Does the antibody test reliable if infection is well over windows period? Like 3 or 4 years after infection assuming no test were done during this period? Does the antibody produce decrease over time or reduce to zero?

Any time beyond six months, ordinary HIV tests are HIGHLY reliable; if you get an HIV- test result at least six months after your last possible exposure, you should be confident you're HIV-. Once your body has produced antibodies to HIV, they remain for the rest of your life (including after a 3-4 year interval), and the HIV test will detect them for life. Get tested and ask your doctor any questions.

This is Eric. There is no reason to bar people from immigrating because they are HIV+. Hepatitis C is also potentially fatal and sexually transmissible; why would you block HIV+ people and not Hep-C+ people? Why block either one? It won't cause transmission of HIV at bloods banks; donors are screened and all donated blood is tested for HIV. In the developed world, the risk of contracting HIV through a blood transfusion is now estimated to be EXTREMELY low. Not zero due to window period, but low.

There's reason to bar HIV+/Hep C+ people. Both kill. Blood banks aren't safe. In Italy, supposedly safe organs were HIV+ and got transplanted into unsuspecting victims. Later news reported organs had HIV and slipped through controls! Want to risk being next transplant victim? French Health Minister knowingly allowed HIV+ blood to be donated. Health Minister lied - said it was safe. Many died! I won't take chances!Ban HIV+/Hep C+ people from US! Remember Nushawn Williams? He infected 13 w/ HIV!

@abcdef6957: I really don't think there's any evidence HIV+ / Hep-C+ people are seeking to visit the United States in order to lie about their status and then donate their blood or organs. Therefore, you're proposing a discriminatory remedy to a nonexistent problem. If blood or organ banks aren't testing properly, the solution is for them to test properly, not to bar people from visiting the U.S.

40 million people got HIV already. 24 mil. are dead of AIDS now. "Sex" is main tranmission route by far! Quarantining HIV+ is only resort! Banning HIV+ & Hep C+ is mandatory. You're stereotyping HIV+/Hep-C+ people and make wild unsupported claims and generalizations. In reality, there's evidence that people who know that they are HIV+ are more likely to take measure to avoid infecting others than those who don't know their status. So HIV+ people, on average, do change their behavior to reduce the risk of transmission. Quarantining and discrimination would only deter people from getting tested and drive the disease underground, where it thrives on ignorance and fear.

@abcdef6957: (1) HIV+ don't NEED to stop having sex in order to stop the epidemic. If everyone (HIV+ or HIV-) simply used a condom every time for every sexual act, we'd end the epidemic in a single generation. (2) There is no "empirical evidence" that all HIV+ people will die of AIDS. That statement is provably wrong. As just one example, if an HIV+ person is hit by a car and dies, they're killed by the car accident, not by AIDS.

@abcdef6957: (1) You have no way of knowing whether a cure (or a management technique that largely eliminates symptoms and progression) will be found or not. (2) HIV/AIDS doesn't kill 10% of the global population. There are about 25M fatalities to date and 33M HIV+ out of a world population of 7B. (3) WHO/UNAIDS projections do NOT suggest that 10% of the world population is expected to contract HIV, or anything close to that. (4) In sum, you're overreacting due to incorrect beliefs.
