  • Was there two lead guitar combo hotter than Neal and Carlos at this point in time?

  • @6402680 In 71? Their only real competition would have been Andy Powell and Ted Turner of Wishbone Ash, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers, and Duane Allman and Eric Clapton.

  • @6402680 And of course Keith Richards and Mick Taylor of the Stones

  • @karlmoles65 Yes, all of those pairs are great, but it was something about these two......

  • @6402680 Oh certainly I agree. The only thing I have heard from all those I mentioned from the same era to come near this is the version of Sympathy For The Devil from Get Yer Ya Ya's Out.

  • I have always noticed a real sense of urgency in this song. I dont think this was a battle. I think it was a journey or the anticipation of going somewhere.

  • If Soul Sacrifice had Carlos battling a snake, then in this one he battles the hydra. AMAZING SONG!

  • @JPMusicman Great comment, thanks!

  • An incredible song from an amazing album.

The first 3 Santana albums are my favourite.

I gave my youngsters the Albums and they love them.

Santana must be good if you can get your kids to like the Parents music!!

  • @sammymint That's for sure

  • @sammymint

this album is INSANE!!! to reply to this comment, i am 18 and my dad was the one who first introduced me to santana at the tender age of 4 and i have never been so thankful for something before :D

  • el disco original se llama tabu

  • @AleAirbag El disco original qué?

  • WOW...

  • @greggorypeccary1 I know right!!!

  • I love Carlos, but what about Greg Rolie, why is he not given more credit?

  • @Goruthar Yeah good question.

  • Hell No! Nobody Does This Like carlos

Neal & Carlos Are Kickin' Ass

  • @brorapp999 You know it!

  • Hell No! Nobody Does This Like carlos

  • Rhythm section thunders like an out -of -control freight train rolling downhill!

  • @mqblues Well hell yeah it does!

  • 02.58 Eddy Wally? :-)

  • @Mathidal (lolwut)

  • @karlmoles65 The backing vocals sounds like they're singing "Eddy Wally", which is a Flemish singer. :-)

  • @Mathidal Oh ok, never noticed.

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

  • @dubeshot Could not agree more!

  • This would be great for a movie or tv show like breaking bad

  • @ingeniousblues Sure would

  • veeeeerrrrryyyyynnniiiccceeee

  • @novonovo85 Thanks!

  • nowdays music its garbage compare to this

  • Carlos knows how to Climax!

  • @richjard For sure!

  • COLD THAT MEXICAN BEAT TO COLD

  • TRANSLATION "Los cueros.... me llaman"

The rawhides (Bongo,Conga skins) ....are calling out to me

EVERYBODY!......EVERYBODY! "Vamonos Negra a bailar mi Huaguanco"

Lets go black girl....... to dance my Huaguanco (A latin dance)

Hat's off to Neaol Schon who was still a kid when he played on this album and blew everyone's mind.

  • @alcatras4 There is a double meaning for "cueros". Textually its "skins" in street slang its "whores" :-))

  • @bolijack Yeah, or like when they say " He / She's a "cuero" meaning they are HOT!!.... In this case though since there is a bongo/conga solo I associate it with the the skins on the percussive drums.......although who knows what the composer REALLY had in mind :-/

  • At the beginning I thought, slightly more than 14. 799 calls to this video would be a big offence for the great carlos and his brilliant Latino Rock, but looking at the rubbish and million calls to the videos produced by some "artists", I can only say, that the good music is only reserved for those who really know what good cultmusic is. Man, what an infintie Gutiarr. Viva Santana!!

  • Doesn't sound like the original album acoustic, much more raw - & I like it.

  • can somebody translate the lyrics? and as far as i;m concerned this is santana's peak moment.

  • @popstone1 I'd like to see a translation too. And I agree.

  • Probably my favourite piece of music ever, always gives me chills, awesome!

  • @Mattatministry Agreed!

  • Also one of the coolest album covers ever conceived

  • @ricorreze It is awfully rad

  • @ricorreze

Welcome to the world of Owsley quality acid! You can't get that level of quality anymore

  • This is the Santana Band at their (and Carlos') apex. The power and seamless synchronization of the 3 percussionists (Shrieve, Areas and Carabello) is amazing as are Carlos' and "2nd" guitarist Schon's fiery solo trade-offs at the end. Organist Rolie and bassist Brown are in support mode.

Listen to this track on headphones to also hear engineer Glen Kolotkin's brilliant mixing and placement of instruments to appreciate his contribution on making this the powerhouse song that it is.

  • @oa

    Headphones are a must!

    Amazing in all respects.

  • No doubt that as far as all the Santana albums this is definitely the favorite and most listened to. When this was released in the day...it ruled!!! This crossed over into every New York City neigborhood. White, black, latino all were jammin' to Santana "3".

