно год и хотела бы слышать в последние минуты жизни.

It amazes me that religion can inspire such deeply moving music and such horrible actions.

I do agree... extraordinary: that peace, that slow change of harmony and incredible basses, the whole piece sung so natural.. wonderful !

it is heaven on earth.
now i understand why vladimir picked what he picked.
among the muslims, he saw no gladness, only sorrow.
among the jewish, he saw their loss of jerusalem.
in germany, he saw no beauty.
but in constantinople, they no longer knew if they were on heaven or on earth.
