  • Ohhhh Yes, singing sweeter than honey, the incomparable Miss Jo, 4-Ever. Wolfsky9

  • Beyond brilliant. Beyond. Why can we not have singers like this today?

  • Having just read all of the comments about Jo, no one has mentioned that Jo and Paul Weston, were married to one another until his untimely death. One comment about Amy Winehouse. She definitely was so influenced by Dinah Washington, that she even used Dinah's, arrangement for her recording of this song.

  • Amy Winehouse is channeling Dinah Washington- which is fine- but this is JO's SONG!

  • Sinatra, put her in the same level as Ella. Totally agree!!!!

  • @Tony7840 YES! She does sound like Ella, doesn't she?

  • Thanks for posting - It so so great to hear these artists and the classics they sing.. Since we have youtube we can compare versions... back to back. I love Ms Stafford and Miss Dinah Washington. Same song with each one...2 diamonds next to each other... different facets... different shapes... but both rich and exquisite.... please don't make me choose. Each of hem expressed not just a unique style but a very personal mode of expression.

What fun all of this is.

  • Wow! I honestly had never heard of Jo Stafford until a few minutes ago, but I will be doing a lot more research. What a voice! What a shame we don't hear any real music anymore.

  • I have to admit I do prefer Dinah Washington's version, just a tiny bit, but Jo's version is great, too. It's also just such an amazingly sexy song, with nothing crude or vulgar or explicit. "Graduation's almost here, my love." Indeed.

  • Absolute vocal perfection--as only Miss Jo & Mr Paul Weston could deliver. It simply cannot ever get better than this. How grateful I am everyday of my life, that I grew up in a home where the music of these 2 was always playing--well, if not, then it was Mr Glenn Miller, et al. What a legacy my parents left . Thank-you Dad & Mom, 4-Ever, from your #1 Son. Wolfsky9

  • Very sexy

  • Never heard Jo's version of this neat song...this is the best version!!!!..What a voice!!

  • In my opinion, this is her best, as well as "Autumn Leaves ". :)

  • I really like Jo Stafford but there must be thousands of film clips of her singing. Her company really controlled CD reissues is something like that stalling film clips of her singing? I especially remember a show with Ella and Jo singing together with an all star jazz band presented by Dave Garroway as a fond remembrance of his DJ days.

  • WHO IS THAT IN THE PIC AT 2.46, AS I DON'T KNOW HER OR HIM TOO WELL AS BY THE SOUNDS OF IT SHE IS REALLY GOOD AND BY THE WAY WHAT A GREAT DRESS EARLIER IN THE VIDEO AND NOW LOOK AT HOW SOME OF THE SINGERS DRESS, OH SORRY SINGERS, WHAT DO WE CALL THEM NOW , OH YES SHITE!!!

  • The purity of Jo's voice will NEVER be matched again by anyone. I recall hearing her on the radio before television invaded our homes. I could appreciate her voice even then and played the one record (78 rpm) until it only had one side. This is pure talent. No screaming, cursing, blasting electronic noise... just pure talent presented in an adult way. I wish I could have told her this in person.

  • Timeless, & the music of my youth--the Late-Great Miss Jo Stafford & Mr Paul Weston. It simply could not ever get better than this!~ Wolfsky9, Pushing 65 y/o

  • We are so lucky to have these classics memorialized for continued listening. Thanks for posting. Ah memories!

  • racy.

  • j'adore.....merci1

  • Va Va Va Voom! What verve, what power, how sexy can it get? Jo Stafford. My new vocalist obsession. Thanks for posting!

  • is trooper7h still around?

  • Thank you so much for posting this and others !! Love it !

  • Many, many versions have been made of this #, but none--absolutely none--can compare to Miss Jo's simply gorgeous vocal, & Paul Weston's flawless arrangement. THX so very, very much for putting this masterpiece on You Tube. Wolfsky9

  • I loved Jo Stafford's voice...had most of her records in the '50's. She and Peggy Lee have the most amazing voices. Ahhh...can't beat the music of yesterday!

  • @toyne38 I agree to that; and, it reminds me of all that I liked about the 50s: the movies, the stars that i saw on the screen, the musicals that had me singing all day long, Lucy, Gunsmoke, 77 Sunset Strip. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh to be young - and thinner- again.

  • Does anyone know why Jo's " You Belong To Me" is off of You Tube?? Any way it can be put back on?? Her entry just isn't comkplete without it. Wolfsky9

  • @Wolfsky9 Enter this is the youtube search "Jo Stafford - You Belong To Me - Her Best Version"

  • jo stafford, elegant, beautiful ty

  • Incredible singer. If you play in a group you realize how she's one-in-million. Sinatra was one too. Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick. Reba.

  • The quality of voice is so good. Wow, I am using my laptop. I wish I have her voice. She is so talented.

  • What superb control. She has such a smooth, supported sound and just the right amount of vibrato. She makes it sound so simple, but there's a lot going on there. She is one of the greats

  • Dirty, filthy tune. I like it.

  • This song always makes me think of my Dad, who loved it, & loved Jo. He always called her " The singers singer", & oh was he right. For you, Dad. Wolfsky9

  • Gorgoeus singer! i enjoyed this alot! thanks! Totally FAB Fifties!