  • @PANDOSING That's awesome! I have a hard time choosing between Santana III and Caravanserai for an overall favorite

  • @karlmoles65 Life's a bitch ain't it? lol

  • @ricorreze And then you die, yep.

  • most f'n rockin tune ever, sorry!

  • @54taqiyya It rules

  • And yes, it was just Carlos Santana playing the guitar!!

  • @artfelixjr Neal Schon as well

  • @artfelixjr no neil played the wah guitar

  • @54taqiyya They traded solos at the end part, common knowledge

  • saw them in concert in '73. brings a tear to my eye! you cannot imagine how it felt to hear this live! amazing!!!!

  • @artfelixjr Lucky lucky You

  • @artfelixjr saw them when caravanserai came out, awesome.

  • toussaint loverture fought with napoleon bonaparte in those islands

  • @MrButch1962 He fought AGAINST Napoleon and the French !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SOBERBIO...! SUBLIME...! Sin mas palabras...

  • Thanks for all the awesome comments!

  • One of the best Carlos Frikken Rocked !111 NO?

  • awesomes

  • @foxtrot77777 innit tho?

  • My favorite SANTANA Tune -- while driving my 74 455SD T/A -- AWESOME !!!!!.

  • @1Bandit455 S-Weet!

  • @karlmoles65 Thanks !!!! -Wish I would have kept that car but I'll get another SD455 T/A - The 74 SD455 T/A was supertuned to 450 hp !!!!.

  • Awesome song!

  • @castrology101 Thanks! I agree

  • i think this is Carlo's greatest moment, this sums up everything that was great about his original band.

can anybody translate the words for me?

  • @originaltbyrd I agree, it is his greatest moment

  • My brother would let me ride with him to go surfing in his olds98 back in the'70s, and he'd have Santana blasting away on an 8 track.I'd be holding on for dear life because he would be gettin' pumped for the surf session and just rippin' to the beach at warp speeds.Great song, great times.Thanx for the post K65!!

  • Your totally welcome!!

  • Best song on Santana's Best album !!

  • Thanks!

  • @ezridder my fav of all his

  • The live version in the Japanese LP is out of this world, a festival of rhythm. I only have it on vinyl, though...

  • Sounds awesome

  • Search for "Abraxaos" a great Santana 70's Tribute Band.

    ww w . abraxaos . com

  • I will, thanks!

  • So does anyone know what kind of rhythm this is exactly??

  • Tissuesan: The percussion rhythm is based on a Guaguanco Rumba beat. Best I can describe this guitar playing is that Neal can make the guitar scream but Carlos makes it cry. Great tune!

  • @tissuesan To me it sounds like Huaguanco/Fast Mambo with a light dose of Rock and a sprinkle of Fusion. Carlos has a chain of restaurants around the San Francisco Bay area Called MARIA MARIA and his food reflects his music. Traditional Mexican Cusine morphed with American, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Carribean influences that dance on your taste buds and delight your pallette.....very much like his music.

  • this is real Santana .David Brown,Micheal Carabello Carlos what about them

  • Agreed!

  • The very best example of Carlos Santana and Neal Schon in a Solo Battle Royal and it was even better live....they stretced it out to about 8 minutes...good stuff

  • I'd give just about anything to have seen it live.

  • They fucking don't make em' like this anymore do they boys...

  • Oh hell no

  • @rmg13021 ni siquiera por menos.........

es lo mejor..nobody can write em anymore

    regards..you know music

  • @rmg13021 You got that right sucka!!

  • Santana IIIis a great cd,taboo,no one to depend on,batuka,et

  • Yea, I agree

  • As it's told, Neal and Carlos kept overdubbing to try and outdo each other but according to recording engineer Glen Kolotkin, Neal inadvertently erased over one of his better contributions.

Have always liked the subtle wha effect Neal always used to get that perfect tone. Knew when to open and "mute" the pedal perfectly! And you gotta' love that guitar scream he does at 5:03!

  • You are so not kidding!

  • The greatest guitar duel of all time.

  • What can I say but that I totally agree!

  • Its my favourite Santana album together with Caravanserai, Welcome and Borboletta But seriously folks (hey Joe!) Carlos and Neal: that's how to play guitar.

  • Same here really, it's truly some astounding work, Imo. Thanks for the comment!

  • I learned to play guitar from this album. This and Caravanserai are my 2 favs guitar albums. Together with Mahavishnu, Jimi, and Ingwies first.

  • Caravanserai is fannnntastic too!

  • what an awesome track...that guitar solo at the end is so good you wished you heard it for the first time.

  • You ain't kidding

  • It's not the same with the sound in mono. Y did you upload in mono?

  • I didn't upload it in mono. Must be a Youtube screwup

  • Webekah Hoid dat too!

  • Ah hoid dat!