  • So, for whatever reason, We are no longer allowed to hear Jo sing " You Belong To Me?? " I don't understand this, but all I can say is--what a loss. Does anyone know how this can be rectified? Who can possibly object in 2010?? You Tube needs Jo's wonderful voice, & her All-time classic. Wolfsky9

  • Jo Stafford was greatly admired for the purity of her voice and was considered the most versatile vocalist of the era. She was also viewed as a pioneer of modern

    musical parody.

  • the times they are a changin' our music today has lost such elegance. musicwas as much felt as listened to. ty for posting

  • Isn't she just wonderful. Do you have Every Day I love You just A Little Bit More in your collection? It was a big hit of hers in the 50's.Now only seems to be available on the Jo Stafford On Capitol remastered disc, released 2002 and unfortunately not available in New Zealand. I really enjoy your music, brings back many memories.

    Thank you, Rolld

  • The Singer's singer, Miss Jo. Wolfsky9

  • Amy Winehouse is actually a good singer, but no one can compare to the class act of Jo Stafford. Jo is one of the greatest female singers of all time

  • @johnstondr1 Dinah Washington

  • leaves all the others behind in diction phraseing and appeal ! go hide yourself wannabe amy

  • ...an absolute 10+, this song simply can't be improved on...

  • @jacbar39 Amen to that--singing as good as it will ever get. The Singer's Singer. Wolfsky9

  • who was the orchestra? so complimentary

  • Ahhhhh, this is great She is wonderful. The DeCastro sisters also had a hit with this. Thanks for the post,

    ken

  • How could this great song be sung any better! What a fantastic, super-gifted singer, Jo does not get the as much credit as she deserves, being that she is one of the best woman singers of alltime. Love her. 10,000 stars.

  • She's better than amy winehouse to.

  • Hi you get around,You like good singers.

  • I just never, ever tire of hearing this gorgeous voice; Jo, you were Awesome. Wolfsky9

  • Teacher's Pet starred Doris Day and Clark Gable and the title song was sung by Doris. This song is not in the movie.

  • This song, I think, was featured in the movie Teacher's Pet.

I forgot who the stars were, but I do remember memorizing this song when I was only age ten. Loved her voice.

  • Memories rekindled!. It is so refreshing to listen to this marvellous Jo Stafford rendition of a really great song.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Can you believe it? In the early fifty's I was in junior high school in Salt Lake City Utah-My High School BANNED this song---We in school never could understand why. ??

  • what you expect from a cult religion?

  • What a voice! Perfect!

  • Many of her songs were not that great; BUT, when she was on, there was no one better.

  • I loove it, this version is besides Sinatra´s one my fav.

THANKS vey much for it :-)!

  • Singing as good as it will ever get. Jo, you were just the best: the singer's singer; and Paul Weston's arrangement makes it all perfect. Wolfsky9

  • Wolfsky9,

Thank you for that very positive comment. :)

    My best wishes to you,

    trooper7h

  • @trooper7h I truly feel sorry for people who have not been introduced to this marvelous, beautiful singer, Jo Stafford. She was part of a musical sound era that I crave would be revisited.

  • Wolfsky9---You are sooooo right!

  • This is among my all time favorites, too bad we don't have songs and singers like this today.

  • lerebs,

Alas that is so very true!

The demise of the film musical, and Big Bands- which were always hothouses for quality song writers, musicians, and singers - resulted in such a loss.

There is still good popular talent around but compared to 60 years ago it is much thinner on the ground.

Thank you for your comment. :)

    Best wishes,

    trooper7h

  • @trooper7h You know, it's true--there ARE good vocalists today--many in fact. What we are so sadly missing are great vocal groups, & the master arrangers we had in the 40's, 50's & 60's. You know yourself, Jo's hits were so beautifully aranged, most by Her Husband Paul Weston--who knew how to get the most from Jo's voice. Recall if you will, what Nelson Riddle did with Linda Ronstadt in '83 &'85. 2 gorgeous albums of music, by a man who knew how to do it right. Wolfsky9

  • RubinL124.nothing sounds so sweet like jo stafford.

  • RubinL124,

    Thank you for your comment,

My apologies for the very late reply I have had some health problems since April that have restricted my youtube input.

    trooper7h

  • My Dad loved this song, & I can see him singing along with Jo, as if it were yesterday. Just a gorgeous vocal, the kind we'll not hear again. Jo, you were the best, & class was your middle name. Wolfsky9

  • Wolfsky9,

Thank you for that very heartfelt comment about this audio and the memories it evokes.

    My best wishes to you,

    trooper7h

  • To trooper7h, My heartfelt thanks to you for putting this wonderful music on You Tube. Jo & all of her great music take me back to my youth, & my parents, both of whom just considered her #1. My Dad once said about " Teach Me" : " boys [ my brother & i] , now that's class". I think you'll agree, that says it all. Wolfsky9

  • i love this song...thanks so much for sharing

  • dinovilles,

I get great pleasure out of sharing this beautiful song by one of my favourite singers - And when I answer any comment I get to hear it again.:)

    My best wishes to you,

    trooper7h

  • This is sheer magic!!! Keep them coming!.

A million thanks for posting this stunning rendition.
